What an underrated score. This perfectly encapsulates Anakin’s entire life. Anakin’s theme sounds so nostalgic and innocent, but at the same time there’s that dread and hint of sadness. Same goes for Love Across the Stars. It’s like his life is destined for sadness
As we grow older, we gradually understand what Anakin`s story is really all about... When we`re kids, it`s such a different story isn`t it? But as time passes, we get disappointed by people, and we eventually disappoint others... We see ourselves in situations which seem like there`s no way out... And it doesn`t really matter how hard we try, or what we do... In the end, we are often the villains in other people`s stories, and sometimes, even in our very own... This song is a master piece. So are the prequels, with all of their flaws.
How is it underrated? It's one of the most popular SW themes ever! Even the people who didn't enjoy the prequel movies tend agree that John Williams outdid himself, some going so far as to say that the music he wrote for the prelogy even surpasses what he composed for the original trilogy.
What I remember about the rise of the Empire is… is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip; We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word.
Like someone else here commented, there´s actually a lot of the Imperial March hidden in this piece of music, together with the motifs for the Force and for Luke. They´re just hints, but when you listen carefully, they´re there 🙂
You can hear the imperial theme most clearly there, but if you listen closely, you can hear the Imperial march throughout the entirety of Anakin's theme. Williams disguised it with a very different key and altered the rhythm to hide the "march" but Anakin's theme is essentially a mix of the Imperial march and the themes for the Force and for Luke. If you analyze the notes, you can find the basic structure for all three themes, interwoven to create something new. It's absolutely brilliant.

In the normal score of the film for across the stars, you can faintly hear the tuba in the background, but in this video, the tuba stands out at 3:32 when the song crescendos into the beautiful masterpiece that is Across the stars. It gives me chills when I hear it since I am a tuba player but as well as shows that every single instrument has a role that is crucial for the delivery of the theme and as well shows the true masterminds brilliance that is John Williams. George Lucas may have created the star wars universe and showed us the true beauty of it but John Williams emphasized on Lucas's actions and gave it heart and emotion and depth to intertwine the beauty of film and a perfect orchestral score. I say this all of the time and I feel that it's true, star wars would have never become the thing that it is today without John Williams. In order for a movie to be good, it must have a director who knows what he is doing, but for a movie to be great and beyond is for the director and composer to know exactly what they're doing and that is what star wars is. It's unfortunate and heartbreaking that he will not return to star wars but he will ALWAYS have a place to be loved and respected by star wars fans for generations to come and his name will be etched into history as one of the greatest composers of all time. May the force be with you guys
Poor Ani- even this exquisite music sounds longing to forgive him for his fated life. The Ani Padme theme is so lovely, just drenched in tender romance and utter tragedy.
When I was doing my grad work, my orchestration professor used Anakin’s theme in one of his lessons. Most of his lessons talked about film scoring, which was one of the best classes I’ve ever taken in my life. Hearing the parallels between that theme and the imperial March is just chilling.
Agree on music but not story wise. TPM was just pointless and didn’t add anything to the saga, AOTC should’ve been the first movie and it was alright though I don’t like the Padme being in danger plot, TCW should’ve been the second movie. ROTS is the best of the 3 but still not great. I never got the whole Padme dying thing. It was alright, just poorly executed, and OT does everything else than music better

The truly wonderful thing that John Williams did here was go back to the Imperial March that he had written years before and reset it as the innocent theme for young Annakin. Musically, you can hear the origins of an evil character as a lad. I think it’s quite brilliant.
at the first momento all I can hear a innocent child, really inteligent and happy, and then passion, and it's intensity can become anger and can lead to evil and suffering, but there is also hope, love seems to be a hope but no, and then I can hear it all together passion, love, anger and tragedy.

That is an English Horn (Cor Anglias in Europe) and it is like twice as difficult as an oboe. I actually think his second to last note was supposed to be an octave lower.
Oh wow! Thank you 😁 it's funny to me because the cor anglais looks and sounds nothing like the French horn (cor français) And what makes the cor anglais so difficult to play?

One of the best things to come out of the prequels (Attack of the Clones). Such a masterpiece. And props to the Danish Symphony, I like their version the best.
The rise and fall of an individual of great promise who allowed very adverse circumstances to destroy him, thus becoming the very opposite of what he had set out to be in the first place. He sought redemption at the last moment, and to a certain extent, he was granted some of it after a life of evil deeds. All of that in a masterful piece by maestro Williams. This and the Light of the Force are exceptional bookends to the Anakin Skywalker drama.
If there's one thing the prequeles had in spades was the soundtrack. It was as good as the original imo. That alone makes it better then the Disney trilogy. This one. for exemple, perfectly tells the fall of Anakin into darkness only by the score.
