    Random thought having greatly narrowed my wardrobe down.... a few seasons of going through you will start gravitating toward the clothes you look good in, and if you think your makeup changes that, you might look at those colors too because you can be wearing the wrong season there too.

    Love the gold mirror for fall/winter! Did you ever have a gate around your woodstove? We have a little one still and a similar stove set up.... it has been a struggle to find something that goes all the way around, is tall enough and he can't put his hands clear through the bars. Didn't know if you have a recommendation?

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! We’ve actually never had a gate up. 😬 My parents did have a tri- folding gate in front of their fireplace at their house. But I have see some at home goods before, and I know Amazon has some larger gates, that you can adjust the layout of. We just talked a lot about “hot” and tried to find any opportunity to show examples of what fire can do. My oldest was happy to listen and trust us, but my second (second children are a different breed), any time he came near a candle, he’d try to reach into the flame. He was very curious about the fire. One time after saying “hands off, that’s hot” 50x about a candle we just let him stick his finger near the flame. He didn’t hurt himself at all or even cry, but it was enough of a shock to realize that we weren’t making it all up. We haven’t had any burn incidents and the boys help us build fires now. I think that by making them a part of it instead of keeping them away has taken some of the mystery out of it, and created a sense of respect, I guess. Not at all what you asked for, but that’s my experience with kids and fire. 😅

    I was so pumped for fall and then the weather just wasn’t cooling down and I also lost so much motivation. So there are just pumpkins strewn about the house my toddler has used as teethers and my dog has been batting around (pretty sure she’s part cat). 😂 Thank you for the cozy vibes! This might motivate me…or the house may stay in its tiny disaster state. We shall see.

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s pretty relatable. Normally September 1st hits and it’s fall in my mind, but I feel like we had more summer in September than we did in August. Just the season whiplash that we get. 😭 Our pumpkins are getting chewed on slightly less this year, but the one I put on the entry way table is rarely there. 😅 I think it’s ok to take years off from decorating, (I don’t really believe in decorating for spring and summer anymore lol) and depending on when you decorate for winter it may be worth just holding out a little longer. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

    • @Proseccoandpacifiers
      @Proseccoandpacifiers วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m the same way. Back to school has always felt like the start of fall in my head so I’m feeling very discombobulated. Maybe I can finally take shorts out of our drawers… We went to the pumpkin patch last weekend and I tried to dress everyone for some fall photos and ended up changing myself and my son into t shirts in the mom and baby tent five minutes after we got there. 😂 LOL so it’s not just my toddler who’s obsessed with pumpkins? I’m not sure what it is…maybe the similar shape to a ball. 🤷🏻‍♀️ At this point I think the house isn’t seeing decorations until Black Friday (aka Christmas decor time in my book).

    We do 2 “no spend month” each year- April and October. Because we have a few freezers and a 6 month pantry, it’s pretty easy food wise, it was the once a week eating out, travel, random spending especially on our grandkids and turning our swamp cooler up or heat down, we get through those months. We chose April because tax season- we generally have to pay a bit into taxes when we file in February, we like to recover from Christmas season and 6 birthdays from Jan-March, April was just the best month for us to do a no spend though I know a lot of people do it in January; it also had us go through some freezer items that needed to be used and gear up for 4 anniversaries and 9 more birthdays and trips for summer time. October, again to recover from the summer fun and helping our 3 adult children get school supplies or school clothes for our grandchildren (we choose to do this, they NEVER ask or we expect us to help as they can afford it themselves, but we have 12 grandchildren and there are still 6 in public school and 2 in college), October is also when we butcher a cow and 2 pigs and some meat chickens for all of our freezers, finish harvesting a garden and stocking up at the Farmers Markets in September and canning; October no spend also gets us ready for the holiday season and 2 birthdays before Christmas. We have a set monthly budget for pretty much every aspect of our lives along with a savings budget that we never deviate from each month but 2 no spend months kind of gives us a mental and physical break and an opportunity to gear up for holidays and summer crazy.

      It sounds like you've certainly got a system down! Thank you for sharing, I want to watch your youtube channel. 😊I think September and January are going to be our for sure no spend months and I'm hoping to stock up on some bulk produce this fall and winter to preserve. I always imagine canning in the summer but there just isn't enough time in the day during that time of year. Thank you for sharing a little glimpse into your life. 💕 By the way I think it's so kind that you help with school clothes and supplies for your grandkids. I remember my grandparents doing the same for my parents, and they do that for us. I'm trying not to look too far ahead, but being a granny sounds lovely. 😅 Thank you so much for watching and your comment. 💖

    Wow! I had to go back and listen to the amount of paper towels people use PER MONTH! I maybe used a roll a month when my boys were little but we do not go through an even one in a month now with just my husband and l. Unless we have a major project going on, like cleaning the oven we might go through more, but I live So. California so trying to use less water is the goal. I have done the laundry stripping once, I did expect it to be dirty than it was, so either my clothes were not too bad or I did do it right, either way I did not feel like this was best use of water (again with the water!) and my time. But it is satisfying to see when a bit brighter clothes.

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, that number is CRAZY! Even when we constantly had a roll on our counter, we never used close to that much. I think for some people any reusable dish towels are just not something that’s used. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We do now have a “meat/fish” roll in a drawer. I’ve ended up having to toss one too many towels after my husband used it for fish or meat and didn’t tell me. 🤮 I could definitely see how in California it would make more sense to choose options that are going to use less water though. Thank you for watching! 😊💕

      Now I’m not condoning any frivolous purchases here. 😅 BUT… If you’re an avid lemon/lime consumer, maybe it could be an investment that pays itself off over time. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe with some extra artificial lighting you could have a successful little tree! I got this Meyer lemon for $30 in May and it has 10 lemons on it (they’re still a few months away from being ready). Assuming I keep it alive, it should pay itself off in a few years. 😅

      That is amazing savings!! And very inspiring. 💕 I think a no spend year is something I’d like to do when the boys are grown. Kids just come with so many financial variables haha. The last couple years I’ve chose 10 things or so that I choose not to buy in a year and it is helping me keep myself in check with impulse buying and developing better shopping habits. A no spend year is the ultimate challenge though. 😍
