This is genuinely one of your best interviews. The topic is very interesting and this guy explains things really well that don't necessarily immediately come to mind.
What a great episode. You guys tapped into a lot of topics that I think about often, but struggle to articulate in conversation with others. Chris seems like such an interesting dude, and Andrew provides the perfect format for people to speak openly with each other. Looking forward to the future updates!
He gives me Noam Chomsky vibes. He is definitely great in comunication, has all the theory down, and he seems to keep it real. Good looking, healthy and inspiring guy. Thanks for sharing!
Hey, I think you should put your stuff on Spotify or similar if you can. I liked a lot of your early content from college days. Keep this up and use other platforms. I think you'll do quite well. Best of luck to you, Steve
i was in lonelness mode for while, but i found lately that it is very easily to exit it. just find a way any way to start conversation, with any body even in manilpuative way. anywhere try to start conversations and that is it. you will open subjects to continue conversations and you will get acuantances everywhere...
I am SO much more conversational and outgoing after coffee (since I only have 1-2 cups/week). Exercise helps to an extent, but usually I feel burnt out from that.
I started watching this, became curious about the skull sized kingdom quote. Looked up David Foster Wallace. A “suddenly vocal cockatiel” is a character in one of his books and then wrote a not bad short story taking that a starting point. I love my morning coffee high brain activity times.
The message i took was that if your spending the whole conversation thinking about your anxieties or any “noise”, you’re not giving the conversation your full attention. If you spent all that time thinking about what the person is saying you would find better things to say
I would have liked to hear how to deal with people who are passive aggressive or insulting but you want to continue the conversation because they are generally nice.
I think what affects me the most is the bad experiences I had rather than the good ones. Like trying to start a conversation with a stranger and just being completely ignored. I can't get that out of my head and I don't want that to happen again ever.
maybe reflect on what actually was so bad about it? you got your ego bruised a little bit, but why is this so traumatic for you? I once had to sing in front of a couple of 14 year old teenagers as an adult (solo) and they started laughing at me. That was also really bad, but I just got over it lol
@@olfrud That's exactly it. The actual thing wasn't that bad - a bit awkward and embarrassing in the moment, but that emotion passes quickly. How we respond to and hang on to those negative feelings is the thing that we have the power to change. It starts with reframing - tell ourselves, in the face of that pain of embarrassment, that the experience wasn't painful at all, and was an exciting opportunity to challenge ourselves. Obviously this will feel patently untrue the first time or the first ten times, but after enough exposure, we start to believe and internalize this new message and start to replace our old truth (awkward) with our new one. The second part is just exposure therapy. Do this enough times and those experiences will cease being very painful or difficult, and may even turn into things we look forward to. I love making an ass of myself in front of people. It's good practice showing myself that I will continue to survive embarrassment, and I find that most people live vicariously through me, and my vulnerability makes them more comfortable and willing to be vulnerable themselves, so it actually encourages and catalyzes new relationships.
Great talk, but I kinda lost my credibility in him when he said "I go to church every Sunday". It's like, when you're that gullible, you are also more likely to be less critical about other things. Which is kinda scary when he calls himself an "expert" or "mentor" in something. Good chatting with though
Thanks for having me on, Andrew! If we could all do our own "chatting with" then I think the world would be a much better place. OTAY OTAY!!
I don’t think I’ve fully paid attention and finished a podcast before this one. Great listen!
Why don’t you jet back to his place and pop out another podcast on this topic?!

Dude, you’re fucking killing it recently.
I usually approach a conversation by starting with “oOoOo big group of friends!”

This was awesome Andrew & Chris! The topic of constant stimulation/distraction is a huge one, I see it cropping up more and more in conversation
my go-to conversation stater is "Check out these sick moves" & give them a little otay otay
Oh shit this is basically a podcast
I really enjoyed this conversation. I found what Chris said about feeling awkward embarrassed or weird when trying to talk to people relatable

Here’s an idea: chatting with AI. Sometimes the responses i get from Chat-GPT and Gemini are interesting and uncanny. Could be interesting

I miss the production value of the in person couch chatting with
I'm really tired of those self proclaimed experts
Andrew is so bad at talking to people and yet he has this show lol
The best way to talk better in conversations is to approach a group of strangers going “haha what are you guys talking about?”
this is so meta
