This camera is fine for 600-700 bucks. But I agree, it’s highway robbery at 1000. Dji osmo 3 is superior in several respects and costs only 520 bucks including fast wide lens.
Years ago, when my son needed a good camera for school and personal video projects and I was in between DSLR cameras, waiting for an affordable 4K/60p solution, we settled for the then newly released A6500. I knew its limits and that I wouldn’t get happy with it, but I didn’t know how bad this thing is with recording video longer than 20 minutes. Practically absolutely useless for me. By now, I’ve been able to make myself very happy with an A7M4 and an A7R5 while the A6500 gets zero use. I am wondering now if it would be a very meaningful upgrade (especially in the video department) to sell the A6500 and get the ZV-E10 II as a dedicated backup camera and third option for tripod based video recordings of events? Is there anything at all that I would be missing from the A6500? Thanks for the first look video, very well done as always, guys!!
How is recording in 4k? The ZV-E10 I have will basically overheat after something like 25-30 minutes unless you pop the battery door and use an external power bank.
@@funtaril Will have to see how the ZVE 10 II does on overheating. In reality, judging by the precedessor, i would guess not much difference in record times. Even though i would say that Lumix shot themselves in the foot publizing recording limits and enforcing them instead of like Sony just ignoring the topic.
Sony A6100 user here. I see no major reason to upgrade other than 10 bit and Cinetone. I like having an EVF for video even though the 6100's EVF isn't a great example. I was waiting to see what this camera was like, but I think I'll keep the 6100 for the great work horse it is and pick up an old BlackMagic OG to scratch that colour grading itch. Thanks to Chris and Jordan for the first look though, I've been curious about this expected release for ages now.
The ZV line has never been really an upgrade for the a6000s line, generally within the a6000 line is the next upgrade, like an a6700 which is a great camera with all the features
I think realistically, anyone looking into the zv-e10 should be steered towards the fuji x-s10. While the kit lens cost a bit more, it has way more features, besides 4k60
i dont think sony realises how much difference a good screen can make. One of the main reasons canon cameras “feel” nicer is because their screens make the images look way better
Beginner question: Does Eye AF work with lenses that are not Sony? Is Eye AF just as good and precise with lenses from Sirui, Tamron, etc.? Is there anything specific to look for when purchasing a lens to ensure it is 100% compatible with Sony's Eye AF?
You can’t be serious. Camera Conspiracies is gonna rip this to shreds. In 2024 a “vlogging” camera with no IBIS, no mechanical shutter, crop in 4K60, ridiculous crop in software stabilisation, measly 1MP LCD… c’mon guys 😂
I’ve asked myself the same question... How is this considered a good recommendation when the S9 is odd and confusing? The screen quality is poor, there’s no EVF, no mechanical shutter, a smaller sensor, and no IBIS. On top of that, Sony has an awful track record with firmware updates. This camera leaves you no room for growth... If I had chosen this camera instead of the S9 based on a review, I'd be pissed off. 😂
Good review. Overall I'm disappointed, because I was expecting it to retain the 4k120 to remain competitive with phones, but have lack of IBIS be the gimp that drives people to the A6700. Between artificially removing the 4k120 and removing the shutter so it's useless as a photo camera...yeah. No. Not for 1k when a used S5II is 1200 and has a shutter. And especially not with the weight gain. The ZV-E10 was the smallest and lightest APS-C body you could get from Sony since the NEX lineup, with the kit lens it's doable in a pocket. This gained .3" thickness and an ounce of weight. That's a big jump. I really hope they update the ZV-1 so people with "real" cameras can have something nicer than a phone that's still convenient to carry everywhere, because clearly they don't want the E10 to fill that role anymore.

Dear PetaPixel Team, I greatly value the work you do in covering the latest developments in camera technology. I’m reaching out with a request to encourage camera manufacturers to advance their stabilization systems beyond the standards established in 2017. For example, the Sony ZV-E10 Mark II features improved electronic stabilization, but it still doesn’t match the effectiveness of in-body image stabilization (IBIS) systems like those in the Panasonic GH5 from that time. In practice, electronic stabilization often falls short, being about 60-70% less effective compared to IBIS, which becomes evident in more dynamic shooting scenarios. As a prominent voice in the industry, your influence can help drive both consumer expectations and manufacturer innovations. It would be incredible to see future camera models push the envelope with stabilization technologies that far exceed the performance of those from 2017. Thank you for considering this suggestion and for your ongoing efforts to keep us informed about the latest in camera gear. Best regards, Pup

This camera is definition of market segmentation and cripple hammer. Sony, tell us - how many of these cameras do you sell and how much do you earn on each one?
This new camera brings great savings; don't buy it and save 1,000 USD. After Fuji X1000VI, Leica D-lux and Lumix S9, we thought that the lack of innovative ideas was the norm, but we were wrong. Now Sony raised the bar to its limit by not listening to the user needs and bringing a "new" camera without mechanical shutter, dark display, no IBIS, no 4k120 and no EVF. And the cherry on the top: more expensive than its predecessor and with weak electronic stabilizing solution that demands high cropping. Where can I buy one?

Sony really likes to keep fairly basic spec upgrades back to bring out later. They did it with the crappy evf in the original A7 c, I sent mine back, annoying.
I've been a bit of a eager baby for the next gen ten. The first absolutely had it's place but with some serious niggles and flaws. I hope Sony has done better with this one. The pool of parts and technologies they have to draw from for this version is a lot better than the pool they used to make the first one. Also sort of keen to see how the second gen kit performs. OSS in lens has largely been abandoned and I don't like that at all.
I just noticed the comment section is so accommodating with Sony overheating but smashed the Lumix S9 for placing recording limits to prevent overheating. Hilarious. Go from ZV-E10 M2 to the FX30 for $800 more for no overheating or go from the S9 to the S5 II for $200 more for no overheating. We really are tribal Camera snobs. 😀

Hmm. The ideal vlogging lens for the S9, the Sigma 17mm f/4, is quite light and compact, and adds a much-needed aperture ring. Versus the Sony 11mm f/1.8 the size and weight are a wash. You do get a faster lens with the Sony, but lose stabilization. Soon Panasonic will also release the 18-40mm collapsible zoom, which is going to put a lot of pressure onto these APS vlog setups.

No IBIS. huge crop...no EVF....overheats...... Sponsorship must have paid well.
it's 1000$, overheating is reasonable, huge crop in what regard, because 4k60 1.1x crop in this price range is really good...

@@lfcruzsierra Totally agree! 👍
No ibis what the…. Like removing the mech shutter is bad enough lol

Dear PetaPixel Team,
I greatly value the work you do in covering the latest developments in camera technology.
Best regards,
Pup

This new camera brings great savings; don't buy it and save 1,000 USD. After Fuji X1000VI, Leica D-lux and Lumix S9, we thought that the lack of innovative ideas was the norm, but we were wrong. Now Sony raised the bar to its limit by not listening to the user needs and bringing a "new" camera without mechanical shutter, dark display, no IBIS, no 4k120 and no EVF. Also sort of keen to see how the second gen kit performs. OSS in lens has largely been abandoned and I don't like that at all.
I just noticed the comment section is so accommodating with Sony overheating but smashed the Lumix S9 for placing recording limits to prevent overheating. Hilarious. FYI: this camera records gyroscopic data so u can stabilize your footages with gyroflow which is a free, open-sourced software
yeah, that's not always a good alternative...you need to mess with the shutter for optimal use and some apps take a while to process it.
@@lfcruzsierra this camera literally has no ibis unit inside theres no alternative you might as well use things that the manufacturer provided for its consumers.
