In my exotic pet shop they won't see sugar gliders separately unless you have proof you have another sugar glider x

LISA B excuse you? I said nothing rude. You need to do a lot of research on sugar gliders before getting one. They are not easy pets to care for and far too many people buy them on impulse and don’t realize until too late that they can’t take care of them and then they are either neglected or abandoned. The fact that she doesn’t know that female sugar gliders don’t get spayed proves that she hasn’t done enough research to be looking for a sugar glider, much less care for one. Not sure why you felt the need to comment on this but you should reconsider commenting on things you don’t know anything about.
Amayah Llewellyn can you point out exactly what was unkind about my comment? I stated a fact and an inference based on that fact in an effort to prevent the potential abandonment of an animal. I’m not seeing how that’s unkind?

p0wfu expos make it seem like all you need to do is give em a tiny cage and cat food just to sell them and people dont know how to actually take care of them. Im not getting gliders for another three years and ive been researching for a year and a half already. Animals are more then just being fed and alive

My glider Lexa was a rescue from a pet store. Her mate was deformed, with a compacted nose and protein blind in one eye. I agree with most of what she has said in this video. Lexa is now 13(14 in January) and is an amazing pet. When I purchased Lexa and Hawthorne there was no real way to fix them. By the time it was generally safe to fix the males, I had 8 living gliders, 4 that died from deformities, and two of the live ones developed protein blindness before the age of 2. The male, after the procedure, lost half of his manhood to blood clots. Still Hawthorne managed to live for 12 years. I found good homes for 4 of the gliders. the remaining two could not find good homes. One was mentally unstable, and the other was completely blind. Both were aggressive due to mental issues, and took a lot of time and effort (Thor never did stop nipping when it was nail clipping time, but that had to be scary as hell for a completely blind glider). I did my research into what was stated they should be fed, and found that the fundamental thing is that they need a good 60-40 mix. 60% protein, and 40% fruits and vegetables. Like she said, the pellet foods were just not that good, and by the time they actually got decent. I couldn't even use them as a filler in a pinch. Lexa and Hawthorne would starve themselves before eating the pellet foods. So baby food it was. The trick was variety of food. I would never feed them the same food twice in a row and would buy different baby foods. I would also mix in unflavored yogurt at times, and would give them small pieces of cheese as treats. Hawthorne loved sugary things, so I had to be careful and only feed him his favorite foods once a week. Lexa loved yogurt and vegetables, so got her favorite foods more regularly. I avoided feeding live insects because even though that is common in the wild, it leads to bone degeneration earlier in life. So rather than trying to deal with feeding more calcium to compensate for the phosphates, I just opted out of that whole mess. Too much calcium can cause problems in gliders as well. Liver failure is a silent killer of these little guys, so be careful when using too many vitamins. Sugar becomes a big deal as they age, avoid sugary foods when they get older as they can develop diabetes. Lexa is still healthy and going strong, despite losing Hawthorne to pneumonia. (Don't get me started on vets saying they take sugar gliders, then don't understand what it means that you need to get them in NOW.) If I can impart any advice, it is to watch their habits and behaviors. They try to hide their issues, so you need to know how to see if they are happy or not feeling well, before they show you that they are sick. I have so many amazing stories with my two little ones. They really are the most amazing creatures.

I’ve been doing research all day about these adorable angels and I plan to do more for many years before I even consider owning them. This is the most helpful thing I’ve seen all day about proper care and I really appreciate you wanting what Is best for them as I see that there is a lot of false information that people have been spreading about taking care of them. Being a teenager, I know I don’t have the time or money to give them the love and care that they deserve even if I tried my hardest.. which makes me sad because I’ve wanted to own a couple for years but I’d rather be ready to take care of them instead of mistreating them.
If you are still helping rescues in a couple of years, I would love to offer a ready and happy home for them.💕

Im so grateful for this information. I foster animals but always wanted these. I finally found a good pair and am learning as much as I can before they arrive next week. The family has had them for 5 years but cant take them when they move so these will come with everything familiar with them as well. 🥰

I was really hoping to watch the care guide and then think sugar gliders are a lot of hassle but this care guide makes me want one even more! I currently have a few geckos and a dog, but I love animals and I love watching them, playing with them etc. I have wanted sugar gliders for many years but they're so rare in the UK and pairs are often very expensive around £1,400 for a pair which have been bred in a safe environment! Hopefully one day I can increase my family and have a pair of sugar gliders!

I just ran across your video and I’m so thankful! I’ve had my trio for 3 years and they all are on the HPWD as well. Seems we are doing everything the same minus me not breeding my girl. It’s a reassurance to know I’m doing right by them. I was ignorant at first and have just learned little by little through people like you making educational videos which are HIGHLY NEEDED. Only thing I have issues with are the nails! Could you show us your wheel with sandpaper? I’ve tried to outline their stealth wheel and failed 🤦🏽♀️

I’m getting my two sugar gliders in October I have been doing my research for 6 months now and I’m going to pick up my cage in a week and I have been saving my money non stop
I have no plans to get them anytime soon for a number of reasons, but they're so freaking cute that I wanna learn all I can.

love your video! very thorough! I have four, just got them a few months ago and i'm really enjoying them! can you do a tips and tricks video for cleaning their cage, and the area around it?
I sure can! I personally have a hard time cleaning them perfectly but they will always have a smell as they are scent based animals. I will add that to my list of videos! :)
CatAleah I know this isn't possible for everyone, but what's really good and easy to is to the cage outside and use a house to just rinse it down. If you have a special nozzle, you can make is spray pretty powerfully and it is like power washing the cage,
It works amazing and then letting it dry in the sun and there is no smell left

I want one so bad. God they’re just so amazing but I’m scared it’ll end up being more responsibility than I’m ready for. I had a ferret when I was like 11 and was definitely not ready for it. I actually have a lot of regret and sadness with the ferret :( luckily my teacher’s son was crazy into ferrets so I gave her to him. I’m definitely happy she went to a good home.
Oh I feel you. I had ferrets, and I did kinda okay with them but really didn't give them enough playtime. I want sugar gliders more than anything, but I don't think I'll be able to keep up with the fresh homemade diet.
It was very responsible and loving of you to re-home the ferret you couldn't care for.

There was a guy at the local flea market selling them. That was 7 years ago before I knew all that went into having them as pets. Needless to say I haven't saw him since smh I pray those baby's went to good homes. He had with him about 7 he seemed nice but watching this video it contradicted what he was telling me. Thank you for this video bc I WILL do more research before considering buying a pet from a flea market. Where I stay the animal shelters are under investigation so it's hard finding pets but I now know what to look for and what to ask!! Thanks!!

@@thelewis-ortizfamily656 my vet doesn't yell but says get 2 ....because they are very social animals. If you get only 1...you will have an unhappy glider. You obviously do not know much.

See the same thing happened to me with degus where they sold me just one, it's so interesting how pet stores will sell sell colony animals alone and then also send you home with multiple solitude reptiles thinking you can keep them all together in an itty bitty tank w one hide and reptile carpet

What if you were locked in a room and your only companion was a sugar glider. You would get depressed and probally start to go crazy. Now flip that and think about what a sugar gliders perspective is like.

You will be spending a $1000 on a sugar glider and you need to buy them in pairs. Plus their big ass cage and their food and their toys they are very expensive to take care of
sexy lexyy depending on where u get them ull be spending 150-200 for just 1 glider. So that's 300-400 for ur pair of gliders if u get the standard pattern glider. And then the cage is anywhere between 100-200 and then food depending on how many u have is about 100 a month. Amd then toys, bowls, water bottles, wheel, pouches etc and is another 200-300 depending on how over the top ur going.
i got 2 for 200 on cregslist with everything

A lot of breeders will give a discount for a pair. If they don't, it may be a sign that the breeder is unethical :(
The food shouldn’t be 100 dollars a month after you get them. When you first get them, yes. But after a while You can easily refresh the diets plus food doesn’t run out quickly
