Good analysis Tim and excellent knowledge of the NZ rugby scene. In stark contrast to Big Jim and Dan Biggar recently who said NZ were fractured and fraying. Pretty weird call from them for a team who probably should have won the WC final and have 85% of that squad return.
Sorry don't agree. Darry should be there not as cover. Finau and Blackadder are to short for international 6s and would get out jumped by most 6s let alone international locks. Blackadder is a international 7 at best. Our lineout will be under pressure as current locks and backrows being short by international standards
Finally, someone that understands the captaincy. Let Ardie be the player he is and play his rugby without the pressure of being a captain. Barrett being the captain may make him chill out a bit with the discipline.
As a South African I would love Razor to take the All Blacks up a 1 % or two ( They were never bad ). Love when Springboks play agianst a Great All Black team, it is sometimes hearth breaking, but always nice.
er,under Foster, the AB's were at times diabolical. Slow baby steps with this side,it will take time to bed in new players and game plan ( the latter being something we never had under fluster).
Hoskin Sotutu & Ricky Riccatelli were unlucky not to be in the AB squad. Surprised that Ethan Blackadder and George Bell made it, however being from the Crusaders I shouldn't be too surprised with Razor coaching them last year. Wallace Sititi (son of Manu Samoa Semo Sititi) definitely a bolter but has a bright future! Locking stocks are quite thin. Sam Darry along with George Bower, Ruben Love and David Havili been called into the squad in limited capacity.
Bell just in for the ride. It’s Samasoni all day long if he’s fit. Blackadder can cover 6 7 and 8. He has a huge engine and is a mongrel. But very injury prone.
Yeah Cruz fan here. Not convinced on Bell. He's been getting good press for a season or two, but the cruz lineout for the first half of this season says something very different
@@ChrisBrown-or8ky Also a Saders die hard but our line out problems belong to our loss of Whitelock retiring and Barrett being injured, we took less chances on expansive lineout plays when Taylor came back due to his experience but Bell will be immense when Taylor's day is done (although Im a big Samisoni fan) Unsure why anyone would be surprised Blackadder gets picked as he's a starter in any international team if healthy and he will carve destructively and accurately until he breaks (hopefully he stays healthy)
Good job mate well done. The ABs have huge men in the front row who are freakishly atheletic. Sitit is next level. Hoskins is a bit of a head scratcher. Darry is back lick in the extended swuad. Hes young and big at 6.8 and lots of potential. I think blackadder and jacobson just go ibto those dark places putting their bodies on the line. Its going to be a great series. Looking forward to England turning up with their fans.
You need to consider some players who aren;’t available. George Bell is an eye to the future, noting that Taukeiaho would replace him if fit. They can’t pick Fabien Holland - a pretty good young lock emerging from the Highlanders. Will Jordan and Cam Roigaurd would also come in if fit too. If you consider some of these inclusions later in the year, then it puts some context on some of the selections now.
The squad being named has given it more of a real feeling. It's on. England are going to have to be 110% to win a test in nz with a squad like that. Look forward to it.
Re no Sotutu - Robertson made the pointed comment that loose forwards have to play on both sides of the ball. Can infer that although a weapon on attack, the workrate on d and work off the ball of Sotutu wasn't consistent enough. Seems like Razor likes the players who had his sort of work rate when he was running around, and effort on d speaks to that. Just sayin'.
But a good coach would be able to fix that. Worked for the blues this year with their loose mix. If you look at the stats Hoskins made lots of tackles, 21 turnovers and a million line outs. The other loosies (savea excepted) offer very little going forward. Sititi can carry hard and will grow over the next few seasons but so can others that missed like Iose.
I think what we’re missing (as always) is the conversation the coach has had with the players who have missed out. Is it “you need to work on this to be in contention” or “we’re picking him for this series to get him into camp and see what he’s like, but we’re going to pick you for the rugby championship.” I think there’s a bit of both there to be honest. Very clearly a vulnerable side weakened by retirement and losses to playing overseas… yes that’s sarcasm
Excellent points about Scott Barrett v Ardie as Captain. I think Razor is aware of Barrett's propensity for doing dumb stuff in a ruck and must be confident that he can turn him around. Everyone talks about "discipline" but I think these ABs will be talking about "accuracy" instead. It brings a slightly different mindset ... don't hold back, go hard but do it right. I noticed when Clayton MacMillan was talking about penalties after the semi against the Canes. He said it was about accuracy, not discipline... The ABs coaches have been talking to Super Rugby coaches all season about players in the mix for the ABs and what they're looking for. I think this squad will be better prepared than recent AB teams who have been scratchy in the first test of the season.
Every ABs coach has a blind spot for a worthy player: Laurie Mains and Duane Monkley; John Hart and any Waikato back; Alex Wylie and Buck Shelford; it’s often based around how that player does not fit the game plan of the bulk of players in the ABs from one province. There are 6 forwards in the squad from a Crusaders side that was pants this season…that’s revealing of the game plan that is likely. No one expects any other major national to introduce a major new gameplan. We expect them to play to their strengths. The ABs strength has always been mobility and ball skills in the forwards, and width and support play in the backs. That won’t change. Unless other countries have an absolute blinder with physical dominance or luck with a ref, this has always been enough to secure a 70+% win rate. If England can bring unrelenting physicality upfront and keeping the ball on the ground and close in hand, they have a chance. If they don’t close down the AB forwards and allow any space they will get cut to ribbons.
20 plus points on England. Speed out wide, forwards are mobile and havve a strong scrum, loosies are mobile , back line is solid and trying scoring wingers
Feel for Riccitelli, Lakai and Love. Sotutu was rather quiet in the final and may have been his undoing. Sititi was a stand out in a losing side and proved himself in 3 big games which may have got him over the line. Puzzled about Perofeta over Love though??
I agree, Love would've been a better choice than Perofeta. That's no slight on Perofeta either, he is quality. It's about recognizing natural talent for me. Ruben has a special quality that needs to be nurtured at the highest level
@@rjmn1 Yeah I was aware of that when I commented, I was referring to who should be in the 32 man squad. That is the first choice squad, hence Perofeta join to train with them, not Love. But thank you anyway. While we're at it - I don't see David Havili as an All Black for the foreseeable future, unless his form improves markedly. He is in as squad cover, which wouldn't be my pick
Upsets me to see comments not support Scott. I understand Ardie should be the captain but he is still apart of the leadership team. Was chosen for a reason, backing them all the way.
For me a no brainer as captain a good choice including Ardie and Jordie as vice people think he's a liability but the captaincy requires managerial skill happy days
Not sure about our locks as for Sotutu it maybe something to do with his attitude or conduct or maybe he doesn't suit the style Razor wants.Razor has definitely gone for size according to Google Tosi is 6"5 and 154kgs and Williams is 6"5 and 144kgs that's a huge front row
Great team on balance - Ecstatic that Sititi was named, what an exciting prospect. Having just heard Pasilio Tosi speak, wow, I predict great things for him and should thrive under the Robertson / Ryan tutelage. I see Perofeta claiming the FB spot, he's tall, great feet, solid boot and should hold that role down until Jordan's back fit. Hope Procter can continue his SR form, he's been simmering nicely for a few seasons and would love to see him cement that spot, we've been lacking a constant line breaker in mid-field and in that repect offers more than a Jordie or a Reiko in my book. Looking at the forwards, Robertson is maybe seeking a running game with big mobile ball handlers integral to that style. Is this the master plan to get the rest of the Rugby World quaking in their boots? I dearly hope so. Lets go and good luck to Razor & the boys !!!
I’m gutted for Sotutu. He deserved a spot. Interested to see Robinson’s game plan. I can’t see it being much different to how he coached at the Crusaders. It’s all effort based. He’s a great man manager.
I think people forget that this side has been chosen just for England. Just have to trust Razor. I have questioned Razor before and he had always provided me wrong.
Great run down as usual Tim, I always watch super rugby and NZ somehow being vulnerable due to transition as speculated by some of the UK press is just wishful thinking I’m afraid, I don’t think England will be within 15 points of NZ in either game. I hope to be proved wrong though
I think Razor was clever not to bring in to many new faces. A new coach with a bunch of new faces would have been risky. One thing which surprised me is the fact that he only went for three locks. They need to find replacments for Whitelock and Retallic. Why select so many, props, backrowers, outside backs and centres but only three locks? If Scott should get injured they are going to struggle. Teams will definitely attack the New Zealand lineout. Teams with good defensive jumpers will be in with a chance of taking New Zealand ball.
@@icefarrow7959 Could be. Personally I think five props will be anough for England and one less lossie also won't make a big difference. He needs to test as many locks as he can. I think it is probably the position where they have the least depth. If they can build some depth there it will make them much stronger.
Its gonna be a hell of a tour. England looked soooo fit and smart against Japan. NZ squad looks as exciting as ever. Can’t wait to see the variations Razor brings to an already amazing team.
There has been much hand wringing from Blues fans over the omission of Sotutu, and John Kirwin has been leading the cheer team for Sotutu has been very vocal, but I have read that there are concerns over his work rate off the ball, and that may be the reason he has been overlooked. In contrast Blackadder is renowned for always putting in a full shift at the coalface.
I think in terms of physicality with ball carrying and tackling Sititi is exceptional and has the edge over Sotutu. I terms of an all-around game and talent wise Sotutu is unmatched as a number 8. It seems to me that the coaches want to have a massive forward pack and like you said want to smash people. I personally am happy with the selection of Sititi over Sotutu although I think I might be the only one in the country who is happy about it as I love how hard Sititi runs and hits people. I personally would have gone for Peter Lakai instead of Ethan Blackadder as Blackadder has not played enough for me coming back from injury but I understand that they don't want to put two young loosies in with no test experience. Time will come for Peter Lakai though that man is awesome.
Sotutu never smiles or shares anyone else’s happiness, he might have had some good assists, but he doesn’t seem like a team player… he probably didn’t make it more because of the cultural fit rather than playing skills.
@@Mumbo_Jumbo_Kiwi.1nah not great on defence and doesn't take constructive criticism. But he's been a menace on attack this year with the hard yards too
I can only hope that Mo'unga returns from Japan after two years and that he is pushed by some of the young guns for the 10 jersey by players that haven't been called on for this squad. Fergus Burke looked good for the Barbarians recently.
Core is from the word cup team because despite being accused of being ‘the worst All Black team ever, and even brining their ’own wooden spoon’, they just lost the World Cup final.
My thoughts as a ABs supporter is. Captaincy is overrated by the media and public. The ABs have always had a leadership group and Savea is a senior in that group. Sotutu has always occupied the same regions as Savea. Savea is definitely the better player and we need to compliment him. Sititi is a propect pick and brings the prototype no.8 size and skill that we will need for the future and can play with Ardie without diminishing each others skill set. Locks are a bit thin in terms of but Darry is in the greater squad and lord has AB experience. In terms of future at fullback i think we don't an answer but for the England tests we don't need inexperienced Fullbacks. I'd like to see Ratima learn from TJ but also have Finlay start. Lakai is surely a Glassadder replacement if he injured😂😂😂. Iose wasn't picked cause Sititi played crazy in the 2nd half of super rugby and won his match up in their match up. Happy for Tosi. Great personality. My favourite Samipeni Finau made it, he's a grub and i love him for it. Bell made it cause he's a 24 year old prospect. He very well might be the backup to taukiaho come next WC barring injury to codie taylor. Asafo is awesome. Happy he's healthy.
Sotutu has had great super rugby seasons before but then failed to step up to the international level in previous years which probably went against him in favour of someone younger and new.
Razor knows what he gets from Blackadder, injuries aside hes a great player.. I think Sotutu didnt answer a call up phone call last year from Jase Ryan (or return the call), so could be a personality issue maybe
@@GBH001might show Hoskins is that much of a narcissist however. Hoskins was fantastic with the hard yards on attack this year unlike previous years but still not there yet on defence compared tk the other loosies.
Pretty exciting props, really big and strong, with good skills. Bit light on the locks. The loosies are very exciting Ardie will be back at 7. Jacobsen or Sititi at 8. Blackadder could be anything. 9s are pretty good, midfield very good, back three are great, exciting on form. Bit tough on Sotutu, but he hangs off and looks for the plums.
It's interesting that after a comprehensive win based on set piece, great defence and structure from the Blues he hasn't rewarded them more. Too many names I am unfamiliar with and haven't a clue what the best way to play them is. I'm really enjoying England embracing more attacking rugby but if they have a game like v Scotland where nothing sticks ABs will take them to bits.
!st XV, I think: De Groot, Taylor, Lomax, Barrett, Tuipolutu, Finau, Papali’i, Savea, Christie, MacKenzie, Clarke, Barrett, Ioane, Telea, Barrett. Although some hot competition in the squad in some positions and the bench will be interesting too.
I really hope nr2 is Amua. He had a good season time to show that we believe in him and give him the start of the go. Also england knows cody and what he brings surprise them with n power runner
Hoskins blasted at big packs this year very well. I haven't thought he deserved it in previous years but this year he did the hard yards well. The issue is still his defence compared to the others and maybe not taking constructive criticism well
Razor had mentioned in an interview they've got Sam Darry in camp to back up the lock position. In my own wild speculation, I suspect Robertson wants Sututu to play with the Maori, and get the bulk of the playing time. Same could be said for Riccitelli, I suspect he'll be the starting hooker for them. Savea will undoubtedly be getting the lion's share of game time in the July series, and with Jacobson, Finau, Blackadder and even Papalii all able to cover #8 admirably, I suspect Sititi will be holding a tackle bag more than getting game time. Not that he doesn't deserve to be there, but I suspect it's more to learn the proverbial ropes than to get much playing time.
The English media are playing up your chances but I can’t see anything other than drubbings. It’s a good AB squad with a talismanic coach. It starts up front and the AB props look more likely.
English media are the bane of our team and proper fans.. reality is we're heading towards being a decent team but a way to go yet.. I'd be happy to give a good display and show well, I think you'll be to fast for us...
@@robslade9281You’re a chance in first test. ABs are woeful starters and have been for years. But I think you’re right and we’ll have too much pace. The games in Dunedin but under the roof. So fast and dry.

It looks like a team shaped to attack in any area (incl the forwards) but built more off a defensive posture. Crusaders 2.0 but with more attacking sting in the fwds (Aumea, tosi, savea, siti) This is why I cant believe Lakai isnt in the squad? He suits the game plan. Maybe his defence? who knows?
But don't forget they haven't got much time together before the tests and it will take awhile for them to start getting comfortable so I wouldn't say they are favorites just yet.from a kiwi in Welly NZ
ABs have often been sketchy in the first test of the season. I'm sure Razor has been thinking about this. Players that weren't in the final have been in camp already.
The loose forward selections for the first game will be interesting. I'd like to see the trio of Finau, Blackadder and Savea start in numerical order with Jacobsen, Papali'i and Satiti coming off the bench. You have to feel for Sotutu, but he doesn't connect with Jason Shaw and his workrate off the ball is suspect. All I can say is thank f Cane wasn't selected, for all his tackling, he was a walking red card.
England are going to have to find a the following: A decent 7 A decent pair of props A decent 9 A centre A wing And the courage to pick Dan as a starter
I really enjoyed the forwards lineup and am looking forward to seeing what they will do against England. I will add that I attended a talk by Razor about a year ago in Christchurch, and what he said about Blackadder was that he was the perfect player for the system he uses. I wonder if Sotutu doesn’t fit that system, which is why he has been left out (speculation). Side note: Ricky Riccitelli should not be in the squad. His lineout throws and temperament at the international level are nowhere near where they should be for his age, and he does not have the ability of Scott Barrett to justify his inclusion in the squad. On the other hand, Cam Roigard being injured sucks, and he will be missed. I am not a fan of Finlay; I just don't think he is international standard. TJ has passed his prime, but I am happy he is there, and Cortez is there to do a job in the system. As for number 10, who knows how Razor will want to play this position, but I will note that both Beauden and Damien are getting old, so Super Rugby needs to produce something soon to improve this position. The center will improve under the Razor, as shown by his time at the Crusaders. The wing will be strong with Sevu and Mark. As for the number 15, I am really unsure who that will be, but injuries have affected this position as well (Will Jordan). I guess what I am saying is that this is a rebuilding stage for New Zealand, and they will definitely be challenged by England. I hope New Zealand gives Razor a good shot at the job because he has England, South Africa, Argentina, Australia, as well as Ireland and France in November to contend with. He may not win every game this year; in fact, he may lose a couple but if he build the new squad for the next world cup all will be forgiven!
Hoskin doesnt do any hard carries. By hard carries i mean. Those times when you get passed the ball in stagnant moment on attack where nothing is really going on. In those moments you need tour big boys to put in a hard carry and make the gain line to jump start the attack. Hoskin is more likely to put a kick in than do that carry
Razor is taking them back to the dark side he is clearly looking to front up against the physicality of the boks and his backs can hold their own against any team. you said it right physicality and creativity i tell you what the world better take notice especially the boks Razorblacks are coming
Great Captain choice. Scott is physically intimidating. You need that with England in case someone thinks they're tough. I think that Razor is thinking about a more physical AB approach to the game. They've been a little soft lately.
Let me break it down for you. Sotutu has been good om attack with a pack that has been dominant, he's never that guy on a struggling team. Then he's not a Mongrel on defense, he's not a hard hitting defensive player, and then I also think there's a bit of attitude problem. Blackadder covers 6.7 and 8 whereas Hoskins is only a 8. Glad he didn't make it, he's to soft for international footy
I think that Sotutu’s non selection is simply because the selectors are looking at impact off the ball. The guys who have been picked all have a high work rate and tackle hard. Sotutu is a ball carrier and it is possibly not the style they are after.
Ive always felt Hoskins is not physical enough for Test rugby. Sotiti has been very physical and is the perfect age to develop within that AB environment.

@@ChrisBrown-or8ky Also a Saders die hard but our line out problems belong to our loss of Whitelock retiring and Barrett being injured, we took less chances on expansive lineout plays when Taylor came back due to his experience but Bell will be immense when Taylor's day is done (although Im a big Samisoni fan)
Unsure why anyone would be surprised Blackadder gets picked as he's a starter in any international team if healthy and he will carve destructively and accurately until he breaks (hopefully he stays healthy)
Ethans got the most potential out of any current all black forward I reckon. Issue is he has gotten injured so much the last two or three years
NO Bell is 22,a real prospect
Good job mate well done. The ABs have huge men in the front row who are freakishly atheletic.
Sitit is next level.
Hoskins is a bit of a head scratcher.
Darry is back lick in the extended swuad. Hes young and big at 6.8 and lots of potential.
I think blackadder and jacobson just go ibto those dark places putting their bodies on the line. Its going to be a great series. Looking forward to England turning up with their fans.
Darry was part of the Crusaders setup. One we let slip.
@@LegendaryWizball yeah,we JAFA';s do appreciate it. Besides, his game has taken off under the expert tutelage of Stern Vern.
Bang on. No space for a glory forward who switches off when not 5m from the try line.
Blackadder has been consistently injured
“Is Hoskins Sotutu a dickhead?” You should have gone with that for the video title 😂
apparently has attitude problems but who are we to say.
He is very overrated. He played a dozen or so tests. Never stood out even against the US.
Ethan Blackadder is an absolute machine Sir
I hate the Saders, but Blackadder is, as they say in NZ SPEEEECIAL!
He's a myth and injury prone.
Coming from a New Zealander, The teams feels completely different. Different Captain, playmaker, veteran leadership.
England are in trouble. These guys will be psyched.
😂😂😂 the pommies will batter them.
@@michaelmoynihan9591 😝🤪😜
Yea boy
20 plus points on England. Speed out wide, forwards are mobile and havve a strong scrum, loosies are mobile , back line is solid and trying scoring wingers
No,both games will be close. This is a good England team.
Really worried about England's front row against this ABs team. That said, England have a scary back row and decent second row so could balance out.
6ft 5 for a prop is insane. It's a big lads game.
Google has Tosi at 154 kgs and 6'5 and Williams at 144 kgs and 6'5.
Tosi is 145 according to him. But he must be talking about after he’s taken a shit. He looks superhero huge.
@@LegendaryWizball either way it's a huge front row somehow i think it will be too much for the old men in Englands front row.
@@Trajan2401 I honestly think it will be a total pasting.

@@CeaselessDetritus Agree 💯
Love is back up for the squad
@@rjmn1 Yeah I was aware of that when I commented, I was referring to who should be in the 32 man squad. That is the first choice squad, hence Perofeta join to train with them, not Love. But thank you anyway.
While we're at it - I don't see David Havili as an All Black for the foreseeable future, unless his form improves markedly. He is in as squad cover, which wouldn't be my pick
I think Perofeta had a very good final, personally. He also has a versatility and calmness about him - useful long term investment.
Great video. Love your in-depth analysis.
@@rodeo4786 razor does have a relationship with Scott Barrett. Have to back them all the way.
I think Scott should be Captain, as
Ardie is our best player and biggest workhorse let him focus on playing he’ll always lead by example
Captaincy may magnify the "brainfarts" rather than reign them in...
@@garysmith6746 mind you let Ardie play, be too much responsibility for him so letting him play is better imo.

So Barrett starting 10 with DMac off the bench?
@@2halves12 The coach left that one up in the air but did say Dmac selected as a 10 and Barrett to cover both positions.
He’s a great man manager.
there will be injuries and he will get in before the WC
Congratulations, Billy Procter. Been on the fringes for a couple of years now. Was unlucky not to make the WC squad last year
Like the analysis brutha keep up the good work , support from the city of champions AUCKLAND 💪🔥💯😎
I think people forget that this side has been chosen just for England. Just have to trust Razor. I have questioned Razor before and he had always provided me wrong.
Bell is very fast and has good skill
Great run down as usual Tim, I always watch super rugby and NZ somehow being vulnerable due to transition as speculated by some of the UK press is just wishful thinking I’m afraid, I don’t think England will be within 15 points of NZ in either game. I hope to be proved wrong though
Really enjoy your commentary. Keep it up!
Looking forward to seeing what Billy Proctor will do this year
I think Razor was clever not to bring in to many new faces.
Probably holding back because Fabian Holland doesn't become eligible until next year, and he's the most promising up and comer.
@@icefarrow7959 Could be. Personally I think five props will be anough for England and one less lossie also won't make a big difference. He needs to test as many locks as he can. I think it is probably the position where they have the least depth. If they can build some depth there it will make them much stronger.

Agree the ideal places for the newly minted Abs is the all black environment in preparing them for their debut to international test rugby 👍
Its gonna be a hell of a tour. England looked soooo fit and smart against Japan. NZ squad looks as exciting as ever. Can’t wait to see the variations Razor brings to an already amazing team.
Great move relieving Savea of the captaincy. Let him roam free at 7, has to be the world’s best.
Strong team, big mobile ball runners flavour of the week. Is this the new blueprint to send the rest of the Rugby world quaking ? Time will tell !
Totally agree with everything you said. Looking forward to the first test 👍
Sotutu never smiles or shares anyone else’s happiness, he might have had some good assists, but he doesn’t seem like a team player… he probably didn’t make it more because of the cultural fit rather than playing skills.
And that’s what matters. Not scoring tries and winning games.
You mea he isn't woke enough?

I love the fact that you know who the players are.
I actually think the Crusaude rs half back had more potential but just didn't have enough games. Anywho Roigard is the best
Perofeto- at 15, good vision, sees gap and able to execute. Also has speed. Great pick
I can only hope that Mo'unga returns from Japan after two years and that he is pushed by some of the young guns for the 10 jersey by players that haven't been called on for this squad. Fergus Burke looked good for the Barbarians recently.
all blacks are going to be awesome
Everything about this side says, watch out the competition.
Sam darry is with the squad as cover. He is the next cab off the rank and probably in an expanded RC squad
I thought he should be there instead of Tupou V who didn't look great doing the hard yards and gave away a fair amount of penalties
Core is from the word cup team because despite being accused of being ‘the worst All Black team ever, and even brining their ’own wooden spoon’, they just lost the World Cup final.
Sotutu just goes missing, he doesnt have the mental application required to be an AB
I really hope Jason Ryan isn’t that much of a narcissist
@@GBH001might show Hoskins is that much of a narcissist however. Hoskins was fantastic with the hard yards on attack this year unlike previous years but still not there yet on defence compared tk the other loosies.

Pretty exciting props, really big and strong, with good skills. Bit light on the locks. The loosies are very exciting Ardie will be back at 7. Jacobsen or Sititi at 8. Blackadder could be anything. 9s are pretty good, midfield very good, back three are great, exciting on form. Bit tough on Sotutu, but he hangs off and looks for the plums.
Ardie won't be back at 7, that role is for Blackadder and Papali'i.
I just looked at the weights and all our locks are heavier than Eben Etzebeth.
Wow the All Blacks are playing all the best teams this year. 14 tests all up.
The forward play will become more combative and brutal. He will be seeking a much more dominant forward approach.
!st XV, I think:
De Groot, Taylor, Lomax, Barrett, Tuipolutu, Finau, Papali’i, Savea, Christie, MacKenzie, Clarke, Barrett, Ioane, Telea, Barrett.
Although some hot competition in the squad in some positions and the bench will be interesting too.
I really hope nr2 is Amua. He had a good season time to show that we believe in him and give him the start of the go. Also england knows cody and what he brings surprise them with n power runner
An okay side will leave it at that.
Love to see the 23 for the 1st test v England. We will know by 4th i think.
Can’t wait to go
Here’s a thought for your show: why not have a Skype with someone from NZ who can answer some of your questions about the AB squad?
Whoops, just saw the Maori line-up. Got that wrong...
This is just the first squad! A bit of gamesmanship going on .....watch that space. 😊
The English media are playing up your chances but I can’t see anything other than drubbings. It’s a good AB squad with a talismanic coach. It starts up front and the AB props look more likely.

Maybe his defence? who knows?

The loose forward selections for the first game will be interesting. I'd like to see the trio of Finau, Blackadder and Savea start in numerical order with Jacobsen, Papali'i and Satiti coming off the bench. You have to feel for Sotutu, but he doesn't connect with Jason Shaw and his workrate off the ball is suspect. All I can say is thank f Cane wasn't selected, for all his tackling, he was a walking red card.
Jason Shaw had difficulty communicating with Sotutu last year as the forwards coach, a position he still holds.
Never heard of Jason Shaw??
England are going to have to find a the following:
A decent 7
A decent pair of props
A decent 9
A centre
A wing
And the courage to pick Dan as a starter
Seems your skipper thinking he’s a bit tough, considering his discipline record.
I feel for Lakai and Love missing out. Perofeta is a 10 and 15 who has done well for the Blues. Congrats to him.
They are in the wider squad
I think that Sotutu’s non selection is simply because the selectors are looking at impact off the ball. The guys who have been picked all have a high work rate and tackle hard. Sotutu is a ball carrier and it is possibly not the style they are after.
Ive always felt Hoskins is not physical enough for Test rugby. Sotiti has been very physical and is the perfect age to develop within that AB environment.
