    You would think after the centuries of production cars they could make one that doesn’t allow water ingress especially after the mark 1 C1 issues they could of sorted out a fix from factory on the Mark 2 C1 model it’s just shoddy design and workmanship on Citroen’s part ! Great video on how to find and fix the problem 👍

      Pitiful that this fault continues to future generations. So not to long before you'll be messing around with all the other seals.

    My wife's May-2016 C1 mk2 leaks like a sieve, left/right & centre. I definitely haven't the patience to fiddle about removing the trim and the brake light but wish I could find a trustworthy garage in the area between ManchesterLeeds who could go over it whilst doing an annual service.

    Just bought a C1 for my daughters first car and discovered water in the boot yesterday. Thanks for sharing this how-to at least I know where to start looking now. First thinking is the rear lights as they both have some play at the bottom when pushed but I’ll look at the other areas too.

    Thanks for saving me a heap of grief and time. I would have done the same as you to trace the root cause of the ingress.
    I managed to remove the light unit with a very slim flat screwdriver on the top clips.
    I applied sealer with a gun and, because I'm paranoid, stuck the nozzle in the wiring gaiter as well.
    I would also recommend fully assembling the unit before refitting it: especially if you have man-sized hands.
    Top marks guys.

    Great video, having had an Aygo, 107 and 108 I've used thick water-pump grease pressed into the gaps around the high level brake light and around the tops of the rear lights. This means they can be easily removed if needed but my boot has stayed dry.

    Here in the Netherlands I had the same problem with the top level brake light. First I was stupid to go to the Citroen dealer. The mechanic struggled a lot to remove the complete light and even broke it. Paid too much for a new one and after one month again water inside... :( My solution was even more simple: I just removed the inside lid, now the little water that gets inside can evaporate easy on dry days. No more water problems for 1,5 year so far. Of coarse some dust could get in now but I checked a few times and there is hardly any dust.

    The common reason the nut is missing is the garage have dropped it when removing or putting it back and it’s difficult to retrieve. Leaving it loose allows water to leak in through that thread which is why there is a seal on the outside, but it only works if tight.

    • @DABDIY

      It had been in the garage for some warranty work on the reversing camera, for which they had to strip the whole back end. I think you might well have nailed it with your explanation there 👍🏻

    So pleased that I came across this vid! I am new to the Citroen C1 which my wife recently purchased. One of the first C1 Mark 2’s which also came with the dreaded water leak into the boot. I would not have thought about water leaking in through the rear high level stop light had I not seen the video. Having taken off the small plastic plate behind the lamp, the water spilled out. Well done that lass for providing such a great instruction on the fix. All sorted now (I hope). Time will tell. Thanks again

    @12m50s - Using the silicon inside of the light fitting surely risks you basically glueing it into position? Surely better to do it from the outside only where you can remove it just with a plastic tool/credit card?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Silicone doesn’t stick as you seem to suggest it does. Once it’s cured, it forms a dry waterproof seal that comes away from the bodywork with a very small pull. Once the initial seal is broken, the rest peels away nice and easy.

      We have a 108 that is leaking in the boot. I looked at the brake light, but it looked bone dry. I can't see how water getting into the tail gate that's only connection to the body is the hinges, ends up inside the car.

    • @Lonewolf_rider
      @Lonewolf_rider ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bob-kb5pv if it's not the third break light than it could be one or both of the rear lights?
      Are you sure your rubber sealing is correct?
      About the third break light,it's the rubber around it that just don't seal of enough against the metal of the spoiler/roof.

I can make a gap wide enough along the top & sides of the light to mask it off and apply the silicone and clip it back. I don't believe leaking from the bottom of the light will be a problem but I'll keep a check on it. I'm going to have another go at it later... Thanks for the video , it did help a lot.

      It’s a 15” steel wheel, but it’s a space saver. Couldn’t tell you what size the type is.

    Wait I'm confused.... So the whole leak was coming from the brake light and not the holes that where pointed out at the start?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The leak was coming from the high level brake light. We got lucky with the rear light cluster.

    I have been needing to fix mine for a while - would you be able to take the lights out the same way you put them back in? Thinking what if I need to replace a bulb post-silicone?
    Great video well done 👍

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the bulbs come out separately to the bulb housing. Once you silicone the housing, the bulbs still come out as normal.

    Hi just seen this video. I wish I had spotted it before as i went through exactly same route. Good luck getting the brake light out! My head went and I smashed it out! Absolutely stupid fitting. Siliconed a second hand one in and seems to have worked. I also put a stick on seal on the body above the plugs as per Mk1 to direct water down and also had a slight leak at bottom of hatch which needed trim/seal adjusted.
    Question: I got a space saver wheel to replace the stupid repair kit and got the correct spare holder nut affair but if I fastened it down tight the wheel makes a noise over rough ground so it’s loose at the moment and it’s not too bad. It’s like the boot floor is too flimsy or i have a wrong wheel supplied! Anyone else had this issue?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never come across that spare wheel problem, but I’d be tempted to cut a corner a little and put a small blanket underneath it lol.
      If this were my car and if Liz didn’t have the patients of a saint, I’d have used a pry bar and smashed it out too lol.

    How do you remove the rear lights after you've removed that nut that was missing?
    Are the rear lights LED or are they bulbs?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once you’ve undone all then it’s that hold the lights to the bodywork, they just pull away from the car. The bulbs inside are normal incandescent bulbs, not LED. That said, this would be a perfect opportunity to upgrade to LED.

      They slide sideways towards the outside of the body. Clip on the outer edge...

    Just e guess. There should be drainage holes in the bottom of the hatch / boot door. Those holes are probably clogged and thats why the whole door is filled with water. When opening the hatch all water will off course flow to the top of the door with no escape.

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had considered that, so I went hunting for these drain holes. I found none, so my best guess here was that the manufacturer was relying on the light housing to seal the inside of the spoiler from the elements. Maybe I’ve missed the drain holes though. If you know where they are, please point them out to me!

      @@DABDIY There is a plug on both outer sides of the hinges. In the video the passenger side (grey plug) can be seen at 9:22. Could these be the drain holes? So the plugs shouldn't be there anymore?

    Have exactly this issue with my wife's C1. We took all the felt off from the inside and could see the water pouring behind the grey plastic shell (you removed this...I haven't as yet).
    I am guessing that this solved the issue then?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue was completely resolved, yes. I went for the nuclear option of removing the bulkhead vents and welded them up just to be different from everyone else on TH-cam. The normal method of sealing these is to take them off, remove the damaged seal, fill the channel with silicone (don’t be shy with it!) and then clip them back in. Might also we worth smearing the overspill around the join between the vent and bodywork. That’ll make sure that they’re fully sealed.

      @@DABDIY good, I’ve managed to get the light out going to get sealant. I just don’t understand the connection between the tailgate and the water getting into the boot? It’s a separate piece of metal, how does it find its way into the boot well from the top brake light? What’s the trail?

    • @DABDIY
      @DABDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I can tell, it’s a folded piece of metal. Water can get past the folds and into the boot. In the case of this vehicle in the video, the rear light cluster was loose, so water made its way in via that gap.
