  • Nux Plexi Crunch Review. In this video, I review the brand new NuX Plexi Crunch Pedal from the Reissue Series. This is a High Gain pedal that emulates the sought after Marshall Plexi amp. In order to offer an objective review, I used a Hotone Britwind amp which includes a VOX AC Amp and Marshall Plexi. This is a really great sounding pedal, especially with a little reverb and tweaking the guitar volume. Enjoy!

    I ordered one of these yesterday afternoon. The mid scoop in the tone circuit is largely how come this pedal will likely be a huge step forward in my quest to approximate the Boston guitar tone - without needing a Rockman unit of any kind

    • @michaelgrahamwongacutemadness

      actually if you crank it all the way it has so many mids that you’ll likely go into feedback it did with at least three setups I’ve tried it with but it sounded better than any other high gain pedal I’ve come across when I got the settings just right which isn’t as hard as when there’s a 3-band eq or more complex one like the metal zone

    • @lightharbormusic
      @lightharbormusic 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just use a qzone pedal (like Rick Beato does) or get an MXR parametric eq to boost the mids. Using a qzone with a plexi style distortion and stereo chorus gives you a very close Boston sound.

    You might want to try master at 10 o'clock ...pre at 4 o'clock ...tone at 10 o'clock and presence at 12 o'clock. This setting actually matches my 50 watt Plexi.

      I have an old BOSS Power Stack (black stomp box). The ST-2 should be treated more like a stand-alone guitar pre-amp, & less like a conventional overdrive pedal. (If that makes any sense.). That being said, you can get some HUGE sounds out of an ST-2, when properly cranked. I think that the ST-2 could benefit from a good EQ pedal, in order to max out its full sonic potential. Just one old man's humble opinion...

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That one took me a minute. Well, it wouldn't work, as you would need a receiver that's not built into the amp. What you could do is get a B5RC and a Mighty Lite BT. That would essentially get you there. The only drawback would be that you wouldn't have the stereo amp. Hope that helps.

    So, from the way you've demoed it, you made it seem like the Master is, like on the real amp, inducing "power tube" saturation. Am I misunderstanding this correctly? If I'm understanding it correctly, how do you control the overall output of the pedal? I mean if you want both preamp and power tube saturation, won't the output be too hot and wouldn't you risk clipping the A/D converter of some modelers?

    • @ThePedalGuy
      @ThePedalGuy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s correct. The plexi is used as an overdrive in this setup so that you can hear what it’s actually doing. If I were to crank the gain on the amp and just use the plexi as usual it would be rubbing one preamp into another which doesn’t prove the point

      @ThePedalGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was really disappointed with this pedal. I mean it had a good slightly splatty tube-like sound, but like a lot of cheaper amps and overdrive pedals, it was voiced badly in the high frequencies. I found it had too much of an aggressive high-frequency roll-off I had to use an eq pedal after it to bring back in the 6k. IMO a boss blues driver sounds a lot better but for $50 I can't complain too much I guess. to be fair if you prefer a darker sound and don't like a lot of 6-7k slice in your sound you might love this pedal.
