I did have the immense privilege to meet Jos on the top of Helvellyn back in the 1970s. I had struggled up (walking) from Thirlmere when this guy shot past me. I caught him up while he was eating a rock cake on the summit. Apparently he had not started his run at the foot of the mountain, but had run all the way from Braithwaite, many miles away. He said that he would reach Thirlmere in 22 minutes, but if he did not he would turn around and run back up!!!!! What a man!
What a wonderful send off we gave Joss! It was a colourful & joyous occasion which I think he wanted! It was a privilege to be there to say a final farewell to a Legend ❤ Beautifully captured too. Thanks Olga x (from Josie G)
What a fitting tribute. Joss' legendary runs will live long in the memory of his friends and generations of fell runners stretching far into the future. Thank you for this fine coverage.
Thank you for this video. An absolute hero of mine, one of the best ever but always modest and kind. Think the Lakeland fell running community gave some comfort on this day to his family as to how well he was regarded.
Great video - I was staying in Ambleside last week but left for home on Friday. Enjoyed the Running int Fells exhibition at the museum. Joss was a pure legend.
I couldn't capture on the phone all the extent of how many fell runners there were. BBC Cumbria was there with their equipment but they didn't even go up a bit to film. I think they filmed all the runners running past the church.
Благодаря Olga. I was thrilled for us all to be invited then came down with Covid this week. It’s been painful to miss it although having that thought weigh heavily on me probably shows enough of what Joss meant to our sport and sensibility. I was wondering too whether being there amongst every vest imaginable would have moved me much, but even if it hadn’t, the playing of Beethoven’s Pastoral would have been enough I’m sure. Our task now has to be to take his spirit to every trig point, dale and mere…
Maravilloso, soy un deportista veterano,he echo de todo y sigo haciendo, aunque la edad me limita muchas cosas, pero sigo para delante,me parece sensacional lo que haceis, felicidades, seguir asi que es salud, gracias a todos,
That was very touching and a wonderful show of people in the hills forever Joss Naylor.
