This incident unfortunately reminds me of a similar experience I had in high school while presenting a history project to the class. I had just recently come out as gay, and while I was speaking before the class, I stuttered on a word and everyone giggled about it, including the teacher who quietly mumbled what I thought was the F slur under his breath. I think it’s more about saying things, jokes especially, that you don’t actually mean. I think everyone has had moments where they have said something and instantly thought “wait what did I just say? I'll never understand the "This is not who I am" excuse that's always used. You are who you are when you think no one is looking. It is exactly who you are.
I think it’s more about saying things, jokes especially, that you don’t actually mean. I think everyone has had moments where they have said something and instantly thought “wait what did I just say? My mouth just vomited words that didn’t even enter my brain.” Not excusing him. He definitely deserved to be fired. However, it was a bad joke that was meant to be heard only by people who he knew well enough to understand he was joking. To the rest of the world, he just looks like a person who hates gay people and will openly call people slurs with no remorse. While I wasn't offended, I find amusing irony in a lot of the comments that cry about the way people are nowadays. They seem more sensitive than the people they're mocking.
Plus, if you think he was fired because he "hurt people's feelings", it was because they had to do damage control to appease the sponsors. It's always about money.
As usual, there's more comments from bitchy millenials about someone being offended then there actually are comments of people being offended.
Some of us just think it's a shame that, in the last decade, the outcries from people on social media platforms (over things that aren't a big deal) are responsible for sponsors cutting deals with someone because of a genuine mistake. I think it's ok to criticize the masses sometimes without being called "more sensitive than the people they're talking about".
