    As the boys got bigger and smarter, one of them figured out how to pull the pin that locks the gate. I changed the pin idea to a bolt. I placed an insert nut in the hole and then used a bolt that screws into the insert nut to lock the gate shut. I think it will be quite awhile before the boys figure out/have the ability to unscrew the bolt (LOL). Here is a link to an insert nut similar to the one that I used.

    Excellent job. Thanks for sharing. I personally would have put slats vertically to prevent climbing. But very nice. Looks great.

      Yep, that would have been harder to climb. Our boys never climbed over!

    The first diy gate video I came across with actual directions and not over manufactured. Thank you!

    This is great! We would have to make ours taller and the boards would have to be really close together as our boys would be climbing over it 😬

    It is a good solution for doggie gate too! I'll make mine taller for my dog is tall. Thanks for good simple idea, I like not having to worry about hinges! This could be done even on regular width doorways too! Love the idea!

    I wonder if smaller horizontal mounted casters would work instead of weather stripping with screw.

    Horizonal running boards that low is not going to hold them through my experiences....I like the idea and diy design though! I would just make it taller with vertical planks to not create a ladder for them. My 1 year old would be over that in a min. Dude thinks he is going to Ninja warrior and/or prepping for shtf

    Ok I love this!!!! But I need one for an outdoor space to keep my grandkids from falling down the stairs. I want to know how to split it and make two that lock in the middle so when coming and going you can unlock half and go through then lock it up... I guess I need to brainstorm how to attach it to the porch railing???? Any idea?? Thanks

      Hi! just built my gate. It turned out amazing! It's identical to yours except I made mine with 7 boards instead of 4 because I wanted it taller. It works great, too! Thanks again! :)

    What about using barn door roller guide for the top instead of the L arm bracket?

    • @projectswithsteve
      @projectswithsteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That could work, although I don’t think you need something that beefy.

    Do they climb up it?

    • @projectswithsteve
      @projectswithsteve  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It took a very long time for one to figure out how to climb it, the second boy never did.

  • @paulstradley9157

    My gate wants to lean toward the wall at the top and “walk” out at the bottom every time I use it. It won’t vertically straight. Any ideas?

    • @projectswithsteve
      @projectswithsteve  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Where I have the brackets on the wall to create a guide for the gate, I used foam weatherstripping to create a spacer so that the top does not lean toward the wall. I don’t have an issue with the bottom kicking out. Maybe try a different wheel that has more grip to it. Good luck.

      The horizontal boards would provide climb over assistance.

  • @ashleybeach3710

    It looks like a baby ladder 😂 have they figured that out, yet?

    • @projectswithsteve

      It took them years to figure it out. They figured out how to unlock it way quicker than climbing over it!!

    How long before the allen wrench was lost? Lol

    • @projectswithsteve

      They figured out how to remove the Allen wrench. I changed to a bolt that you screw in. They still haven’t figured that one out, lol

    Tie a string to Allen wrench to the l bracket so it doesn’t disappear lol

    • @projectswithsteve
      @projectswithsteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I later switched it to a bolt that I screw in, instead of an Allen wrench, once the boys figured how to pull the Allen wrench out.
