  • In-depth review of the Shimano RX8 "Gravel" race shoe.
    Are gravel shoes any good? Are they good for UK riding or purely US style gravel roads?
    Shimano claim these are "FEATHERWEIGHT GRAVEL RACING SHOES"
    - Super stiff and lightweight carbon composite sole.
    - System engineered with SPD pedals for maximum pedaling efficiency and stability.
    - Lightweight, abrasion-resistant TPU lugs for the best balance of pedaling performance and off the bike capability.
    - Surround upper pattern provides the perfect balance of holding power and absolute all day comfort.
    - Boa® IP1 with dual micro adjustment function.

    Thanks for the vid. Convinced me to buy these. Have switched to gravel from road and having problems with the cheaper MTB shoes I already have. Had been worried about the for, but your vid helped me out a lot.

    thank you for the video! this confirmed my suspicion about the shoe, and made me sure that they are right for me as i use SPD pedals on my road bike which i will be racing this season.

    Thanks, wasn't sure how to release the boa dial and mine on!

    I know this vid is old, but I use these same shoes with the XTR pedals and they are amazing. my only complaint is that shimano shoes are notoriously skinny, and even the wide version arent quite wide enough in the toe for me (in size 48). I use them on zwift, on the road, on gravel. basically everywhere.

    Good point about being about the shoe being designed to have space to move cleat backwards. Wish more shoes had that feature. Have you done a video on shoes that are good for getting on & off bike on a regular basis because of gates and steep, steep hills? Thanks.

    I can't wait to get some for commuting on my road bike! Light weight is always better for shoes.

    what you think about the silver color... cannot decide if i want a classic white one (e.g. fizik overcurve x3) or the RX8 in silver

    thanks man for the review, it convince me not to buy and spent all my money on the RX-8 and buy the XC-5 instead and save some money for the bike upgrade haha

    What about cooling, are they well ventilated ?
    In summer my feets get hot with my current Fizik shoes :/
    Thanks for this honest review.

      Pretty good but not the coolest. I'd be looking at the mesh style fabric shoes that some companies including Fizik make if heat was a big issue.

    Hi there, super video thank you!
    Do you think the sizing is identical to the current high end Shimano road shoes (S-Phyre rc902 that is, which is a bit different than its predecessor)?

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the S-Phyre to compare to, unfortunately, but I believe they are essentially a road platform with a different sole with 2-bolt cleat support.

      @@MattPage OK, that makes sense. I will try the same size that suits me in the road version. Thanks for your advice!

    Hey mate, how do these compare with power output vs road shoes? Hoping for something I can use equally on road on gravel

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sole is effectively from a carbon road and as stiff. Just don't try walking far in them.

    Hello, i really enjoyed the videos, i need some help; i want to get this shoes but i am not not a gravel rider i'm usually a guy that likes to get his enduro gnarly lines but before i climb more than 5,000 ft of gain elevation, i want stiffness and confortability or really long rides yes still be able to send it in the chunk, can this shoes deliver it ? thank you very much!!

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So long as you don't expect to do any walking they might be ok. But if you expect to walk much, avoid these.

      @@MattPage a bit late, but would you say they're easier to walk on concrete than road shoes (SPD-SL etc.)? just for the cafe stops and stuff!

    • @MattPage
      @MattPage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@archiebobo yes, certainly better than road shoes.

    Perfect shoes for long distances, I went for the wide version as my feet are a little bit duck shaped and they are just perfect. I wear 10.5 US in regular shoes and went for 44 with these as the 45 were way too long.
