All you Ambrose haters, look at the video again, tell me how long those brake lights were on before it was even close to a tap. Ambrose sending him a message....sure... brake check...hardly! Murphy being the little b-word he is, has no room to criticize, he's one of the drivers who lacks some serious self control..
Just to clarify for those who are not aware - as it was never explained at the start of this clip - Rick Kelly made contact with Russell Ingall on the opening lap which resulted in a puncture on Ricks car. Rick came back onto the circuit 1 lap down on the leaders (hence why he was between Ambrose 1st and Murphy 2nd and not at the press conference). Towards the end of that race, Rick was right behind Ambrose and Ambrose feeling the pressure from a car 1 lap down and tried to to give Rick a chance to pass without loosing too much time to Murph but Rick wouldn't take up the opportunity (Not jumping to conclusions but one must ask why a driver approaching the leader would not take up the opportunity to unlap himself) and that's what led to Ambrose confronting Rick after the race and also what he was referring to when he said "It's really disappointing that they want to play that way" because Ambrose (his words not mine) in an interview seconds after confronting Rick, alleged that Rick was instructed to pressure him into a mistake so Murphy could capitalise and take the win. Not jumping to conclusions, just highlighting another side to the story that wasn't shown in this clip from the following round at or close to the Symmons Plains round that year.
Sounds fair enogh, but why be concerned or afraid of a car 1 lap down, Is'nt the rules there to protect the drivers that runs fair? If it's one young "hothead" in the race, you don't have to be the same! But thats what i'm thinking, a guy from the other side of the world. (Norway, and all we have is Rally and Rallycross :-( ) ;-)
I think it was more he was thinking it was a tactic from the lapped car to help it's team mate by putting pressure on the leader. I suppose it's easy to get caught up in the moment where the pressure is on and sometimes when you feel hard done by, it's easy to be irrational and overreact. Makes great viewing for the fans but and that's what motorsport is about.
You said it well! Teamwork, competition, personality and finaly, to give the fans a great racing! And V8 Supercar Champ. is no doubt one of the worlds greatest show. ;-)
Yeah I know it was, I'm just explaining why Marcos did it because they only showed what happened after the race, not the circumstances from start to finish.
I know that. I'm a big fan of Ambrose, I was friggin glad when he won at Watkins Glen last year, but my point was that Ambrose was in the wrong in THIS case. I'm not taking anything away from him as a driver, but if he wasn't in the wrong for that incident, why did it take him so long to reply to Murphy's question - "Why'd you jump on the brakes?".
Bathurst wins - Murphy: 4, Ambrose: 0. Numbers speak for themselves. On a serious note, Ambrose was in the wrong there, and it's not because I'm a Murph supporter. Why else would you mash the brake pedal after the race?
Rick Kelly was 1 lap down after a punctured tyre from spinning Ingall around on the opening lap and Ambrose felt as though he tried to let Rick pass a few times throughout the race and unlap himself, but Rick wouldn't take up the offer. It was alleged at the time that it may have been a tactic from Kmart for Rick to pressure Ambrose into a mistake and allow Murph to capitalize, hence Marcos having a go at Kmart during the press conference and confronting Rick after the brake test incident.
I hope Murph gets a good car next year. I've run into him a few times at motocross tracks and he's a good bloke. His skills (and balls around Bathurst) are unquestionable.

A brief history of Marcos's v8 supercar career .. 2001 Ambrose was signed by Stone Brothers Racing to drive the Pirtek Racing Ford Falcon. Ambrose stunned the V8 Supercar world when he qualified on pole for his first ever V8 Supercar race, supporting the Australian Grand Prix 2003 - 2004 won the series .. back to back and if Murpgy didn't take him out more than likely 2005 as well .. Ambrose is still the only driver to have a round win in every V8 Supercar season he has participated in.
Rather ironic hearing Greg Turkey say that. I seem to remember one bathurst not too long ago where he paired with Skaifey that had Greg screaming on the radio how everyone is holding him up - despite the fact that they were racing for position lol.
Ambrose has brake tested a few drivers - he also had a habit of turning across the front of other drivers when they were trying to make a legitimate pass at a corner.
Marcos Ambrose basically admitted recently that he was very driven about his racing and was little bit arrogant. Good on Marcos for owning up and admitting a fault.
Totally agree mate, he achieved a lot during his short time here and he was always hit with penalties for minor infringements that hampered many more of his potential achievements in V8 Supercars. He was not liked by race officials, because he always spoke up about their tactics when they were unjustified and they always fined him heavily and accused him of bringing the sport into disrepute and that's one of the main reasons he left Australia to pursue Nascar, and he hasn't looked back.

Ambrose is always more than happy to stop and meet with people, which reflects on what a nice overall gentleman he is
I don't dispute that, though my main point of my comment was that Ambrose had intentionally brake tested Kelly. I'm a big supporter of Marcos, I'm glad he's doing well in the States at the moment, but his head was obviously in Disneyland long before he ever went there. I've never, NEVER in the 12 years that I've been watching V8 Supercars seen that happen, and regardless of what flag you fly, it is not acceptable. If Murph did that, I would have exactly that same opinion as I did on Marcos.
Difference is that could be at 40-60kph and $10,000 worth of crumpled Datsun? This was at like 200kph, $400,000-odd of race car, including Ambrose's car. Imagine if Kelly wasn't aware that Marcos was slowing?

I heard the brakes on live telly after the race, you could hear that he hit the brakes hard. That and Ambrose did look in his mirrors at Kelly. But hey, it's just my opinion, I think that Ambrose was in the wrong there, I think a lot of honest people would say that as well, and Ambrose was fumbling his words when Murph asked why he hit the brakes.
Ambrose went on to win the championship for a second year in a row and has gone on to become the most successful Australian nascar driver in history. Had nothing to do with Murphy anyway, not sure what makes him think his opinion means anything to anyone. Kelly what? Murphy who?
no australian cares about nascar... his "success" there was pretty average.. and his supercars championships where done by CHEATING.. remember the face ambrose hated wearing the mandated balaclava...

It doesn't matter who you are, that shit is not on.
You didn't actually provide a reason why Ambrose hit the brake pedal. I slow down after everyone of my races, you have to! Ambrose was not in the wrong he was just doing what everyone normally does.

They were all pretty unprofessional during this period. Murphy was very lucky not to have caused Ambrose serious injury going up the mountain in 2005. Too many rushes of blood. Kelly was prone to 'em as well.

Nascar Wins Ambrose 4 (3 busch 1 Nextel), Murphy 0. Murf has always been a tit and more than likely always will be. He's certainly not the person to be sitting high in the saddle preaching about driving standards when it was he who damn near put Ambrose (and other cars following) over the wall on the rise up to the cutting at Bathurst not even 12 months later.

@v8supercarsnumber1 Yes Marcos Ambrose has won one race. At Watkins Glenn last year, but he has won
Yeah he won in a series where 99% of the guys don't know how to turn right. Hardly a challenge for any decent road course driver.
V8 Supercars in a nutshell
Murph you legend!!
Kelly helmet looks like something that was from topgun
Nascar Wins Ambrose 4 (3 busch 1 Nextel), Murphy 0. Murf has always been a tit and more than likely always will be. He's certainly not the person to be sitting high in the saddle preaching about driving standards when it was he who damn near put Ambrose (and other cars following) over the wall on the rise up to the cutting at Bathurst not even 12 months later.
this wasnt the first time that he did it either! he did it to mark skaife at oran park. took skaife out of the race
Kelly was a lap down from Ambrose & was trying to take him out. Murphy always a good drama queen.
Marcos was such a bastard but god i loved him anyway.
