    I don't think it foreshadows Dany's turn but the destructive nature of dragons. George has said dragons are the equivalent of nukes in this world, and this was just a taste. In just a few moments, a young dragon killed over 200 hundred people, now imagine what they will do when they take commands in battle. The shock in the show wasn't "dragons kill" but the fact that Dany made a decision to kill innocents, which she doesn't do here. I think her last chapter, when embraces her words is more of a foreshadowing of a dark path than this chapter.

    You can say that when Daenerys decides to face Drogon, it was precisely because of the fear of the dragon simply destroying the city that she had been working so hard to keep safe.
    I fail to see how at the end of the TV series she just burns an entire city down out of "rage".

    11:30 I took that line as her saying that if she fell to her death at that moment, getting the chance to ride a flying dragon would still have been worth it despite dying after. Not the slaughter at the pit.

    Always felt Dani missed a trick when re-opening the Pits, I thought she'd insist that if it is such an important religious tradition then Hizdar should fight the first fight hence he'd most likely and she'd be free to marry again.

    I think they didn't portray it like it happened in the books because they NEVER meant to get into dragon lore. If they had shown Dany using a whip to tame her wild beast of a dragon, then the easy peasy excuse that dragons and their riders just have a wonderful bond would be shattered. They would have to explain more, and explanations take way too much time and effort.
    They would have had to play the whole thing out properly after as well when Drogon settled on "Dragonstone." I wish they would have. It would have made more sense to show that Drogon probably loves his mother as much as any flying nuke does, but has become wild enough to not want to listen to her fully. Or they could have highlighted that Dany said herself that she didn't really want to go back to her city so why would Drogon want to go? I guess they also didn't want to show Emilia Clark shitting herself to death and they kind of wanted to forget about the witches words about her not having children.
    Fuck this show man. It's so hard to watch when I know where it's headed. Like a Rollercoaster straight into hell.

    • @christinestreeter8566
      @christinestreeter8566 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They straight up ignored the dragon lore from the book! Jon rode Rhaegal that would have made them bonded, but he just went for a joyride! They could have added actual tension in the show by having Jon and Rhaegal bond and Dany losing one of her children to someone who also has a stronger claim to the throne then hers! Imagine Dany calling to Rhaegal and him ignoring her and staying with Jon, that would have been way more devastating than Rhaegal getting sniped because Dany forgot about the enemy forces and couldn’t see a fleet of ships from dragon back.

      Daenerys once said a dragon is not a slave. Kill the masters. Kill those who wear a tokar. Kill those who hold a whip but harm no child under 12.
      She wore a tokar. She takes 1/10th of the profit of those who sell themselves into slavery. She holds a whip. She chained her own children. She became the very thing she swore to destroy

    A darker path does not necessarily mean evil......
    I feel like the whole Mereen storyline is to show how pointless it is to make peace with slavers... Even during this chapter we see a few freed slaves and it's basically the same as when they weren't freed..
    Fire and Blood is coming to Essos once Dany comes back to Mereen... Fire and blood across Essos, Yunkhai, volantis and Pentos, Qarth as well.. No more negotiations the dragons are freed the gloves are off.. It's war

    • @SimplymeSVEN18
      @SimplymeSVEN18 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mean indiscriminately executing members from every family in Meereen is a very good way to turn everyone immediately against you and your rule. Taking hostages on top of it makes it even worse and considering the people she sentenced to death didn't even get a trial nor justice they likely figured their hostages were as good as dead anyway and they might as well plan to avenge them. Dany had already fucked up as queen before she even began imo.

      @@SimplymeSVEN18 those are slave masters not normal nobles the slaves will not be upset by that ,people take hostages all the time it's a vary basic tactic to keep people in line , those people were guilty there was no need to be a trail why are there so many slave apologists in this fandom?

    • @SimplymeSVEN18
      @SimplymeSVEN18 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thatoneblackdude3333 No, they weren't all guilty. Dany specifically had them executed indiscriminiately regardless of involvement. When she could've easily found out the guilty parties and yet...she didn't bother. She later reflects back on this with doubt when familymembers/slaves come forward saying their executed kin/masters were in fact good people and innocent of the crimes they were charged with.
      I'm aware it's a basic and effective tactic; but not when you've already established you're essentially going to murder people on a whim regardless if they did something or not. She did it the first time over the crucifying of those kids and did it again when Selmy was killed. That just shows those hostages will be murdered on a whim at some point regardless of what their family does or doesn't do. I'm hardly a slave apologist and merely pointing out Dany's poorly thought out and aribitrary actions are a big reason of why her rule in Slaver's Bay flopped.

    • @thatoneblackdude3333
      @thatoneblackdude3333 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@SimplymeSVEN18 that only happened in the show in the books dany spacificly targets those involved so no it wasn't indiscriminate , once again show only in the books there was no such thing except for hizdar who is a unreliable narrator.
      Once again your using show only events in a video about the books this never happened dany doesn't kill anyone on a whim and does nothing to suggest she'd harm hostages in fact she outright refuses to do so when she is suggested to by her advisers , the slavers aren't retaliating because danys some violent tyrant there retaliating because they don't want to let go of there evil practice and want to maintain control , danys mistakes are a factor in her rule of Marren but it is not because she's incompetent or a bad ruler it is because she's being lenient and compromising with people who don't want compromise.

    I love your videos my dude!! But I don’t think I’m fully with you on this one.
    You’re right about Drogon killing indiscriminately, but Dany doesn’t just shrug it off, but almost leans into it. Her last chapter of TWOW is a turning point. The whole idea of “dragons don’t plant trees” kind of shows where her headspace is at. I don’t think Daenerys is denying her feeling of guilt, but rather realizing that she needs to wield her dragons and actually take responsibility for them.
    Also the woman in the green tokar seems to symbolize the green grace. And while it’s said that she was shielding a child, and people on fire were running around her, it never explicitly says that said woman and child die.
    We also have to keep in mind that there was absolutely an assassination attempt on Daenerys at the pit. Those locusts were poisoned. And given the fact that the Direwolves/Dragons seems to have a pseudo magical ability to know when their soul bonds are in danger, that’s why Drogon could have come in with full force. We also know that at least TWO enemy sell sword companies were in attendance, and I think that’s where the show comes in-there was no guarantee that the locusts were going to kill Dany, not to mention if anyone else ate them Daenerys would be on guard and who knows who she would have taken it out on (Hizdahr told her to eat them after all). So this was their ONLY shot to catch her unawares. You can absolutely be sure that if they had one plan, there was another plan going on just as well. Especially since the two main pit fighters that were going to be the “finishing act” were also now the ones being bodyguards to Hizdahr.

    • @KevinPendragon
      @KevinPendragon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, her final chapter shows us that the peace Daenerys has tried to establish is no longer an option. Now she will no longer relent or be as compromising as she was before. As Martin has said, she will embrace her Targaryen heritage and there will be fire and blood to follow. If the disaster at Daznak's is any indication, a lot more innocent people are going to die as she embarks on her crusade. Because it is always the innocents that suffer the most when the high lords go to war.

    I often feel as if Drogon isn't Dany's bonded dragon. He never seems to really listen to her. Sure, she flew him but that's mostly it, where he takes her was his own decision. I wonder if Dany really just wanted Drogon to be her dragon because he's the biggest or named after her late husband but I just feel like the only reason Drogon let her ride him is because she's his "mother." But this is just a theory lol.

    • @KevinPendragon
      @KevinPendragon  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Daenerys just needs more time with him. He is her dragon now that she has ridden him. She's just incredibly inexperienced and even bonded dragons can be disobey and be fickle. I do wish we had a moment where Dany wonders which dragon she would ride. She does know she can only ride one but she never considers "Hmm, the green, the white, or the black? A mother cant have a favorite." (In my head, she's most impressed by Drogon, Rhaegal is a headache, and Viserion is mama's baby but that's just my goofy thoughts)
