    I got the UZI in my pedalboard specifically for the high gain metal tones (oh what a monster it is!), and never thought of it as a Plexi-style drive to be honest. Thanks for opening my mind towards a possible different application as well! Great comparison video by the way, congratulations and keep on rocking 🤘

      Thanks a lot! Yeah, the Uzi is actually surprisingly versatile... it does so many tones really well. I really enjoy its lower gain tones too. And (if you haven't tried it yet) it stacks well with others too! Enjoy yours and rock on!

      I believe the Uzi is a clone of the Friedman BE OD and the Fireman is a clone of the Friedman BE OD Deluxe

      Because it is not based on a Plexi but a TS in front of a JCM800 pretty much like the Friedman BE OD

    Excellent comparison. I only have the Joyo Uzi of them, but each of them has its own charm and distinctive sound. Considering the price, they are all fully acceptable. This is just my personal opinion as an old home guitar amateur. But I have to mention that the NUX brand has been doing very good effects especially recently, they are definitely in my sights for the future. Greetings Pavel CZ

    • @RichWordsMusic

      Thanks Pavel! Yes, I agree - I think these are all excellent options, depending on what exactly you want. For me the Uzi and the Fireman are the most versatile (especially the Fireman with its two channels!) and they would be the ones on my board :) NUX are really doing some great stuff at the moment... if you also like lighter overdrives, try the 6ixty5ive! This is an amazing and transparent pedal, and also the price is great - I made a video for this one too if you want to check it out: th-cam.com/video/wHc1EaRvzJE/w-d-xo.html

    Aesthetically, I like the Nux second from left best, only because its controls look like they were Frankensteined from a Plexi amp’s faceplate and transplanted there. But also after acquiring some micro-form factor stomps, I quickly gained an appreciation for them in that they take up next to no space in what stomps I have lined up, which is really useful and headache-reducing. I very quickly traded in my urge to ridicule their almost ludicrous smallness for respect, once I “got” that bit of it. These all sound really good. Maybe my least fave could be the Joyo on the end, but not by a margin sufficient to pronounce it “inferior” to the others.

    In what way is the UZI based on a Plexi? Sounds a lot more like a Tubescreamer in front of a JCM800 and it is supposed to be based on the Friedman OD.

    Great comparison! My favorites are the nux fireman and the joyo uzi. The fireman is great because of the options to use two different channels. This pedal is a bit more than only a distortion pedal. The uzi was for a long time on my pedal board. It delivers a powerful sound and it's also flexible. Since 4 years I have the operation trinity distortion from vs audio on my pedal board. It's a bit darker and also very powerful. This pedal is not available anymore, but the aftermath has the same unit, but it has also a boost added. 🙃🤘

    • @RichWordsMusic

      Thanks Roberto! Yes, those are my favorite pair also, and the Fireman's dual-channel flexibility (and headroom) really gives it the edge. These pedals are both supposedly based on the Friedman BE-OD, so I'm not surprised at these performances! Now I just spent some time watching videos of the Operation Trinity and the Aftermath... maybe I need to try these soon too! The Aftermath with the Boost looks like a great option. Thanks for the GAS tip 😉 And cheers for watching as ever!

  • @agnawkneemoose6373

    The Fireman sounds the best, but I don't know that I'd really use the dual channels and at that price, I'd rather spend a little more to pick up a used 5150 Overdrive. The Uzi and Golden Plexi are both good options for the price.

    Fireman sounded the best followed by the Golden Plexi🤘🏻 I have a Tone City Model M which gives you two flavours of Marshall as well as a great boost side that you can run independently too.

      Ooh, I've heard a lot about the Model M - need to try that one day! If it's anywhere near as good as the Fireman or the Golden Plexi it'll be excellent!

      @@RichWordsMusic It really as great pedal, and often I set the gain low just to fatten up my sound. It gives you the Marshall 900 and 900 flavours selected by a small switch, and you can also run the boost into the gain channel, or run it on its own as it is a nice quality boost🤘🏻

  • @christopherebeyrol4553

    No doubt, tone city brings the best crunch and bite. With still some deepness and style compared to the nux plexi crunch which is more flat and not that easy to set up by the way.

    • @RichWordsMusic
      @RichWordsMusic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, there's loads of bite in the Golden Plexi... it's a fantastic pedal for that for sure. I also find the NUX Plexi Crunch extremely fiddly to dial in, because each of the knobs influences the others so much. It's kind of like retuning a guitar with a Floyd Rose where you tube one string and the others go out ;) Cheers and rock on!

    I'm looking for a MAIB pedal that can sound like Oasis. Specially live. Would you say NUX Plexi Crunch will do the trick?

    • @RichWordsMusic
      @RichWordsMusic  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Plexi Crunch would do it, yes! But you could also try some slightly lower gain MIAB pedals for that. Or even a Rat. And another tip: recently I saw a pedal come out that is meant to sound like Oasis - the SoundLad Liverpool Scran. Worth a look, I think!

    I think the Fireman walked away the winner here. That said, as a current user of both the Joyo and Tone City pedals I'd be happy with either of those as well.

      It's actually quite shocking how well the Fireman does here... such a dynamic and powerful pedal, and so versatile. The Tone City is a great mini option of course, and the Joyo is great too - but the Fireman is my current choice of these.

    Great comparison, i think fireman sounds thicker than uzi, but which one have more gain? What do you think?

    • @RichWordsMusic
      @RichWordsMusic  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Yes, I agree about the thickness, and I think this is also because the Fireman has more headroom too! In terms of pure gain levels, when the Gian knob is maxxed out, I think they are both very similar... but again the Fireman just sounds a bit "bigger" somehow!

  • @maotemplar

    i have the golden plexi 1 and just like the V2 it is has a "tone knob problem": is lacks of mids! i recently bought the Fireman and it is absolutely fabulous, a real work horse, from crunchy clean tone to high gain lead tone in a pedal and controls let you create the tone you are looking for. dont waste your money with other 3 toys!

    Would the NUX Plexi be suitable for Metal?

    • @RichWordsMusic

      It depends... I would say for old school, more sludgy metal, yes. But it's not going to be good for more modern metal styles, or for tighter riffing in the same way as the Uzi, for example. For that, I would actually recommend you try the Joyo Dark Flame too... this is a true metal monster!

  • @mike8610

    The Fireman has the most clarity to the ear. The rest especially the Nux on the left sound overly compressed like they’re being strangled.

    Fireman and Golden Plexi, these two sounds the best but which is a better option?

    • @RichWordsMusic

      I'd say sound-wise they're about equal, yes. The one difference is that the Fireman will get you slightly tighter high gain tones. Which is better for you? I'd say choose the Fireman if you want the extra versatility, and the Golden Plexi if you want the simplicity :) Hope that helps!

      The Plexi Crunch does suffer here, doesn't it 😅 It's a strange pedal. In the dedicated video I did of it, I got some (in my opinion) great sounds out of it... but whenever I shoot it out against others it seems to lose out. And especially against some excellent opposition like we have here.

      @@nicosonic That's true. I don't have a BE-OD at the moment but I have tried the two together and they sound super similar. Next time I get a BE-OD I'll do a comparison, also with the Fireman.
      My guess is Joyo intended the Uzi to sound the same (like the Dark Flame with the Revv G3 - which they conformed to me in an email), and they changed the names of some of the knobs (e.g. Bias instead of Tight). The only confusion there is the Mid control...
