I will always consider True Strike as a viable option for rouges. Especially after I used True Strike to land a Nat 20 and decimate a door that was stopping us from getting inside a useless room.
Yeah, admittedly part of me thought "you can do this silently and use it to make sure that alpha strike sneak attack actually lands" though with how stealthy this guy is, I'd presume that needing to worry about staying unseen probably isn't a problem for them.

Episode #149 of the Fire Emblem stats: Sekiro. He has a lot of weapon proficiencies: swords, reason (the Flame Vent and Lightning Reversal), axes (the Loaded Axe), faith (the Shinobi Firecracker and the Mist Raven), and lances (the Loaded Spear). He isn't good at riding and flying because his arm is the only traversal tool he needs. He doesn't have much in the way of HP or defenses but is good at both types of offense and dexterity.
not gonna lie this would be a cool unit type, especially considering the whole perma death mechanic of fire emblem, it could be interesting seeing a unit with Sekiro's abilities. Just...not Sekiro himself. Unless I can S rank him.
Skyler Thompson ya, figured the Azure or Butterfly shurikens could be Eldritch blast. They’re really good in game items for bypassing boss defense to do health damage, but sadly they take up a lot of your spirit emblems.
Hey Tulok, I have a question about your videos. You kind of mentioned it here, but do you think you could add something to the screen that shows the total character level you're at, plus the multiclass level breakdowns? Like when you're talking about what to pick at level 15, show that but also show that the build is currently at fighter 10, Rogue 5 or whatever? If a player is looking at what to pick for their next level, it'd be good to know if some class threshold has already been hit (like Fighter 5 for Extra Attack), so they can decide if branching out to an MC level or going further in an existing class makes more sense for them.
Sekiro might have cool hair and fight a big gorilla (I've never played the game that's all I know) but Anderson Cooper... Does stuff... And has cool hair. Build him!

This might be just me, but just take Monk: Way of the Four Elements. Take increasingly powerful element techniques that any specific character could learn by the rules of bending, and use the free elemental shenanigans it gives you at third level for utility bending. Aang might be the only literal monk in the show, but the very concept of bending, and it's related spirituality, are Monk things in D&D.
Speaking of Soulsborne, I once made a Hunter build by doing 13 Swashbuckler, 7 Eldritch Knight. It was based off my own Hunter, which was an Arcane Build, but if you want you can probably swap out with Battle Master or Rune Knight. Second Wind is a good reflection of the Rally Mechanic. EDIT: Made some revisions, a valid alternative is 11 Swash, 3 Eldritch Knight, and 6 War Wizard, or if you want ASI over the so-so class feature, 12 Swash, 3 Eldritch Knight, 5 War Wizard, *or* 10 Swash, 5 Eldritch Knight, 5 War Wizard (If you really want that Extra Attack)

I tried a similar build but made it a combo of Arcane Trickster Rogue/Kensei Monk, with a revenant as a race. But this build definitely offers cool stuff too. Solid work man.
Sneak attack is once per turn, not once per round. If a Rogue gets to make an attack of opportunity against a target that would otherwise qualify for sneak attack, they can sneak attack because it's happening on a different turn.
Great job, Tulok! Awesome build that is instantly inspiring, AND the makers of the game owe you money. I had not heard of Sekiro before, and now I am willing to get it just for the aesthetics. It looks so cool! A fantasy jidai that looks and feels more Kurisawa, less anime. I haven't played it yet, but in building for character, you must have done this game proud.
Since we're talking about Soulslike game characters, how's about giving William from Nioh a shot sometime? I'd be very interested to see how you manage to get weapon mastery, demon slaying, onmyo magic, ninjutsu, guardian spirits *and* living weapons all in one build.
Interesting video! I was actually just thinking about the undying warlock for a sailor Saturn build, but since she uses a glaive, I wasn't really sure how to go about that. Other things to note, for goals: •She has the ability to heal wounds, •She died when she was a child, but was brought back to life •Her title is "the soldier of death and rebirth" •She has access to a magic shield •She is kind of a Glass Canon. Between experimental prosthetics, not fully recovering from being blown up, and having to host a separate entity that hates her, she doesn't get to do much physical activity, until the end, so her constitution is probably low •She probably has the lowest charisma of any scout, since her classmates think she is creepy, what with being part robot, and having healing powers, and the scouts hate her because she is a the nuclear option. I would love some help with this build.
Build suggestion: What about the Prince of Persia from the Sands of Time series? I'm frankly curious if there's a magic item or something that can be put into a dagger that allows you to screw with time, or barring that, allows you to effectively emulate that mechanically (for example, True Strike could theoretically have happened as a result of screwing up an attack, rewinding time, and then trying the attack again).

I would do a rogue or dex-fighter, don't really know which one would fit better, multiclassed 5 levels in chronolurgy wizard from EGTW and the lucky feat for even more time reversal shenanigans. And choosing spells like slow, haste and truestrike that simulate others time powers.
This was a fun build! I still really hope you'll be able to do Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles someday - maybe a Rune Knight with some fun multiclassing for some of the skills.
For flavor wins if you play this build, keep taking rogue levels until you die, only then take warlock levels. This means you might get very far as just a rogue. Or die at level 2 to the midboss. I would say misty step is similar to mist raven feather tool. It would line up with how little you can use it. And For pact weapon, you do get a poison shortsword for your arm so that also checks out.
This is actually along the lines I would expect in building Talion from Shadow of Mordor. He might be a ranger in-story, but his talents are incredibly rogue-like.
I feel like the zealot barbarian would be a more rp friendly ( since 3 levels makes dying literally just an inconvenience more than anything). Plus it will leave you open to using the 13th level thief Skill as an answer to using all the crazy "ninja arm gadgets".
True Strike on a Rouge actually makes sense. You hold back a turn, hide, and Sneak Attack with better odds for a Crit is a decent way to start an ambush.
What I think everyone forgets about true strike is that it can be cast on allies as well up to 30ft away if you are a buff caster this is the spell for you especially if you are a sorcerer with twin cast.
I really like this one! The Undying warlock is usually not appealing to me but it works well with this one. I would pick Eldrich Blast rather than true strike as a surrogate for the shuriken prosthetic.
Hey, I've got something that'll blue your mind! Thief Rogues can use items as a bonus action. Grappling hooks are actual items in D&D. Boom! Saved you a few warlock levels!

I really think you should try building some of the characters from Outlaw Star, it's fun anime you can probably binge multiple times in a day to get all the notes you need. And with 5 main cast members, 2 only 3 of which are primary, you'll have quite a few choices. Also, if you find yourself getting some Firefly vibes from the series, Outlaw Star came before that in the real world (Firefly is a 2002 series, Outlaw Star first aired in its English dub on Toonami back in 1998). Of course, you'll probably have to dip into the Critical Role content, something I don't think you've done yet, when it comes to the Gene Starwind, the primary protagonist of the series, seeing as he's not too shy about using firearms, especially when you take into account he has a gun that was specifically designed to shoot spells, so even if he doesn't have immediate access to spells he can still use them, they just need to loaded into special cartridges/shells that are specially designed to be used with the fancy gun that shoots magic. Aisha and Suzuka might be the most straightforward builds from the series, seeing as their abilities are pretty easy to translate to D&D with a bit less effort (Suzuka is even stated to be an Assasin in-series when we first meet her). Also, if we want to go with something a bit more base D&D-ish then I suggest That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, plenty of D&D-type stuff in the series. That said, the main protagonist of the series is literally a slime, an Ooze if we go by D&D terms, but it's all good because the Juiblixian-Slimes Just Want to Adventure supplement, which I've left a link to on a few past episode comments, will give you access to rules on making characters that are also slimes/oozes. Besides, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has a fun anime and manga in addition to being a light novel series.
Light Domain Cleric, 15 Str, 14 Wis, 13 Cha, 12 Con, 10 Dex, 8 Int, Variant Human, +1 Str and Dex, Weapon Master Feat(Only Time I've ever seen this be worthwhile), +1 Dex and proficiency with Shortswords, Longswords, Halberds, and Longbows(Just my picks). Dunno if this is what he would do, but it's how I would go about it.
I get that these builds never include magic items, but this one seems like it should be an exception. If you have a solid character concept a reasonable DM should let you flavor boots of striding and springing as a prosthetic grappling hook arm you got after your rival cut off your jack arm. With that three levels of undying warlock is all you need for this build to flourish. Just be sure to pick up pact of the tome for thorn whip.

I like everything you got here, but one nitpick. I feel like it would make much more sense thematically for your new spell when you take your 5th level in warlock to be Dispel Magic, not Counterspell. One of the items in the game (that actually comes somewhat in handy with a certain boss) allows you to dispel illusions in a short radius. It works exactly like dispel magic, except it only works for illusions. Also, in very late game, you get a prosthetic tool that is pretty much infinite of that item (your buddy Jake was using that item in the game footage so I thought it worth mentioning)
Worth mentioning, a year later: Custom Origin Reborn (UA) would be a better fit, I think, since it gives you advantage on death saves and prevents you from being poisoned- the latter one’s not totally accurate to gameplay but
I just went kensei monk with the revenant 'race' and called it a day. All of sekiro's gadgets are easily formed into fun magic items (if you talk to your GM about what you want - which usually works in my experience because I'm so charming) so you dont need to waste levels on spellcaster dips.
I've been waiting for this for quite a while. Wolf is a lot like a Dex version of Guts. Oh, and by the way, Sekiro literally just means one-armed wolf.
Guys! I figured out how to make true strike not such! 2 levels of fighter and the rest Rogue and take the Metamagic Adept for Quickened Spell! Steps: Quicken True Strike. Attack with Action. If they aren't dead disengage with action surge and run behind the tank.
the most fun I've ever had was with a sorcerer/rouge build. Base true strike may only be useful in very specific circumstances but quickened true strike is OP

Unironicly true strike is actually decent on sneak attack builds. Not great mind you but decent. Your better of relying on you party to set you up, but in a pinch true strike + dodge us a great setup for the next turn.
I’ve been playing final fantasy a lot recently and was replaying final fantasy X and yes I know I know you just gave us Cloud Tifa and Sephiroth but.......this character is interesting I would love to see how to play Yuna, Yuna is your typical white mage with one MASSIVE difference, yeah she can do everything you expect of a white mage, healing magic, defensive buffs etc. but she is also a summoner, so at any point on her turn she can turn around and basically summon what amounts to pseudodemons born of dreams of people being kept in suspended animation for the sole purpose of making these dream monsters and turning them into real things bound to a summoners will

For flavor wins if you play this build, keep taking rogue levels until you die, only then take warlock levels. This means you might get very far as just a rogue. Or die at level 2 to the midboss. I would say misty step is similar to mist raven feather tool. It would line up with how little you can use it. And For pact weapon, you do get a poison shortsword for your arm so that also checks out.
This is actually along the lines I would expect in building Talion from Shadow of Mordor. He might be a ranger in-story, but his talents are incredibly rogue-like.
I feel like the zealot barbarian would be a more rp friendly ( since 3 levels makes dying literally just an inconvenience more than anything). Plus it will leave you open to using the 13th level thief Skill as an answer to using all the crazy "ninja arm gadgets".
Top tier tip toer is honestly one of the most clever things I've ever read.

True Strike on a Rouge actually makes sense. You hold back a turn, hide, and Sneak Attack with better odds for a Crit is a decent way to start an ambush.
But rogues have the aim action which is almost objectively better

What I think everyone forgets about true strike is that it can be cast on allies as well up to 30ft away if you are a buff caster this is the spell for you especially if you are a sorcerer with twin cast.
I really like this one! The Undying warlock is usually not appealing to me but it works well with this one.
I would pick Eldrich Blast rather than true strike as a surrogate for the shuriken prosthetic.

I really think you should try building some of the characters from Outlaw Star, it's fun anime you can probably binge multiple times in a day to get all the notes you need. And with 5 main cast members, 2 only 3 of which are primary, you'll have quite a few choices. Also, if you find yourself getting some Firefly vibes from the series, Outlaw Star came before that in the real world (Firefly is a 2002 series, Outlaw Star first aired in its English dub on Toonami back in 1998). Of course, you'll probably have to dip into the Critical Role content, something I don't think you've done yet, when it comes to the Gene Starwind, the primary protagonist of the series, seeing as he's not too shy about using firearms, especially when you take into account he has a gun that was specifically designed to shoot spells, so even if he doesn't have immediate access to spells he can still use them, they just need to loaded into special cartridges/shells that are specially designed to be used with the fancy gun that shoots magic. Aisha and Suzuka might be the most straightforward builds from the series, seeing as their abilities are pretty easy to translate to D&D with a bit less effort (Suzuka is even stated to be an Assasin in-series when we first meet her).
Also, if we want to go with something a bit more base D&D-ish then I suggest That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, plenty of D&D-type stuff in the series. That said, the main protagonist of the series is literally a slime, an Ooze if we go by D&D terms, but it's all good because the Juiblixian-Slimes Just Want to Adventure supplement, which I've left a link to on a few past episode comments, will give you access to rules on making characters that are also slimes/oozes. Besides, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has a fun anime and manga in addition to being a light novel series.
What about Knight Solare of Astora from Dark Souls. PRAISE THE SUN!
Light Domain Cleric, 15 Str, 14 Wis, 13 Cha, 12 Con, 10 Dex, 8 Int, Variant Human, +1 Str and Dex, Weapon Master Feat(Only Time I've ever seen this be worthwhile), +1 Dex and proficiency with Shortswords, Longswords, Halberds, and Longbows(Just my picks). Dunno if this is what he would do, but it's how I would go about it.
I get that these builds never include magic items, but this one seems like it should be an exception. If you have a solid character concept a reasonable DM should let you flavor boots of striding and springing as a prosthetic grappling hook arm you got after your rival cut off your jack arm. With that three levels of undying warlock is all you need for this build to flourish. Just be sure to pick up pact of the tome for thorn whip.

I like everything you got here, but one nitpick. I feel like it would make much more sense thematically for your new spell when you take your 5th level in warlock to be Dispel Magic, not Counterspell. One of the items in the game (that actually comes somewhat in handy with a certain boss) allows you to dispel illusions in a short radius. It works exactly like dispel magic, except it only works for illusions. Also, in very late game, you get a prosthetic tool that is pretty much infinite of that item (your buddy Jake was using that item in the game footage so I thought it worth mentioning)

The "DM isn't a jerk" version of this build involves the DM letting you both get a robot arm and a ring of jumping :D
I just went kensei monk with the revenant 'race' and called it a day. All of sekiro's gadgets are easily formed into fun magic items (if you talk to your GM about what you want - which usually works in my experience because I'm so charming) so you dont need to waste levels on spellcaster dips.

Guys! I figured out how to make true strike not such!
2 levels of fighter and the rest Rogue and take the Metamagic Adept for Quickened Spell!
Steps:
Quicken True Strike.
Attack with Action.
If they aren't dead disengage with action surge and run behind the tank.
the most fun I've ever had was with a sorcerer/rouge build. Base true strike may only be useful in very specific circumstances but quickened true strike is OP

Unironicly true strike is actually decent on sneak attack builds. Not great mind you but decent. Your better of relying on you party to set you up, but in a pinch true strike + dodge us a great setup for the next turn.
I’ve been playing final fantasy a lot recently and was replaying final fantasy X and yes I know I know you just gave us Cloud Tifa and Sephiroth but.......this character is interesting I would love to see how to play Yuna, Yuna is your typical white mage with one MASSIVE difference, yeah she can do everything you expect of a white mage, healing magic, defensive buffs etc. but she is also a summoner, so at any point on her turn she can turn around and basically summon what amounts to pseudodemons born of dreams of people being kept in suspended animation for the sole purpose of making these dream monsters and turning them into real things bound to a summoners will
