    A rambletron on my attempts and final success on removing the harmonic balancer bolt (or crank bolt) on my 6.0 LS engine. I was removing the bolt and balancer to perpare for a cam swap into the 6.0 LS. This is all in preparation for the LS swap into the G body Malibu that is feature on this channel. Be sure to check out the other videos to watch as I progress through the project in an attempt to build possibly one of the quickest cars built on TH-cam that is street driven. Be sure to subscribe and tune in to see where this project car goes!

    I used a 1/2" drive impact (Harbor Freight Earthquake) and a 3gal small porter cable compressor. It came off! Never thought this little compressor would have enough air volume to get this bolt out, but it did.

    Thanks for sharing your experience. There are two different types of tools made to hold the harmonic balancer pulley while you back out the bolt. One style bolts to your fly wheel and holds it in place, the other fits into the pulley and onto a breaker bar, I got mine from Schley Products, American made, good steel, but there are other tool companies that have a version of these. And I agree, a little heat on the bolt won't hurt anything. Again, thanks.

    It's hard to remove that bolt even if you got an "Impact gun" some of them are so rusted on there you need to spin the impact both ways to loosen up the bolt than spin it off, I just did a video today on removing the lower Pulley!

    I tried my Makita 1/2 drive impact driver and it didn't touch it.
    Confused me a bit because this is my big dog tool always beats out my 19cfm compressor impact.
    Anyway I scratched my head figuratively and took out the 3ah batt and put in a 5ah batt.
    Zing came right out.
    Then I used a "Chrysler" harmonic balancer puller.

    I just bought & used the biggest, most expensive 1/2" Dewalt impact Lowe's had to offer @ $350 & it did nothing to remove this bolt.
    This totally pissed me off as I never ever spend that kind of $ on a tool.
    Then I go to use it on it's maiden & sole reason for me buying it & it fails miserably.
    I guess I'll try adding heat before I return the pos impact.

    • @charleshenson4183
      @charleshenson4183 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As an update.
      Before using heat i tried an impact socket & the dewalt pulled through & no heat was needed.
      I have repeated this on 2 more engines & it works like a charm.
      Note to self, never ever use a 12pt standard socket with an impact on a 6pt bolt head.
      We learn something every day.
