    Looks like I'm going to go search for a joystick, something I have never done before. I am on the verge of getting involved! My credit card is concerned though! The procedural world has me really excited. I think procedurally generated game worlds will be common place in the future. Keep up the great work guys.

    I've been waiting for this ever since I jumped my Thargoid warship out as far I could and parked in orbit around some moon. Played Elite on the BBC B on release and gave my pledge to Frontier. Glad to see this finally move from vapourware to reality. Good luck Dave - do us proud!

    A lot of respect and admiration for the creativity in David Braben ( a fellow Notts guy) and the rest of team. One cannot even imagine my childhood without all the hours and dare I say dreams spent on the original. This was the first game that people made urban legends about. Just a note: Even now, all these years since the original Acorn version, people where I am in Kazakhstan, know about Elite. The influence just goes on and on.Am glad to pledge and can’t wait to play the beta.

    Working on clawing my way to Triple Elite, and I found someone on the forums whose signature led to a very specific quote around 2:40 so...yeah, mining...let's NOT incentivize that so hardcore.
    "Carrying Princess Lucky to some Opening Ceremony"...In the few months of recent yore that I was in your galaxy, that is THE ONE THING I WISH were in the game that I have NOT found to be there! Or MAYBE I didn't pay attention to the Passenger Lounge portion...could be on me, there.
    I know, I'm 8 years too late. AH, if only I had a TIME MACHINE!

    Can't wait for this. For guys of my generation Elite was the first experience of a truly immersive and obsessive game. Many a long boring Sunday was spent loading up the game on audio tape onto my ZXSpectrum and battered the rubber keys blowing away Pythons with cargoholds filled with goodies.

    This game is the space sim version of Oblivion - a wide open sand box universe to explore in which you can pick your role based on your actions. This is why both this and Star Citizen will be must have purchases. This is the sandbox game, Star Citizen is the Wing Commander, the serialized mission progression that tells a great story, in one direction. Both are complementary to each other and have different strengths. I hope we can buy both.

    Depends on the velocities involved- skidding would be a lot less pronounced at low velocities in low mass ships. That said, they've hinted that the physics will probably be closer to Elite than to Frontier, in part because the combat in Frontier was seen as too challenging (by some) and in part the sorts of week-long burns that we saw in Frontier wouldn't be practical for a multiplayer game.

  • @ArianneLindup

    How about a device to detect allies or 'escort' as in a transmitter code that can be programmed in... Allies could then have a green halo when targeting thus reducing the chance of hitting your own bodyguards.

    And Elite has so much more than what SC has, in other areas. You're right, we can't compare or say which is better yet, and I don't think we ever will. They'll both be great games - but very different in style, approach & game play. Aside from the black setting, it would be like comparing apples and oranges. Which is "better" will only come down to personal taste.

  • @rednaxel04
    @rednaxel04 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is Newtonian physics. The maneuverability like in video is possible with powerful engines controlled by fly-by-wire. And maneuverability of spacecraft is limited by pilot abilities. The average person can withstand any overload up to 15G of about 3-5 seconds without blackout, but the big loads of 20-30G or more people can tolerate without blackout no more than 1-2 seconds. Not matter, in space or in air.
    But it would be cool, also manually control all engines.
    sorry for my english :)

  • @Pecisk
    @Pecisk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    While there's no official word on requirements yet, there's safe bet that anything from last two years would work, because space sims are not that resource hogs like other games.

  • @0Zed0
    @0Zed0 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    7BeasT9, the physics wont be dumbed down but the ship's computer will take your inputs and do it's best to get the thing flying in the direction you're pointing as quick as possible. There has been some suggestion that this could be turned off by the player and if it can be then being able to switch between the two modes could make for some very interesting fights.

  • @Pecisk
    @Pecisk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    See answer in FAQ section. It still will be Newtonian (video is pre-alpha, you can't really make any assumptions out of it, it's purerly for testing network code), so don't get desparate.

  • @MalcolmSpiteri
    @MalcolmSpiteri 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adam, I refer you to the official FAQ entry regarding Newtonian Physics:
    "Will you have Newtonian physics in the game?"
    "Yes. The degree of the fly-by-wire to override the feeling of skidding is something we will carefully tune."
    Don't forget this demo is very early-days, so the flight mechanics may, and probably will, change as the development advances.

  • @Pecisk
    @Pecisk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nope, in Elite there will be very detailed ship models, when destroying parts of it you could see different models flying around. By the way, David explained this idea first on his KS. Only after that SC team thought "ohh, we can do the same".

  • @mightili
    @mightili 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Arcade pew pew I mean that E: D is not based on a lot of detail thats why atmospheric flight and planet landing is possible even though I dont believe there will be planet interaction on that level at release. Yeah it will be a sandbox with ships consisting of a "flying block" ship models, with one logical element for shields/hull dmg. The amount of detail in SC will be considerably higher and it will also have sand box approach. Only Squadron 42 will be campaign on rails so to speak.

But David Braben said in a interview some years ago,that in Elite 4,you should be able to do just that. Let's just see where this goes :)

  • @aBoogivogi
    @aBoogivogi 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Fly wy wire sounds very very unrealistic." It's real. For instance the F16 uses computers to make microscopic adjustments and gyros to make sure it will fly straight. This is because the airframe is designed to be aerodynamically unstable to allow for quicker turns while in the air. If the "fly by wire" system failed on an F16 in mid air the pilot would eject cause there is just no way for him to make all the small adjustments the computer would normally make.

  • @Pecisk
    @Pecisk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dear mightili, I'm older than you think, I played both WC 3 and 4 when they were released, and they are mission based phew phew - with all cutscenes and real actors. Very good games, but that's not Elite about - Elite is making your own story. And with evolving galaxy concept there will be overreaching movement in one way or another.
    Lot of people have pointed out that Elite and SC can't be different than they are now - both are space sims, but both cover very different gameplay styles

  • @Mithaldu
    @Mithaldu 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's the deal: If it were actual fly-by-wire it would be tunable by the pilot, in every parameter, on the fly. At best they'd have to find a sensible default. "did he say they were lasers?" They cannot be anything else, unless you believe someone would make a weapon that shoots iron spikes that have been heated exactly to red hot and not a bit further. ;)

  • @pascalblanche
    @pascalblanche 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice but...you should work out different types of flight mechanics.. obviously those fighter types are more fitted for dogfights than pounding on static targets.It would also help players adopting specific roles ( concentrating on big targets or on dogfights ) id expect to be able to strafe and orbit around those big guys keeping an eye on my target instead of doing tedious back and forths all the time or having some ships with flight behaviors like the Vipers in the Galactica series ( gliding)

  • @Pecisk
    @Pecisk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    They were best at the time when they were first - and only next generation of space sims came in mid nineties. However, Elite and it's sequels concepts were never fully bested - Wing Commander and others went to "combat space fight mission based" route, and only few (for example Privateer and later X) choose more open ended gameplay (like Elite).
    People trusting FD about this have seen original and sequels - they were amazing. Planet landings, slingshot flying, etc.

    And I say Chris Roberts himself said in a recent interview his game won't be as complex in terms of scale as Elite will be. And I say Braben talked about procedural terrain on ED's planets. It would make sense that you can visit them then, wouldn't it? And I'm pretty sure that of the 2 games, SC will be the more arcade pew pew thing, which is not a bad thing. But you just shouldn't be mixing potatoes with tomatoes.

    The point being that even with Red Baron being that old it is LITERALLY exactly the same thing in terms of gameplay and visuals as Star Citizen. I'll make a rough write-up tomorrow of how combat could be handled realistically, using concepts known to physics nowadays and still be fun to play. It'll have to be offsite and i'll link it in a reply to you. I watched the first video before and i don't know what you're referring to. I do have complaints about it though. Have the devs said anything about this matter? It might bring some interesting game mechanics if some sort of auto track cannons existed and if those cannons could be confused with proper countermeasurement systems. But they probably have missiles for that usage like in todays fighter aircraft.
