I think it should be looked at from a different angle: decide which card you're gonna get first then decide which series. For example, if I want a 5070 TI, do I want Prime, TUF, or pay an unreasonable amount for a high-end Strix 5070 TI that basically has the same performance? If I want a 5080, do I want a cheaper TUF or do I want a more premium Astral?
What's actually interesting is the Strix originally was intended to be the "budget card" in the ASUS line up. If I remember correctly, that all changed with the 10th gen products. So in a weird way, ASUS is returning to form. Thanks for the hook-up and inside info on this. Great video.
I find it interesting that Asus is changing up the lineup and the models being offered; I kind of like the new setup with the higher TBP cards offering a newer higher end variant vs the regular models that we are used to seeing.
Interesting to see how they are starting to mirror their motherboard naming scheme. I wonder if we'll end up seeing an Astral motherboard line as well although there are so many ROG variants with in the motherboard arena. Maybe an Astral itself will appear.
Great minds think alike. I literally recorded a section comparing the motherboard lineup to the GPU lineup haha. I had the same thought process. But ultimately I cut it from the video. I made a few technical mistakes in my comparisons and just decided to cut it instead of re-recording it.
Great video! That is such a bummer no white strix 5090 :( I love my white 4090 oc ❤ I love the design of the strix 70 series. I really was hoping that would be on the 90. So if I upgrade I’d have to go straight all the way to the top to get an astral… but The tuf cards are really sick tho and I’ve had great luck with them as well. I actually have had a ton of tuf series cards and they are just as good as the strix ❤
I still remember when you used the warranty on your old 4090 and upgraded to the Strix white version. That card is so beautiful. I agree about the Tuf Gaming series as well. Those designs have really grown on me over time. However, I gotta be honest. That Astral is what I want if I had my choice. That thing is slick!
You can hang on to your card until refresh time in 2 years. The 4090 is still a beast. 🙂 The 90 cards have been the best value for a while now. I’m hanging on to the 3090 because I don’t game as much.
they should honestly go back to simpler times, maybe next gen? pro art that covers up to 80 class prime covering to 70ti tuf covering to 90 (as a means for high end without eye candy) deleting astral and putting strix back (as eye candy high end)
As an Anime / Manga fan I'm looking forward to what ASUS does this year with a 5090 colab. Will it be yet another Evangelion one like Auska / Unit 2 with last years 4090, but with a white themed Rei? Personally I'm a huge fan of Zenless Zone Zero so would love a full system themed around that game to buy and build.
Using Thermal Pads/Sheets makes sense for GPUs as I'm using the KryoSheet on my 9800X3DS with the premium air cooler and seeing them finally coming to GPU board partners is a great smart move as Pads/Sheets are more reliable than paste stuff. I think this time around, I'll go with Asus RTX 5070Ti with those Thermal Pads they added into so that's something to consider
Nvidia are that greedy. They leave nothing on the table for third party. Hence why they are making over engineered GPUs. If I was them. I'd make some with Upgradable v ram.
I feel as though ROG Astral is just a change of name from ROG Strix. They could have used the same naming convention since there is no ROG Strix 5080/5090. I don't see the ROG Astral as offering anything more premium than ROG Strix did in previous lineups, and without Strix cards at the high end there is no comparison. So yeah, just calling it a new thing in an attempt to boost engagement and advertising.
Wow, I didn't expect a seemingly simple question to be the catalyst for a video. However, you shared some amazingly insightful info that can't be found anywhere else! And, I greatly appreciate it! Asus' willingness to share this info to provide to us, shows that Asus is once again caring about their followers by being transparent and to clarify things that aren't clear. Much appreciated! As a current WR gpu holder and a former 7800x3d WR holder, I can say that I am looking forward to putting the Astral through its paces and see what we can get out of that beast! And, Thanks for the expanded answer - truly enlightening!
When I sat out to be a creator one thing I always looked forward to was making content based on subscribers comments. This worked out perfectly. Asus even said other people would have the same question. They were expecting it. So a video like this really helps anyone looking for the Strix.
As an ASUS RTX4070 Super Dual Evo owner, while not intending to upgrade my GPU anytime soon, I am disappointed by the lack of any TRUE sff card in this lineup. Prime series may be 2.5 slot but at 30cm long or more, you can't really call it sff oriented, right? Maybe the entire RTX5000 lineup is too power hungry compared to RTX4000, but I don't like to see those huge and heavy cards being the only option at all price points, Let's hope that a Super or whatever is called refresh rectifies this and that goes for all GPU manufacturers - I haven't seen a two fan model by any company except RTX5090FE by NVidia themselves. What do you think people?
I will probably buy 5080 PRIME, or similar from other brands. Not interested in rgb whatsoever, cooling seems sufficient and it’s not huge (most likely will fit in my old case, so I don’t have to buy a new one which saves another 100-150$)
Dude that astral gpu is really cool. I love the 4 fan design it’s going to be great for air cool. I’m curious to see the price of that card. I’m guessing $2500 which is nuts
This is an unforced error by ASUS and a clear L.. why would you wait until months after launch to bring a white version.. like none.. at all.. basically throwing away launch day numbers to gigabyte or msi.. I was looking forward to buying an ROG Strix White 5090 but I would have bought the Astral instead.. if it was available at launch.. no way I’m waiting til Q2 to finish my build though. Gigabyte Aorus Master Ice it is. Tragic. RIP to the Strix Series.
Sucks that the prime series is the only one that doesn't offer rgb. As a person who prefers not to have rgb, the color scheme on prime wouldn't sit well for me. Personally there should be a way to get an all black gpu with no rgb or a way to have the rgb outside cover be blackish so that if and when possible to turn off rgb that the outter strip isn't soo noticeable
I am beyond disappointed by these offerings, and how the ROG Strix series was handled this time around. I specifically didn't buy an RTX 4000 series because I thought the lighting was trash. It just had lit up text in the back, and that circular light ring on the end. No RGB lighting along the side like the RTX 3000 series at all, which looked very badass. Now the ROG Strix RTX 5000 series looks badass again, and offers a full RGB along the side again. Awesome! But then as I saw some other reviewer doing (that was physically holding it at CES) noted how cheap the plastic on the bottom appeared of the ROG Strix 5070. And now we know why! They are making this "Astral" series the new high end, and not even offering 5080 or 5090 ROG Strix! ARE THEY INSANE?!? I just got the X870E-E motherboard, just like you, which I know is your main motherboard. So which GPU are you going to pair that with now? Because I mean the Astral RGB lighting doesn't match that pixelated RGB X870E-E style at all, and the new ROG Strix, while it will match a lot better, is now forced to only a 3070 Ti. I mean what the hell?!? This is an absolutely terrible decision by ASUS, especially after I just paid $500 for one of their top motherboards. I'm about ready to just start buying Gigabyte and being done with it. I hope you relay that feedback to them, because I'm P/Oed!!!
Since Ampere Strix used to be absurdly priced model with cooler negligibly better than TUF and more RGB. So card mostly for RGB croud which probaly didn't sell well. Astral seems trying costing premium for features and it makes more sense. My concern is the future of TUF series. Since Ampere they used to be imo the best cards - one of the best coolers and quality for upper midrange price what was fair. Prime is for sure to fill the gap when TUF non-OC had to be MSRP card, because Dual couldn't be enough cooler for given heatload.
I was between the Strix and Astral (if Strix was gonna drop 5080/90) cause I liked the design of the Strix but I guess I’m gonna have to go with the astral 5080-5090 depending on price cause I’m sure the astral is gonna be stupid expensive .. always had Strix cards.. guess we’ll have to see. Also was thinking Aorus Master but idk gotta wait and see actual benchmarks n stuff when videos come out
It bummed me out when I heard no strix only for the 5070 ti I think as it looks awesome. Not as drawn to the Astral. Sadly I have bought every Strix model but I am going elsewhere this gen. They don't realize the following the strix has.
I understand. I love Strix as well. I currently use Strix products myself. But I’m not discounting the Astral just yet. I want to try it before I knock it.
All current gen ASUS gpus have a 30-70% price increase over the cheapest models in my country. I never look at their cards, its a shame because they look nice
As industrial designer I appreciate the effort put into designing the astral, and I think its design is very impressive and meets the expectations of the enthusiasts. I expect it to be a great success, and honestly, I don't work for Asus, but I appreciate the new design and I would be very grateful if I was given one of their ASTRAL cards🤩 last gen of asus high end gpu rtx 40 series i have noted that many reviewers prefer TUF over the STRIX model due to the so many design elements in strix spatially the black version which was contains red and blue elements , the thing that many modern minimalistic design pc builds don't match with , so that is way we have rog astral this time which has been designed with remarkable effort to meet the aspirations of fans who are looking for unique modern minimalistic designs in their builds.
I’d like to get a 5080 founder edition. But if I can’t, I’ll settle for an Asus 5080. The Prime series looked nice with the 4070 Ti Super. But I don’t like the updated design for the 5000 series. So I may have spend a little more with a TUF 5080.
@ Yeah, I noticed that last year. 4070 Super Founders were easily available on both Nvidia and Best Buy. But 4080 Super were extremely rare. I had one chance to buy on Best Buy for in store pick-up, but that store was an hour and a half away from me. I also saw the 4090 Founder available on Nvidia last February or March. It was supposedly available for a good several hours as I kept checking and refreshing. But it seemed like too much GPU at the time. Yet hindsight is 20/20…
Oh boy, those temperatures, really are going to help my wallet. As long as the card stays cool and doesn't overheat that's all that matters but I just can't get into the hole my GPU has to be as cool as it can be
@ErockOnTech it's the same chip as the 4080 only certain things are cut back like L2 cache which I wish I could unlock. But my max I've be able to get so far is +284 core and +2000 mem. Temps where 58° as well. It's not bad haven't had any issue. It reached 3070mhz in 3d mark but I've seen others get above 3100 so I want to try and get there. The strix oc actual one someone actually made a youtube video on the benchmarks with one at 3090mhz and was able to beat the 4080 super in some stuff but it's basically almost a 4080.
Strix will still be here just not for the 5080 ans 5090. But yeah def going for an even higher end model for some reason? Doesnt make sense. Lol strix lineup was goated. I guess they figure a change of name can bring along different publicity? Idk bevause strix was always known as over priced? Lol even if its all I like to buy haha.
Wow I just published and you already have a lengthy comment haha. Yes, you’re correct. The ROG Strix will still be here. It will just be on the 5070 and 5070 Ti.
Given Strix history was higher end offering from Asus, I think it should at least be offered in the 5080 series. Especially If the goal now to make Astral the flagship I believe it should be designated to the 5090. I will need to wait on reviews for the 5070 Ti strix to pair with my B850-F MB.
As an AMD user I'd never buy ASUS card and I would get Sapphire or Power Color Red Devil any day over anything ASUS. For NVidea I'd probably risk it with Gigabyte Gaming OC card, definitely not MSI or overpriced ASUS.
Yes Strix branding is being replaced with Astral AMD are using Strix a little on the Strix Halo products and that might be a factor but I think thats coincidence as they are naming them badly with ai max random numbers + more bullshit
Im skipping 50 series. Or, im sitting on a 4090, like MANY does. I also live in EU. Meaning. I cant get the founders card for 2000. But only AIB cards that is "Military graded" expensive cards. In context, I cant even get a card for 2600 dollar, that would have been if the founders card with taxes, import etc would cost. It will be around 2800 dollar, to 3200 dollar. Is it worth upgrading? Hell no.. Its faster then a 5080.. you dont downgrade to get AI upgrade. Or.. There is only one option, that is 27% faster for about 3000 dollar. Not going to happen.
them not making a strix 5090 is the biggest sellout. the astral design looks terrible. im not a fan of the added fan design it looks so bad 😭the strix design is so much better and i refuse to get an astral just to get a 5090.
@@demon0.5the strix cards look very childish, cheap and plastic now. And the Astral looks absolutely amazing. If i could choose id choose not to have the 4th fan on the backplate side, but it is what it is. Card still looks great. 2nd best in the Msi SuprimX.
I like the ASUS TUF cards but they are way too expensive. The PRIME cards are cheaper but they also look very cheap. You can simply get better cards from other manufacturers for the money. The ASUS software is bloatware.
asus is the worst thing to happen to the PC world. Their laptops are all intentionally handicapped for obsolescence. The way they do it by intentionally only giving soldered ram but only limited size. For example if the amd 375 cpu is paired with 64gb ram that is all anyone needs. But ASUS will gobble up all the CPU and intentionally give soldered 32gb ram or lower.
Ah there it is. The inevitable comment I fully expected to receive. I’m not sure how sharing information on upcoming GPUs is being a fanboy. Also, if any other company is willing to talk with me, I will happily share their information as well. Would you rather not have this information?

LOL why is anyone buying anything from ASUS after all the crap they pulled? Seriously there are other partners anyone buying ANYTHING from ASUS is nuts.
Great Not. Was thinking who gives a flying f.. what its called as all about features to price. If yet another ASUS money grab for nothing extra will fall very flat. Those days are long gone. But as have a Strix MOBO would of been nice to match them again. Think ASUS will regret the change and be back next gen. Have a very strong feeling that wont be buying ASUS this time around.
i almost never buy Asus becouse i think they are like Scalpers offer way to high prices vs what nvidia show on the Screen after that than the store put even more on top of the profit so no ty

last gen of asus high end gpu rtx 40 series i have noted that many reviewers prefer TUF over the STRIX model due to the so many design elements in strix spatially the black version which was contains red and blue elements , the thing that many modern minimalistic design pc builds don't match with , so that is way we have rog astral this time which has been designed with remarkable effort to meet the aspirations of fans who are looking for unique modern minimalistic designs in their builds.
For the algo, always enjoy a Erock vid!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
@ what 5090 are you getting bro? I’m getting the TUF
@@George-um2vc I’m not sure yet honestly. I’m partial to the Astral but honestly the TUF design has really grown on me.
@ my thoughts too, I could afford the Astral but since TUF looks nicer and why not save some cash? Hope Asus sends you a 5090 for content.
@@George-um2vc I appreciate the positive energy. 😊
I think maybe when the 5080 Ti comes out well see a Strix version of that
I’d like to get a 5080 founder edition. But if I can’t, I’ll settle for an Asus 5080. The Prime series looked nice with the 4070 Ti Super. But I don’t like the updated design for the 5000 series. So I may have spend a little more with a TUF 5080.
My main issue with the founders editions is that they have a limited supply chain. Not everyone has the opportunity to even buy them. But I hear you.
Yet hindsight is 20/20…
When an ASUS 4090 custom was 2499, maybe they realised they couldnt do a 5090 for less than 3499.
I have no idea on pricing at this time.
Hopefully I get this in launch day
Excellent work; thank you
Thank you too!
good to know the prime is the cheapest. probably the best looking card out there other than the FE and astral.
Oh boy, those temperatures, really are going to help my wallet. As long as the card stays cool and doesn't overheat that's all that matters but I just can't get into the hole my GPU has to be as cool as it can be
What do you mean entry level 5080…? It’s a 5080 no? It’s just a different housing with no proof of better “air flow” … that’s more about your case
I mean in the 5080 class, it’s an entry level model. The Astral would be a premium or enthusiast model. The TUF Gaming would be the middle option.
Personally i like the design of the strix more so it was a letdown they werent making a 5080 and 5090 version ngl 😢
I'm just glad I could bios flash my 4070 ti super to the strix oc bios lol.
Haha no way! That’s awesome!
@ErockOnTech yeah lol. It's pretty awesome because it basically matches a 4080.
@@gatgat00tweed78Wow that’s amazing!
@@gatgat00tweed78I’ve never tried that before. How safe is it?
I bought new and still have an Asus Strix 5600xt. The best built (Overbuilt) and cool running card that I've ever owned.
Given Strix history was higher end offering from Asus, I think it should at least be offered in the 5080 series. Especially If the goal now to make Astral the flagship I believe it should be designated to the 5090. I will need to wait on reviews for the 5070 Ti strix to pair with my B850-F MB.
That’s a fair point. Strix for 80 and Astral for 90. Not a bad idea.
Building a sff hoping I can stick with asus as card choice.
Price $$$😉?
✌🏻🖕🏼👌🏻👌🏻 dollar
I want to get a 5090 Astral now
Finally BTF infos thank you so much
NGL the whole ROG branding never sold me. All I ever saw "ROG Strix" as, is expensive branding with no actual benefit to the user.
I just looked, it's there.
End of an era, I guess.
As an AMD user I'd never buy ASUS card and I would get Sapphire or Power Color Red Devil any day over anything ASUS. For NVidea I'd probably risk it with Gigabyte Gaming OC card, definitely not MSI or overpriced ASUS.
Prepare your wallet and pay 20/30% extra to have the privilege if you want an ASUS graphics card... Again
Too bad asus doesn't do amd
They do. They will offer the AMD 9070 and 9070 XT.
I plan to buy Strix 5070 Ti. I like the look of Strix this generation.
They literally just renamed it to rog astral
Yes Strix branding is being replaced with Astral
AMD are using Strix a little on the Strix Halo products and that might be a factor but I think thats coincidence as they are naming them badly with ai max random numbers + more bullshit
Get ready to pay $3000 plus for these cards
Yeah but you could still sell your 4090 for pretty much MSRP or better once the reviews come out and people realize it’s still better than the 5080.
them not making a strix 5090 is the biggest sellout. the astral design looks terrible. im not a fan of the added fan design it looks so bad 😭the strix design is so much better and i refuse to get an astral just to get a 5090.
i cant be the only one that thinks the added fan on the astral looks awful 💀
@@demon0.5the strix cards look very childish, cheap and plastic now. And the Astral looks absolutely amazing. If i could choose id choose not to have the 4th fan on the backplate side, but it is what it is. Card still looks great. 2nd best in the Msi SuprimX.
ROG Strix has always been the more budget but still priced up there gamer focused line. The 5070/TI is more the average gamer card.
ROG Strix are literally the most expensive consumer GPUs. Perhaps you meant ASUS TUF?
Duh.
This video is not even needed. It's a cash grab in and of itself.
We memed too much about Strix Tax so they'll just changing branding. Strix is going away slowly.
Wow i said the same thing when i saw the strix. I said look at that plastic wtf
That would be stupid
STRIX is like your bald (shiny) . ASTRAL is the way to go ,much better design and cooling .
That’s the first bald comment I’ve gotten in a while. Nice. 😊
Asus fanboy Erock. I dont worm for Asus..but i would love to..🎉
Ah there it is. The inevitable comment I fully expected to receive. I’m not sure how sharing information on upcoming GPUs is being a fanboy. Also, if any other company is willing to talk with me, I will happily share their information as well. Would you rather not have this information?
"I don't work for Asus" (but I shill for them) 😄

LOL why is anyone buying anything from ASUS after all the crap they pulled? Seriously there are other partners anyone buying ANYTHING from ASUS is nuts.
ThankYou!
Crap! I just received my water cooler for the astal!!! Fck!
i almost never buy Asus becouse i think they are like Scalpers offer way to high prices vs what nvidia show on the Screen after that than the store put even more on top of the profit so no ty
So what do you usually buy then?
@@ErockOnTech gigabyte they are often cheaper an they are doing a good job also with motherboards an so on
4 fans, stupid!
at these prices, who cares?
DONT CARE
I just hope I could get a 5080 Astral below 1400USD
I think the simple reason is because the strix are too expensive to make and just wasn't worth the extra money.
