This is amazing! I’ve always struggled with fast and low balls to the side wall on my backhand. I played yesterday and used your tips and it was like magic. I returned every single ball and hit some winners too on my return. Thank you, Sandy! You are an angel🙏
As a spanish speaker, channels like Mejora tu Pádel should be better suited for me, but these concise, well explained and shorts videos are incredible. I'm definitely subscribing to this channel :D
Woww Mr Sandy your the best am new to padel but everybody shocking to watch my playing style, perfection. Is because of you thank you Mr Sandy.. Am very huge fan of you videos
Thx Sandy ! Extra pressure comes in because the backhandside is the side where the breakpoints eventually come ! Therefore you must hit solid returns to handle the pressure and make the breaks !
That’s a really useful and comprehensive video, many thanks. If I have a problem in a match, it’s with tennis players who have become decent padel players, but who favour a ‘topspin drive’ serve. I (not always successfully!) often try to intercept the ball before it reaches the glass, but it does limit my return options, direction, control etc. I shall make point of standing off when I next play one of these, in a ‘friendly’ match in a couple of days! I’m also concerned that my regular opponents may watch your video....I use a heavily sliced serve (right handed) to the advantage court, aiming for the few square centimetres in the corner by the glass, and I don’t want them sussing out a return!😊 Oh, one little tip that few people seem to think about, is to clear or at least spread any accumulation of sand in the ten centimetres next to the glass in the service box. If you leave it, its deadening effect really helps the server kill the ball! Now, I have to subtley get my mixed partner (wife!) to watch and learn from this video without sounding critical of her service return.....hmmmm!🙄
Yes, that topspin serve is deceptive and often a problem if not given space! Let me know how it goes! Apologies for alerting the opposition to the heavy slice serve, you will just have to rely on a dangerous first volley now ;) Yes, I've had that before, that sand by the glass can be frustration! With the new surface now it becomes less of an issue. Good luck with your partner...diplomacy is the key - good luck haha
Thx for a great illustration! In WPT I have discovered they are returning the ball almost immediatly after the bounce off the glass, almost if the they are returning it back using the glass… Also some of my spanish coaches are doing it as well… Advantage/disadvantage?
Great question. Players use that alot, I also use it a lot. It is for the ball that comes a bit deeper against the glass (almost where the separation of the glasses is) and it playing it before can be tough to get there in time and playing after is possible but means you are further back for the next shot. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to do well if learning and also you cannot be as accurate with the return...I would teach this when the player gets to a more advanced level out of necessity (and when they have a very clear understanding of how to hit before or after the rebound like this video)....does that make sense?
I dont get why at 2:50 you say that the sidespin of a right handed serve coming from left to right should bring the ball away from the glass... shouldn't it make it slip further given the spin?
@@ThePadelSchool hmm ... ok. In my head it should be the opposite but i have no way of explaining it with a comment here :D I should draw and such. I'll check it in game.
Joacim Kindström haha my apologies...wasn’t sure anyone would notice! My excuse is that I was sick last week (nothing serious) but struggled to finish the filming...🤦🏼♂️
Sandy ! Where are you from? Amazing explanation. The only way to reach more countries in padel is with people like you, please don't you ever stop doing this ! Greetings from argentina, sorry for my english, it's a little bit poor...
Thank you Bruno! It is so nice to hear positive feedback! Especially from the home of padel ;) I will do my best to continue! And your English is perfect! Mucho mejor que mi espanol!!
Thanks a lot ! I Play padel with ex tennisman who hit hard, I play on the right of the court and I’m a left hand player then it’s difficult for me when he serve near the glass ....
Very good video Sandy . This is my Main issue the serve return im a leftie Getting sliced serves licking the glas close to baseline. And theyxare fast and very low . So Getting a backhand return is very very hard and a lob is challenging . I try to stand a bit closer to back glas To Give me time and space which helped med tremdously of Getting the ball over . But its to bad return .. I would love some more pointers on it . Because a backhand return must be a decent one When its Australien style there Will be some One in front If u dont deliver it good. Same goes with lobs. Dont you lob as return on higher levels ?
Actually I am posting a video in about 10 days about lobbing on the return. But essentially, it is very difficult lobbing after the return on the side glass. You see it at WPT level because those guys are amazing after the glass. But at a slightly lower level even it is not used as much. So I would focus on blocking those balls down to the server and not trying to hit lobs on those...hope that helps
I find one of the problems is very often recreational players serve illegaly above the waist. Usually that's not a problem. But sometimes you find one of those who can apply immense slice to their serves and the ball drops much faster than in the example serves in your video.
Hey Sandy. Thanks for another great video. One question though, do you use a continental grip for this or you slightly change it so the racket would be more flat when it hits the ball?
Good question, it might be a very minor change of the grip and actually more from the angle of the forearm...I need to do a video on this as it is something coming up alot!
Nicolas Vandermarliere I talk about that for the sidespin, but the rest of the angles and slice/topspin etc don’t make a big difference. Only the sidespin can be a bit of a pain.
Keep it up Sandy! Great tip
Thank you! Will do and I enjoy yours with Simon too :)

One of the most useful advice, thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
You are the best to teach, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for the support 🙏
thx. this helped me alot. switched to play on left side and have had really hard to return on my backhand
It can be tricky, especially changing sides!!
Great video, i'm really trying to improve my backhand
Thanks! Hope it helps and your backhand becomes a weapon :)
Great video, thanks.
The only thing I would have loved to see added is a video showing the various serves to help identify them.
Thanks Sandy this is very helpful😊
You are so welcome!
Very clear and structured explanation, thank you very much!
Thanks for watching our content!!

Exactly, this is a crucial part of the game, starting the points off properly from the back!
the best video I've seen about the return in padel. Great job. Thank you!!! 🔝👌🏻
Thanks Laura! Try to bring the best content possible :)
this is really fantastic , i hope to see it before
thank you for the feedback Mahmoud!

Going from the right side (deuce side) the spin keeps it close to the glass. But from left (advantage side) it bounces away 👍
(Assuming you are right handed)

Can u explin more for the backhand bcz im need some lessons from that
I can definitely do that...

Yes, I have seen that happen. Like you said, most of the time it is not an issue, but you get the odd stinger!
For me the slow deep left handed side spin is the most difficult one. Doesn’t come out of the wall and stays low after the glass
Agree it is tough and also made more difficult because players do not face is regularly enough...
How does returning backhand from a backhand serve differ?
A serve is when you open the point, and a returning backhand is when you return the shot 👍
How about when the ball hits glass and dies?
Hey Sandy. Thanks for another great video. One question though, do you use a continental grip for this or you slightly change it so the racket would be more flat when it hits the ball?

Very nice yuo are e good theacher

What about the difference from a left handed server?
Nicolas Vandermarliere I talk about that for the sidespin, but the rest of the angles and slice/topspin etc don’t make a big difference. Only the sidespin can be a bit of a pain.
Are you using Neone or just overgrips?
I use a Noene grip and 2 overgrips on top...
Top!
Cheers!
Left-handed and most players insist I play on the right so all the serves come to my backhand ....bummer
Super!
Thank you very much!
💪🏽💪🏽
Great video as always!
I appreciate that
