I make a similar blend , I experimented with all kinds of nuts and seeds, but my favorites now are pistachio, walnut and pecan nuts, and I use an Italian herb blend and much more than you use, and much more nooch. I blend it in a food processor instead of the blender, starting with the pistachio 1st because they are hard little guys. But I love this mix too, it’s wonderful in salads, cooked veggies and sprinkled on sandwiches, and of course spaghetti and pizza!

I have made both parmesan from hemp seeds and from sunflower seeds before, but never thought of putting them together! I really like hemp seed parmesan but it tends to clump a lot, adding the less oily sunflower seeds might just solve this issue... Btw. I recommend adding a pinch of lemon pepper for a bit of tang!

Save the plants save the world plants help by turning carbon into oxygen the more plants we kill the less oxygen we get. In places where there is less oxygen depression rates are much higher… save the plants save the people

I never did find out if those sunflower seeds were supposed to be roasted or raw? But anyway I made it today with raw sunflower seeds, along with the other ingredients as listed. The flavor was really good however it's very moist. Maybe my little blender is too powerful or I pulsed it too much, or it may have been the difference of raw seeds, maybe the roasted seeds would have been dryer?
It was quite moist but I came up with a good solution: since it was pretty finely ground I laid it on a piece of parchment paper on a cookie sheet and just let it sit out and dry for a few hours (probably would have helped if I had a dehydrator but I don't own one). Then I also ground up some dry roasted chickpeas. Those grind up to a nice powdery consistency, and I added the ground dry roasted chickpeas to the seed mixture and stirred it up really good with a whisk. And now I have a fine ground fairly dry powdery mixture, which should be perfect for putting on my popcorn!! Another benefit to blending it with dry roasted chickpeas is that they are low in fat so it reduces the overall fat content (which may be a concern for some people). I hope someone finds this helpful. 😺

What a great idea. Never thought of sunflower and hemp seeds. Hemp seeds are insanely nutritious too. Thank you so much for this.

Update: This was SO GOOD on steamed cauliflower, and it was also good blended into a sauce, with a little bit of soy milk, dash of hot sauce, and extra nooch. 😺

Hemp seeds are a rich source of nutrients. Part of the hemp plant, these seeds are technically a nut that can be eaten raw or used to make milk, oil, cheese substitutes, or protein powder. While related to the cannabis plant, hemp seeds have little to none of the psychoactive compound THC found in marijuana.

I'd like to make this. I wonder how it would be mixing it into almond milk pulp, like a seasoned ricotta cheese and putting that in my lasagne rolls. Hummmm? Thanks for sharing this recipe. Now I'm hungry.

I tried to make it, however mine turned out lumpy. I dont know if its because i blended the walnuts for too long perhaps? but its definately not looking powdery like yours.

    • @cookingwithplants
      @cookingwithplants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Possibly blended too long and have released the oils from the walnuts. Need to pulse rather than blend, otherwise it can turn into nut butter

Knew this was going to need nutritional yeast for some umami hits. I'd double up on that and add my MSG-table salt-potassium chloride mix (ratio: 1:4:4; 10% MSG, 40% each of the other two) for more umami -- because real Parmesan is one of the most umami-heavy foods that isn't kombu or nori. If you're not into MSG, just make it half salt and half potassium chloride (aka "light" salt) and it will still save you some of the sodium hit. I feel that anything that's going to mimic Parmesan needs some heavy umami and a good amount of salt flavor, though.

@Haystack May I suggest using great caution and research with the MSG. MSG is poisonous chemicals to the mind & body. Peace & be well. 🌱🕊🌱

Not throwing shade to this channel because I’m subscribed and make recipes from this channel. However, I do have a parm recipe that you will like:
      1 cup of pumpkin seeds
1/4 or 1/2 cup of nutritional yeast
1.5 tsp of salt (I use Himalayan)
      .5tsp of garlic powder
Put this all in a small blender like she did. You only need to blend for a few seconds. No more than 4 or 5 because you’ll start releasing the oils from the pumpkin seed and make it clumpy.
