Arnold: "So the question everyone really wants to know with regards to this guitar-" Me: (very excited) "Does it-" Arnold: "-how does-" Me: "-how does it-" Arnold: "-the thing sound?" Me: "Dje- oh. Right yeah, how does it sound? Of course. That's what I was gonna say..."
I get the djent thing but it is tight with definition while being low. About 9:00 in it just sounds like strings flopping on the fret board with no real key.
alternate tunings and possibly higher sounds on some everything dosent necesarily have to all go low an all is a to g with flats and sharps minus e sharp and a sharp of course i could probaby see myself with 11 and 12 if the made them beyond that personally maybe good for someone elses hands if and only if my hand can handle that much board
The track for this one is amazing! Totally makes me see 10 string usage as a serious tool. Don't think I'd personally ever reach for one first, but you show that if people don't just go "A lower string to 0101010100101000101 on!" Serious potential is there
Great review. Imo, RondoMusic/Agile has really improved their quality control over time, and now they make ridiculously good guitars, for a great price point. I just recently picked up an Agile Legacy 727, (my first seven string in fact) and I have to say, I was blown away by how well made it was, and how good it sounded with the stock pups, for only $320.
Great review! I'm a HUGE fan of Agile guitars. I've purchased three of them (two 7-strings and a multi-scale 8-string) and absolutely love them, and my experience with Rondo has always been outstanding. I did replace the pickups on each of mine with "upgraded" Seymour Duncan or Lace pickups, but honestly there is a "shoot-out" video somewhere on TH-cam where the Cepheus (Agile stock) passive pickups really outshine. Thanks for the great video!
"could be a little bit more articulate on the really low notes" understatement of the century. loved how this thing sounded except on the lowest string to each their own though
This thing sounds freaking great. I'm having fun just hearing the thing. Not only does it sound heavy and great, it sounds fun to play. It also sounds like you were passionate in what you were playing.
I don't know if anyone else is bothered by this, but I'll give my suggestion. Try to level the volume of your voice and the guitar volume. Guitar sounds much louder then when you talk. Love your reviews tho :)
I had an Agile 7 string a few years ago. The only issue I had with it was the nut was loose when I got it. Awesome tone, awesome neck, great frets and beastly ass pick-ups.
After using a Septor 930 for a while and picking up a custom set of strings from Kalium for it, I can say with confidence that .118 is the perfect gauge for the low C# string. So .130 will probably be sufficient for the G#
Brooooooo! That intro gave me goosebumps, ripped apart my car stereo and rained brutes through my speakers. Heaviest shit I've heard in years. Nice One 🎉❤
Might need to buy one of these things. Was originally gonna buy a Schecter Hellraiser C9, but hearing this thing, knowing it’s $350+ cheaper, and an extra string, I’m changing my mind.
Personally, I don't think anything past 8 strings sounds very good. the strings just lose any quality timbre. However, this actually sounded good, and I think that says something about how well you play.
@@wirtsleg340 Only if you go the usual really low route. I would personally be tuning the strings a bit higher and most likely using the clean channel most of the time.
My friends has an Agile 8 string that he bough pre owned and I really like it. Sucks you've had bad past experiences with them. Agile really makes some great, affordable guitars in my opinion.
I bought an intrepid 828. It came with the stock passive pickups which I hated, but once I swapped them out and cleaned it up, it became my favorite guitar
Cool Devin Townsend Project shirt. (and cool vid!) I've been considering a 10 string to play with 2 hand tap, this model is definitely on my radar. The fret buzz, unlevel high b should be easily fixable (saddle adjustments), the unlevel nut tho... I can probably fix. IF I buy one and it has those issues.
I'm really suprised! I thought it was just going to be some muddy mess but damn... that actually sounds pretty awesome! I really liked the clean intro too. Keep up the awesome work man!
Thanks Arnold, that was an interesting review. Nice to see some positive things from the Agile camp. Not sure if I'm ready for a 10 string though... I 'm still having fun with a 6 and 7 :)
I have an Agile Septor 827. Bought it used from guitar center at $200. I was definitely pleasantly surprised at the quality. I had a couple of my extended range friends try it out and they all swore that it was in the $700-$800 range.
I have LOVED my Agiles - the build quality and playability are outstanding, and I have always had an outstanding customer service experience from Rondo. They are truly outstanding instruments. (Disclaimer - I have only owned their highest-end models, and I think their lower-end stuff is maybe not so good, based on what I've seen in Guitar Center. But the models I've owned have been simply outstanding.)
William L The only downside I'd say is the stock pickups. I personally haven't tried one but I have an Agile pendulum pro82527 which is amazing. But from what I've heard about tons of reviews is the pickups are pretty bad but those are easy to swap out anyway. You can get the 350$ model and throw bare knuckles in there and it'd only be 600$ still lol. But I'd say agile are the best ERGs you get for your money. Specifically 8s
Great to see this review! I have to agree about how surprising the Agiles are. I have the equivalent 8-string and it's a fantastic instrument for all the same reasons as mentioned here. The only issue for me was tightness in my left hand after a couple of months of daily playing, which is to do with my technique rather than the guitar. For under a grand, it's amazing.
Very cool Guitar, you could play Telephone by Lady Gaga on it by Tuning the instrument to G0 Standard (Eb Standard on the top 6 plus Bb, F, C, & G on the bottom 4).
Correct. The Rondo website says it's supposed to be EADBEADGBE with the last three functioning as a bass register...but I just didn't see how that could be more fun than playing it in standard.
Hey Arnold, you might want to reduce the hiss during the talk section. I've watched your previous videos and it has less noticeable hiss when comparing to this one. Great review!
Great review as always and that intro song was fucking sick, the bells were a great touch. It's going to be very hard to get any instrument with those scale lengths and string gauges to not buzz, specially when everyones wants super low action and the neck to be as straight and flat as possible. The only way to do it is to raise the strings and put a bow in the neck and I'm pretty sure nobody wants to do that. Although its not a bad idea on the lower register so you can really dig into the bass strings. But then that makes it harder to slap and pop, it's a constant search and I haven't found many guitars yet that do it all and I build them.
I had an Interceptor Pro 727 (w/ 707s), and still own my AL3100 and have yet to play a Gibson that comes close to the Agile, for my preferences anyway, I also like that the 3100 weighs nearly 12lbs. I couldn't get into the 27" scale, and prefer to drop tune a 6 string. Recently played an Ibanez 9 string ($800 CDN) which was a decent guitar build wise but I couldn't get into it, I also didn't know what to do with the 8th and 9th string. It was fun on the clean channel, but after 22yrs of six stringers anything above seven requires a different approach/technique.
Great video! I have to say if you could add a recording of some room noise back in or fiddle with your mic compression or gate it would be nice, the mic audio dropping off whenever you're not talking was a little distracting.
you don't fuck around when it comes to opinions Arnold . she looks like a very decent guitar for the money and more . haven't played an Agile since '03 . now they seem to have upped their game , at least on this model . have a similar footrest . use it everyday . love that little beauty .
Have you considered doing an unbiased review of your Dingwall NG2? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it when compared to, say, a Brice Defiant 53437 or maybe one of the Ibanez/ESP LTD fanned fret basses. Also, what do you think about the neck profile? I've been wanting a 9 string/30 inch 8 string for a while (gotta get that low C#-A c h u g g) and Agile seems like one of the best in the market.
A lot of folks ask for the Dingwall and one of these days I will finally get around to it. I seriously have a list of about 20-30 things for upcoming videos, whether they be gear reviews, cover songs, etc. I just need to get off my ass and get to it, lol. Also, I really liked the neck profile because it was super flat, and for the extended low range that works super well.
I have a 7-string Interceptor Pro, and I am in love with it still after 5 or 6 years now. Same with my 6-string Agile Hawker. Got both the same day. Glad to hear some good words about something as unnecessary as this 10-string model.
The 10th string seems to be overkill, though I'd be perfectly happy with 9. A well-used 9-string guitar gives you a cornucopia of possibilities, while this guitar's 10th string sounds like not much more than static noise when distorted. Still a nice axe for sure :)
I got it in both 8 and 10 strings. Pretty much like said. Fret jobs ok. I'm working on finding a bigger lower string. I think that would help lower note clarity. Original setup was terrible but once setup that thing is so cool.
Killer review, Arnold! I grabbed an Agile Pendulum Pro 82527 after deciding not only to buy my 1st 8 string, but also to satisfy my curiosity in the multiscale design, without a major custom shop investment. I too was pleasantly surprised with the quality considering the low cost. I did have fret finish work done, but it was well worth the extra scratch! Keep on rockin, Brother!!!
I definitely like that you mentioned the issue with the gauges. If you swap the gauges for something thicker it would most likely get rid of some of the clarity issues you mentioned about the pickups. The pickups might not actually have issues with the low end is kinda what I'm getting at. Those low strings need to be thicker. Think about comparing them to a bass scale. Do some math with the Kalium calculator too. It'll give you a decent bassline (haha baseline GET IT) for where your tensions need improvement. THE ONE THING I NOTICED... and I think you slightly mentioned was that the nut was awkward. You can visibly see the difference in the gap between the 9th and 10th strings. If someone says, "that's necessary because of the low tuning" or something like that... get thicker strings. Make them less floppy so they'll be consistent. I'd consider replacing the nut, but the bridge looks like it's lined up the same, so it's probably a lost cause.
Not sure how I haven't seen any of your videos before, but I'm definitely Subscribed now! I owned a Agile 8 String before with one previous owner, it was surprisingly good, same as a lot of the pros you mentioned. Sold it for a 6 string I couldn't pass up though haha. Low G# is fucking nuts!! Didn't sound as muddy as I thought. It's funny on my Squier Bass VI I have it in Drop G# an octave up using lighter strings and I love how it sounds, so clear. AN Octave down though, I might mess with it for fun hahaha. Really like the style of reviews man, well spoken and great demos! Keep it up! :)
Add a D# string below that and we're below 20Hz. That should get us covered nicely. That G# string swings at 26Hz. Using a hearing test software, I find I start losing the sense of pitch below 35Hz (that's the 9th string, btw). I hear a rumble at 26 and a louder rumble at 30. What I hear of these low strings are their overtones.
The perfect electric guitar is the one you can't put down, as opposed to some instrument that might be so proprietary to the person that helped created it to the point you can't use for anything else;
This is a fun video, and that's an intensely low string. I've been impressed with everything I've gotten and seen from Rondo thus far. I thought it might be cool to get one of Rondo's 10 strings scaled 25"-28" in hopes to put a super light gauge string on the high E and tune it up to A (I imagine anything longer than 25.5" might be prone to snapping such a thin string). The three remaining low strings would be tuned like normal, B, F#, and C#. It would be cool to experiment with, especially for tapping and larger chords . . . But realistically I don't know if I'd ever end up using such a thing. Until then, I'll just stick with my Kiesel Vader 8, it's all the guitar I need. :)
Eeeey, you like Týr?! I serviced their guitars couple of months ago, that LA Custom and Japan Custom Ibanez guitar are one of the best Ibanez I've ever seen. Nice to see bands from the homecountry on youtube :D
I absolutely love my Agile Pendulum Pro 8-String. I got it in Ocean Burst and it's the absolute most beautiful looking and playing guitar I've ever owned. The only downside is: A. getting used to the fanned frets, when playing above the 12th fret. ...and B. Doing that without inlays on the fretboard. I bought it in July and I'm still not used to it.
I've had 5 different Agiles over the years with very good experiences with them. 4 of them were absolutely great with no problems and one was just kinda ok. I took them on the road with me and they were surprisingly great workhorse instruments. They also sound ridiculously good in the studio and superior to my 2 one-off customs. Highly recommend to check them out, especially if you get a good deal second hand.
I personally thought it sounded awesome! The way you played it and the arrangements actually worked. It just takes a little getting used to. I think the 10 string is going to get more popular in the metal world. Great demo! 👍🏻👍🏻 raise the action a little on the low strings.
thank you for your review. I have been playing 7 string for 16 years, 8 string for 4 years and 9 for a year. I believe I will go that route and get a 10 string.
Would the 7 string model be good for Devin Townsend-style playing? Also, does the fanned fret layout help with the wider necks on the 8-10 string models?
Custom Agile Guitars is worth the money and the waiting. Mine took 4 - 5 months before i get it. They do mine very well no buzz and no rough frets on the sides good emg pickups good tuners and bridge and nice paint. S. Korea Made
Looks like you just convinced me. It will be my next one too. I have a C-9 and love playing it. But I also have a CH8 with the fan frets and even if i'm not using it much, I feel like I wouldn't want a traditional fret board anymore. My main scare with Agile is also the fret job. Like you said, not commonly great. Thanks for having covered that topic!
I think I got an Agile interceptor pro 727 in '08 and they were already doing 8 strings then from 25.5, 27, 28 and 30 inch scale, and I think 9string by end of 2010. Certainly ahead of the mainstream. I tried an Ibanez 9 string which felt like a different instrument, I didn't like it at all, there's a learning curve which I can respect and appreciate.
Arnold do you still have this? I’m debating between this and the new Ibanez iron label 9 string ( FYI a review of that would be awesome!!) I live in canada and both guitars will end up costing me the same thing. Appreciate your videos and any thoughts you have on the agile/Ibanez debate raging in my head
thank you for making this video.i've been searching for 10 strings demo.but if i could afford to buy that guitar,i would play more with funky clean fingerstyle.thanks man
You gotta get some lights. It's sometimes hard to see what you are describing on the guitar because the lighting is is so low in contrast to the light coming from the window behind you.
Hey got a question bub, What kind of pick up should I get for 8 string I'm about to.purchase that will give me great Note definition on my F# and B strings but yet have nice shredding ass distortion and can get some great low string squiels out of it? I'm not sure if I should go active or passive. I had 7 string Invaders in my old Ibanez 7 really liked them well. Just curious wat you think. My playing style is inspired by Chuck Schuldiner, James MURPHY, and bands like DEATH, DISINCARNATE, BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE, CARCASS, to name few. I don't do that djent shit which I don't acknowledge as a genre! Tell that to MESSUGAH,Fear Factory ,Grave, etc....from early 90's. They were writing that type shit before the guitar geeks who named a metal style after a French breakfast biscuit was a sperm swimmer in their daddies left nut! Sorry had to vent!! So yeah what would you suggest? I do breakdowns like SUFFOCATION and HATEBREED as well. Just wouldn't mind your thoughts with your knowledge on the gear these days cause I ended up selling my stuff and am getting ready to start back up after about a 5 year hiatus . Thanks bro love your videos man.
As both a guitarist and bassist, I could really see this being good tuned up on the lowest four to E-A-D-G and using it as a fusion of both instruments. E-A-D-G-E-A-D-G-b-e. Less rattle and dead tone, and the overlap on the low D and G helps with the fact that this bastard can't be reasonably capo'd. It would also open up for Seraph Harp style harmonies using the low notes as open roots, or as drone strings for ambience. The only drawback would be the inability to separately output the low and high sides for better tonal variation: effects that work on guitar don't work well on bass, and vice versa. Overall, an interesting beast, but I think I'd be better with a double neck bass-guitar hybrid if I was going for the "all-in-one" route.
Awesome guitar, awesome review and overall your videos are just great. One suggestion, though, and I hope you don't take it as bad criticism is: try and remove the hiss, because you've got a lot in your voice, and it can destroy an entire song. Keep the videos coming! :D
agile makes some sick guitars for the best price out there if you want an extended range instrument. i had an agile septor elite 727 and it was a very good guitar. no flaws whatsoever with the finish, the only things that i could say that are negative were the low b string would go out of tune easily but i just tuned it up when i played it and mine came stock with blackouts which i did not care for but the craftsmanship was equal to a schecter hellraiser 7 or ibanez iron label 7 string which go for 3-400 dollars more.
Hey, love the honest reviews. Is there any chance you'll be reviewing the new Cort KX508 MS? It has pretty decent pickups and looks good, but i can't find anything online. Thank you for the effort you put in to make these videos!
TRUE DJENT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED
didn't djent at all .
Mark Skell, thats why this dounded so good
It dounded dery dad

definitely
I believe wankery has gone too far.
Whenever that question is asked, the answer is always yes.
Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.
No. It has gone too low to be able to hear a musical tone- just distorted strings flopping on frets.
i think you've discovered the brown note, cause my shorts are quite full.
Not mine get a 12 string but not the doubles up string
I guess now we know why almost no one goes beyond 9

I also enjoy playing guitar barefoot.

The stocks are 1:1 lundgren replicas, per the Sevenstring.org guys. Mine sounded just fine.
Definitely not 1:1 Lundgren. SSO isn't a reliable source.

Yeah it seemed a little weird to me, too. Maybe cool for jazz chords or something, but I'm sure most people who buy this guitar just want it to dj0nt
Oooooh. If that's the case then the string gauges were probably selected for that tuning rather than standard all the way down
I love the way the tuning sounds...
@@ArnoldPlaysGuitar I imagine that tuning could be interesting for the tappy and slappy thumpy style like Sarah Longfield and Tosin Abasi
Love all you reviews dude! major reason which confirmed my want to buy a boden 8 and she is a dream

This is so low you literally can only hear the overtones to the lowest string it's ridiculous I love it
you don't fuck around when it comes to opinions Arnold . she looks like a very decent guitar for the money and more . haven't played an Agile since '03 . now they seem to have upped their game , at least on this model .
have a similar footrest . use it everyday . love that little beauty .
You're awesome. Great review and great playing.
I have bought 2 guitars directly from Rondo (Agile Septor Elite 7 and 8 string) and they have been amazing. Great review
Musicman61554 hey know this comment is a few years old but what are the stock agile pickups like?
Awesome review - the song you wrote is great! Also love the Chuck Shuldiner Stealth in the background
Just posted the video: th-cam.com/video/d5QyOD4pmys/w-d-xo.html
The amount of strings you need on a guitar = number of guitars you need = MOAR
this channel deserves more attention, love your videos man
30 inches is quite literally a short scale bass. Insane
I want to see you review the Music Man Majesty. Its basically the perfect electric guitar and I'd love to hear your opinion on it.
Jonathan Sefcik I digress, the frets could be bigger. other than that, damn!!!
The perfect electric guitar is the one you can't put down, as opposed to some instrument that might be so proprietary to the person that helped created it to the point you can't use for anything else;
A friend of mine who also was a bandmate of mine has a 7 string Majesty, didn't really impress me
This is a fun video, and that's an intensely low string. :)
I am surprised that you liked an Agile guitar. I might get one myself now.
Eeeey, you like Týr?!
I serviced their guitars couple of months ago, that LA Custom and Japan Custom Ibanez guitar are one of the best Ibanez I've ever seen.
Nice to see bands from the homecountry on youtube :D
Epic review, but holy shit that song, I need that on my phone! can I get it anywhere?
LILLY!!!
thank you for your review. I have been playing 7 string for 16 years, 8 string for 4 years and 9 for a year. I believe I will go that route and get a 10 string.
A lot of people cant get it to sound right. But you listen to. The track "Sun eater" by Fractalize it sounds tight.
The classic wife or girlfriend walks in with shock that your finally playing something mellow & nice
S. Korea Made
jesus christ 10 strings
Looks like you just convinced me. It will be my next one too. I have a C-9 and love playing it. But I also have a CH8 with the fan frets and even if i'm not using it much, I feel like I wouldn't want a traditional fret board anymore. My main scare with Agile is also the fret job. Like you said, not commonly great. Thanks for having covered that topic!
I DON'T PLAY THIS KIND OF GUITAR BUT I LOVE LISTENING TO THIS GUY PLAY!
Dude that jam was amazing
Why don't you just get a harbassiano?
Nah, but get BKP or SD to make a 10 set and this think could be pretty killer
Bro you are an incredible player!! awesome review!!
Personally i have ibanez rg7 and i have no real problum with fret ends
Good luck mabye?
