    CASE DETAILS
    In 1977, Leslie Guthrie (29) picked up her two children, Timothy who was 3-years-old at the time, and Julie, who was 5-years-old from their father's home on Grandview Avenue in Katona, New York around 1:30 P.M. on February 5.
    Leslie was separated from the children's father, Timothy Sr., and living with her mother in White Plains, New York.
    Leslie was supposed to pick up her mother later that day from IBM in White Plains, NY where her mother worked but never arrived.
    Timothy Sr. wasn't concerned when Leslie didn't return that evening because he assumed she and the children had spent the night in White Plains.
    He reported them missing the following evening at 6:00 p.m. on February 6.
    Authorities have ruled out Timothy Sr. as a suspect in Leslie, Julie, and Timothy Jr.'s cases;
    Timothy Sr. has cooperated fully with the investigation and also hired a private investigator and spent considerable time and money trying to locate his family himself.
    He has since left the state of New York.
    There were no indications that Leslie had planned to walk out of her life; she hadn't taken any clothing or personal belongings with her and didn't withdraw any substantial sum of money from her bank account prior to her disappearance.
    Her mother died in 1994; in her obituary, it says Leslie survived her.
    The circumstances of the Guthrie family's disappearance are unclear, and their vehicle has never been recovered.
    THEIR CASE REMAINS UNSOLVED
    We are humbled by the opportunity all of you have given us to help in searches like this one for answers as to where the Guthrie family may be, with new answers after our search as to where they are not.

      eBay is a good place to get a basic side scan sonar, at about 300 dollars can get a decent used one. Another 3 or 4 hundred can get a decent inflatable raft. A quick trip to the junk yard for a cheap used car battery, then look at garage sales for a trolling motor... I've gotten a few people started out that way...

    I use to do vehicle recovery during snow storms, never say if a vehicle went off the road during a snow storm or even after a snow storm that someone would see it. You would be surprised at how many vehicles are not found until the snow melts.

    • @eledatowle8767
      @eledatowle8767 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      So true! Several years ago in N Conway, NH, a woman sadly went through or over a snowbank, off the road, down about 15' of steep incline to the woodline after dark... Only about 500 feet from a busy Walmart and even closer to a busy supermarket. No one noticed the wreck until the next day and she had passed away before she was found. Plus, AWP just found that gentleman who accidentally went off a bridge into a river during bad weather and had been missing three years. I wouldn't call anyplace "searched and cleared" until sonar (and hopefully magnetometer) have checked it.

    • @fayturner6877
      @fayturner6877 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The rationale of ruling a situation out with the assumption of: 'being clear because someone would have seen it occur in very bad weather', is illogical.
      Very bad weather generally has... (what??) ..... reduced visibility! You guys are experts on reduced visibility and what it does to visualising the surrounds.
      Now snow I have never significantly been involved with but I have been driving in torrential rain that led to extremely reduced visibility. (Actually it did include a minor car accident too, with the other vehicle at fault.)
      I think the areas where someone is presumed to have been able to see a possible accident in bad weather, should be checked.

    • @pixelapocrypha
      @pixelapocrypha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's probably they were looking for the most likely and most feasible to search spots because, and I may be wrong, but don't they only have so much time in a given location before they have to move on to the next case? If they come back another time I wouldn't be surprised if they search it just in case, they've done similar before.

    • @Cherubi-chan
      @Cherubi-chan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, people are more likely to postpone driving if there's a snow storm, so less possible witnesses to an accident.

    • @ello_verity7667
      @ello_verity7667 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True, but I understood their comments to mean that the wreck would have been found in the time following the accident (even if it was after the snow melted), as opposed to “there would have been eyewitnesses “.

    What suprises me the most about the conditions under water in the lakes, ponds and rivers that you search, is the lack of visibility in the water you literally can't see a foot in front of you. What has happened to all of our waterways? Has the pollution gotten so horrible that you can't see anything below the surface of the water anymore? I don't know how the fish can even exist in it. I remember 50 years ago the water was clean enough to see the bottom. I'm shocked how bad it is today.

    • @airbubble.
      @airbubble. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not so much the rivers, but a lot of these bodies of water are "standing", rather than having a flowing current. Ponds especially, and smaller lakes and reservoirs. Chuck in a lot of natural waste such as foliage and so on, and it all breaks down to form that foggy dense sediment, which doesn't tend to clear very well, because of the lack of current.
      Rivers however tend to clear themselves better, the faster the current runs and the bigger they are. They tend to get murkier after storms and so on with the increase in debris, but will clear eventually especially towards the surface. Go deeper and the current slows,and debris sinks so you get the sediment again.
      Hope that makes sense.

    • @Cherubi-chan
      @Cherubi-chan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some human causes for poor visibility that come to mind are 1) runoff nutrients from agriculture and 2) chopping down forests and vegetation leading to precipitation picking up more soil as it flows to water bodies unhindered. But some bodies of water are of course more murky by default and those might show up more often on this channel since cars in clear waters could have been seen before AWP got there.

    I'm from Ireland been following g you guys for a few mths. People are very grateful for what your doing. And need to keep spreading the word that way more law inforcement officers can understand and spread the word to different police forces in different states what you guys are doing. Some of the videos that I've watched show that some police forces see you as a nuisance making them do work that they havnt been bothered with. You are giving people closure that they have been waiting on for years and they need to understand that first of all. So Police be a help to the guys. After all its them that's helping you find people who are lost

You are both ABSOLUTELY AMAZING INDIVIDUALS doing what you do for all the Loved ones you have found which would give some peace to them. They can now have the appropriate Funerals so that the deceased can rest in peace. God Bless the both of you and keep you safe from harm. It's almost 3 in the morning and I can't put my IPad down. May God be with the both of you. I wish I could meet you both so day, but not to find any of my Loved ones. I will continue watching everything you put on UTUB. Thank You , Joanne

    one thing to consider when searching for vehicles that came up missing in winter, the snow plows push the snow from the road up against the guard rails, which make a slick ramp that will allow cars to slide right over the rail because the packed snow usually is packed up over or the same height as the rail that would normally stop a vehicle from going over. I live in Texas and cars fly over guard rails every winter here because the snow plows push the snow bank up against the rails which makes a smooth, slick ramp over the rails.

    Gotta say these videos hit different when you recognize the locations being searched. I went to college in Westchester and worked for IBM in Armonk. The roads in the area always sketched me out. Those winding parkways often still don't have drainage and hydroplaning is common. Lots of waterways and reservoirs all through that area as well.

    Hey AWP! Bless your team for the humble service you provide to families of lost loved ones. One note for Carson: The documentaries are better than ever, great work. I understand why the reenacted newscast audio at the beginning of the videos is necessary when you have none available, however, actual newscasters will not pause for dramatic effect as the last two videos have edited; authenticity will win people over better than dramatization every day, so the reenactments should be spoken faster and with less compassion and drama (in order to match the authentic sound of real world newscasting). Love the work guys! As a fisherman in Tennessee, I keep the sonar on at every boat ramp!
