I get it. I’ve been gardening for about 30 years. When I had kids in those middle years I took a year off a couple of times. Sometimes it’s needed. Leaving it lay fallow will give it a boost anyway. I will miss the garden tours but kids are top priority! Good job momma 😊

Whatever you decide regarding the garden, please plant some flowers ! They make you so happy ! I think it's important for you (and your mental health !) to keep some things that you do only for your own pleasure. You're not only a mom and a wife, you're a person too, and this person deserves some care 😀

You’re so kind. But I agree. I think some flowers (and pumpkins) will have to happen. 😊

I snip the ends off the beans with scissors but Alec's way works too! 😆😂

Looking forward to see where this family huddle goes ~ I was fortunate to have grandparents & parents that planted gardens here in the southeast. When it came my turn, my garden was small due to postpartum complications. So my children had a limited amount of gardening experience, but also "worked" in their great grandparents garden. I see you having a smaller garden with flowers of course 🌻

That’s so fun that your kids got the best of both worlds. 💕 I think it will likely be a small garden for us and then since my parents can’t seem to give up gardening, the boys will still have their share of carrots and peas to raid at grandma and grandpas house. 😊

Could you maybe ask the boys if they’d like to do a garden and if so what they’d like to plant? If they make the decisions then maybe that would keep them motivated and interested. Maybe a small garden where you could put sprinklers on a timer if you go away. I hope you find a solution.❤

I asked Jackson if he’d like to have a garden and he said “well yeah, it’s saving money” and I got a vigorous head nod “yes” from Alec. If only Jackson knew how much I spent on dirt this year. 🤣 So it sounds like something small based around their choices and yes to the automatic sprinkler. I have one but I need to locate it and then re-figure out how to use it. 🤪

Think about some cover crops to keep the weeds down. I’d watch your tours if you just show us your yard. It’s fun to see what grows in PNW compared to SE.

We always think about a cover crop but never follow through with actually planting one. 🤦🏻‍♀️ We did end up with a really lovely clover lawn when we threw a neglected bag of cover crop mix out to the birds a couple winters ago. 🤣
I’ll have to do a tour of our property one day. I have also thought about doing a series of useful weeds. 😅 We’ll see where next year takes us. 😎
