      Never use an angle grinder to buff a vehicle, they spin way to fast and you will cut through the clear coat in an instant. Buffers look like angle grinders but spin much slower

    A couple of days before your first midget episode I had one come to live in my garage for the next couple of years until it’s able to be placed on historic rego. It’s the father in-laws and is apparently the first midget imported and complied in Australia. Asked him a bit more about it and it turns out he used to import and comply them for years. If you guys run into any issues let me know and I’m happy to fire some questions his way on your behalf.

    i think the cable ties in the back could have been used as tie down points for nets, having them big keeps things adjustable and easy to use. it didnt look like there were many/any small hook points, nets usually have pretty small hooks. just a thought.

    These are so weird! The interior is really asymmetric. The rear view mirror in not in the middle, the head unit is on the wrong side, if you want to get out on the passenger(?) side you will cop a gearstick knob right where you don't really want it. Quirkiness aside though, I have to say it's a cute little bugger!

    • @toypop96
      @toypop96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two seater versions are even weirder; only available as a column shift auto since a manual would be awkward with the gearstick between the passenger’s legs, and the second seat is literally just a little stool grafted on to the end of the driver’s seat. Would be very cosy to say the least.

    I use the Ryobi DA (Dual action) polisher myself. They are a little different from a more traditional polisher in that they have 2 actions. Both small orbits and rotation. Highly recommend

    As classic Minis run 10s, I’d highly recommend Yokohama A008 or A032 tyres. Awesome grippy rubber and Japanese so perfect for the Midget.

    Regarding the cable ties in the tub, I reckon they were put there to make it easier to put a cargo net on. Slightly longer hook reach n such.

    A lawnmower engine might be the equivalent of an LS-Swap.
    This is a fun little project. Can't wait to see it tracked!!

    Zip ties in the back could have been holding on a pool noodle for a 'budget bumper' so that things aren't smacking into the metal bars in the tray?

    For the panel clips how about some shaped ABS and plastic weld new tabs on with a soldering iron.

    If you can't find those side skirts in JP (or locally) you could easily fix them by chopping off all the tabs (all remaining 3) and have Marty make a surround piece out of stainless, that hits all 4 points, then glue the cover as a fascia over it with a little bit of epoxy. I've done this many times with panels like these (battery boxes, oil service doors). It's a very durable repair that doesn't look bad either when you take it off. I usually make these "skeletons" out of 3 mm stainless steel wire, it's easy to bend and has more than enough structure to support a part five times the size of your parts.
