Seriously! At 5:15 you can see Ambrose bumb Murphy (commentated on by Crompton) then he continued to try and drive around him. Why would/should Murphy have to lift the the throttle?
Greg Murphy made the mistake at turn 2 which allowed Ambrose to get up the inside with a little rub fair racing he was well past him coming in to turn 3 that is not a corner u can go in two abreast. Murphy should have lifted out of the throttle to avoid that crash. His mistake was the reason Ambrose got round. He instead chose to keep it pinned knowing Ambrose would turn in. Murphy caused this crash through shear arrogance there’s no other way to put it. I don’t mind Murph but it doesn’t matter how many years on I still feel the same way as when I watched it happen live. Love Bathurst. So many big moments over the years!!
I like Murph but this time he turned Ambrose. Overhead shot shows Murphy he was up far enough but he has a good foot or two of road on the inside he chose not to use and drove into Marcus. Oh well there’s always been no lost love between them.
Have no idea why they were saying they couldn't call that. Clearly that one was on Murphy. Retaliatory or not that was bonehead racing. How is it even a question of who was to blame?... He had plenty room on the inside to brake and turn in, but never, just so that he could punt Ambrose. And I'm a fan of neither of them
Can’t agree with you, when you’re racing side by side as it was there, you can’t cut your opponent line and jump on the inside. That’s exactly what Ambrose did, if you look closely at the heli cam, you clearly see that Ambrose jumps on the inside on Murphy giving him no room to turn
Judging by what i just watched Ambrose was almost completely past Murphy, on the outside, i would say he was 3/4 of the way past, IF Ambrose had stayed out a little bit wider he might have nearly got away with it. Sad to see the beautiful Pirtek car so badly smashed up! Ambrose always was quick even on cold tires, he seen a chance and went for it, they never did get on ( Ambrose and Murphy ). I wonder what ever happened to the PIrtek car, Stone Brothers said they would keep that one, but i have heard No more since.
They used it for a few races in the development series (can’t remember what it’s called) in 2006. They just finished restoring it a month ago I believe. (Took them a fair while)
@@harleyhunneybell6359 in the 2006 ATCC James Courtney replaced Marcos Ambrose he went to USA to race, the car James Courtney was racing was involved in a bad accident, needed a lot of work, the only spare car they had that i know was the 05 Pirtek car which i guess had been repaired after the Bathurst crash, it would have painted yellow/blue for James Courtney to use while the other car was being fixed. I knew that Stone Brothers intended to keep that 05 Pirtek car, it probably has been repainted back to Pirtek colours and put away.
In my opinion Ambrose was not enough ahead of Murphy to see where he was and took the full racing line ( 5:15 ) thinking that Murphy was totally behind him, but he wasn't. I guess Ambrose thought that Murphy T-boned him on purpose and Murphy thought that Ambrose steered into him ( 5:16 ) doing a too aggressive move. I am a Ford fan but Ambrose had an Ego fail here. He couldn't have passed Murphy there and even if he did, he would have gone too wide in the next corner, maybe crashing on the outside wall. He should have waited. Also, I didn't like the touch at 7:51. That was unnecessary and probably costed Ambrose the full pass.
yet obvious from Ambrose's onboard that he turned down onto Greg's car and left no room. That's hardly a racing incident, thats a dickhead driving like shit.
There was some touching between the 2 cars out of turn 2 then they argue about it on the run to the cutting, both drives refusing to concede the position and going for the same bit of track, shame it happened but murphy was on the inside in my opinion, i love bathurst 1000
It's kind of an unwritten rule that whoever has their nose in front as they head towards the cutting, the other car backs off even if they're on the inside as its really only a 1 car corner. I respect your views however!
@Whjne Especially if the drivers switched positions, then who would blame whom. If a drivers answer would be, "It's his fault." no matter which car he was in, then it becomes one of those _ racin' deals._ I've never did a _bump and run_ on anyone that would totally ruin his race, and even maybe cause a wreck like this, that bring innocent parties into it. If you make a risky move, or move someone to gain a position, and it causes a wreck like this, you screwed up.
Murphy was on the inside, but he went straight instead of turning into the corner as he would have if he was actually racing that corner, instead of trying to spin out Ambrose.
This was Murphs fault hands down they would of both went around the corner if Murphy had turned but couldnt as you can see his right front wheel locks can see the smoke and it steered him straight into Ambrose weather ut was on pirposs fron being overtaken that is up for debate but that crash took out 3 of the leading top 4 cars in the race
Dear Nascar drivers, Watch and learn! This is how professional racers should behave when they are upset about one another. Letting the emotions flow without making an arse out of themselves.
All this Ambrose fault Murphy fault I am just so dumbfounded how people just dont understand about basic racing door handle to door handle fair and square. From aerial shot there is NO question it is all on Murphy's arrogance the reason behind the unforgettable shunt. Firstly you only need to go back to turn 2 (formerly known as GTX bend) and clearly you'll see Murphy losing traction badly over the ripple strip and with a tail wag he lost alot of forward momentum. Ambrose, in a superior and faster car as the team has demonstrated all day, saw this opportunity and quickly ran around approaching the left hand kink before the Cutting. As they goes around the little kink, in normal practice the two drivers would be side by side around the corner giving each other plenty of room (remember the classic Seton and Jim Richards door to door handle drive during 1987?) but as you easily see as Ambrose started to turn left Murphy didnt. The Kiwi knew it doesnt take much to turn Ambrose around should they make contact.. At that speed a simplest nudge is all it takes. Ambrose had to turn left because he is running out of room AND he is supposed to turn left expecting Murphy to do the same. And very importantly it is what expected from Murph. But look at the video again. Murphy continues straight for just a little bit than usual, and at that speed contact is guaranteed and the rest is history. And then I just found Murphy even more of a dick for expecting everyone will take his story by reckoning Ambrose had ego problem. Clearly Murphy is holding quite a bit of grudge on Ambrose after their heated post-race briefing about the alleged 'brake testing' incident at Surfers Paradise street circuit the year before. So when Mr Murphy saw the Pirtek Falcon flying by Murphy suddenly saw red. I have no doubt in my mind Ambrose was in a box seat to win his first Bathurst that year despite the little hiccup with the missing balaclava. There were something like 30-35 laps to go and the blue Falcon has tons of speed that no other car could match, not even the eventusal winner Skaife and Toddler Kelly in the HRT Commodore. The Falcon was passing Murphy for 7th opr 8th and in striking distance of race leaders. So Mr Murphy, if you're reading this you are a complete wombat. For all those Holden fans thinking about having a go at me just because my veins all blue, please don't be bias just because you drive a Gemini or a Camira. Watch the video and you'll know Ambrose did no wrong.. RIP Ford Falcon 1960 - 2016
dj17q I do have a hypothesis about why Murphy's car went straight. It is possible that Murphy lost a right-front tire coming into the corner (the tire goes suddenly and you lose steering, Caruso had the same issue at Adelaide earlier this year). I'm not justifying what Murphy did, but I am wondering if he didn't have that much control over his car.
juniorgeneric If it did Murphy would've said anything. But he didn't. And with every cameras, on board data etc etc there was nothing about tyre failure. And I do think, vaguely remembering from other source that when Murphy car was taken back to pit lane all 4 tyres are still inflated. So it is ALL on Murphy's arrogance ever since Gold Coast 2004. That's all to it.
Ambrose turned in on him. Murphy clearly had no where to go, if he turned in he'd hit the wall. Once the initial contact was made there was no chance of murph turning in. Quite simply Ambrose didn't give Murphy racing room. This is coming from a die hard ford fan too.
+Joel Barron Ambrose had to turn in because he is expecting Murphy to do the same. He is depending on Murphy's racing experience (or lack of) to turn. Simple. Ambrose had to turn because they are going through a left hand kink. Look at the video again. Again, we got another ducker with no racing background jumping up and down as like they know a thing about racing. Bloody wannabe!!! Mate, before you start throwing horse shit around I suggest you get a Bathurst 1987 dvd and check out the similar door handle to door handle between Richards and Seton. They went thru side by side with barely inches apart because both turned at the same time. They rely on each other's experience. And with respect. No contact. No crash. No aggro. Simple.
+dj17q exactly. even from the over head shot murphy has room to turn and ambrose has given him room. while not much but murphy just carries it straight. no attempt to turn in what so ever
If you're interested in Murphy's take on what happened, there is a good interview that Peter Brock did with him where he talks about how and why it all happened th-cam.com/video/tgLchT0FDwE/w-d-xo.html
Looked like Murphy tried to turn into Ambrose at turn 2 to prevent him from passing then totally failed to turn @ 3 putting Ambrose into the wall... I was never really into Supercars fan but I remember Ambrose was made out to be a massive hothead... Totally changed my view of him.
"But muh Ford vs Holden. It was ALWAYS Ford vs Holden", incorrectly stated every bogan ever. Makes me mad. Because no, it wasn't ALWAYS Ford vs Holden. And people are crying because more cars got added. "Ruining V8 supercars" they say. "It isn't pure anymore" they say. Yeah it only became Ford vs Holden after Nissan embarrassed the shit out of them on the track they both had sponsorship deals with. But hey, if something has been a certain way for like 20 years, it was ALWAYS that way according to the bogan target marketing audience. But I suppose when your diet consists of VB, cigarettes and freshly picked boogers, you'll get mad over anything.
Never understood why Murphy stopped the car, the car appeared undamaged considering the safety car was going to now appear. Great piece of History at the Mountain though regardless.
Honestly, if we are looking at the heli cam, we clearly see that Ambrose is jumping completely on the apex giving no room to Murphy. They were side by side, you’re supposed to give a bit of room when side by side. It’s looking like a racing incident but I think it’s Ambrose mistake. He gave no room and cut Murphy’s line
Indeed they are. Texas Governor Rick Perry, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, V8 Supercars Chairman Tony Cochrane and founding partner of Circuit of the Americas Tavo Hellmund confirmed a five-year deal.
What the fuck are you on about,, he drove him strait into the wall didnt even turn, he didnt care aboyt his race the car ir his team should of been sacked instantly then taken to court for deliberately endangering Ambrose's life

5:01 How come one of Ambrose's seat belts wasn't on?
Michael450045 it was
No it wasn't and he was fined for it not being on after he admitted not having it on
2:02 omg it’s Burt from those adds ( this is a joke I know he is a fictional character)
I’m here to check..
That’s probaby what give them the idea for the ad and character ahaha
All these years and you just get left wondering why Murphy couldn't turn left 🤔 ruined Ambrose's final shot at the mountain.
Yea right cause Ambrose was such a clean racer all his career 😅
I like Murph but this time he turned Ambrose. Overhead shot shows Murphy he was up far enough but he has a good foot or two of road on the inside he chose not to use and drove into Marcus. Oh well there’s always been no lost love between them.
why does it sound like the pitch is turned down
Who came back here to this video after the last bert ad
Me
When I was racing these v8's 20 years ago, greg murphy nick was " The Hand Bag " haha

About getting of the throttle and traction
Such a great moment, back when racing was racing!
Is this before or after the "brake test" incident in the Gold Coast?
few years after
A year after actually....
People still argue about this today lol. I think it was a racing incident.
yet obvious from Ambrose's onboard that he turned down onto Greg's car and left no room. That's hardly a racing incident, thats a dickhead driving like shit.
@@gorky1317 Greg didnt even attempt to turn left though
Ambrose should have just taken the points. He was fighting for the championship. He ended up with 0 points.
You don't expect to get punted off the road by a flog that did not turn at all.
I still think it was a racing incident as well. Sometimes shit just happens.
Ambrose throws his arms in the air, storms over then gets backed up quicker than a blocked toilet. All bark.
all bark?? don't think Casey Mears would agree with you on that one.
If a drivers answer would be, "It's his fault." no matter which car he was in, then it becomes one of those _ racin' deals._
I've never did a _bump and run_ on anyone that would totally ruin his race, and even maybe cause a wreck like this, that bring innocent parties into it.
Dear Nascar drivers,
Watch and learn!
This is how professional racers should behave when they are upset about one another.
Letting the emotions flow without making an arse out of themselves.
Greg Murphy's lowest point, very Tander like, just saying
T-BONED.
golden days
That's strange, I didn't noticed it at first.
Best move Murph ever made....Love it
I swear he said.."You fucking twat.."
RIP Ford Falcon

dj17q I do have a hypothesis about why Murphy's car went straight.
Battle of the identical hairlines!
If you're interested in Murphy's take on what happened, there is a good interview that Peter Brock did with him where he talks about how and why it all happened th-cam.com/video/tgLchT0FDwE/w-d-xo.html
Ambrose tags Murphy, Murphy retaliates.
Anyone during 2020 covid19 pandemics?
Geez ambrose was a spineless old cow for letting murph walk him backward like that during that little chat
can they data log how much steering lock was on to see if he turned into him, away from the direction of the track?
Unbelievable
miss the auld days where there was eclectic mix of cars on the grid
Great piece of History at the Mountain though regardless.
had busted shock n steering arm
@@1sneaky1a Haha ah okay thanks, i just thought they wanted to scrap.
Murphy was up to Ambrose's b-pillar, Ambrose should have given up the corner.
What the fuck are you on about,, he drove him strait into the wall didnt even turn, he didnt care aboyt his race the car ir his team should of been sacked instantly then taken to court for deliberately endangering Ambrose's life
Murphy went straight on and essentially rammed Ambrose probably as retribution for Ambrose getting sideways into him in the previous corner.
Craig lowndes copped the tyre to the windshield
anyone watching this to see if that guy was actually in the background ?
Leigh Diffey sounds very... muscular in this clip..
Would of liked Ambrose to continue his career here to rub Murphy's nose in it . But congrats to Marcus on his success in NASCAR
Murphy would’ve told him to go off to NASCAR now
But really it depends on who you talk to who's fault it was
Why does the commentators' voices sound artifically deep?
That was all Murph
