Man...what a ride...thank you... very much. You deserve much more viewers and subs, for all your work in content creation. Watching this...made me want to buy an old PC for a genuine experience...
holy crap, I had forgotten about playing Grand Prix when I was a kid, but seeing the early CGI intro movie jogged loose that memory! I couldn't ever forget that!
Nice channel , fun videos, only just found out your channel with latest video about my personal fav year of dos games... 1992: cause Dune 2 and Wolfenstein 3D are my first RTS and FPS experience I will never forget. I played that on our 286 when everyone else was playiny doom 1 and c&c on a higher 386 , 486 or even pentium. Pcs where expensive back then and you played what you could! Anyway liked and subscribed
I played Wolfenstein 3D in 1994 at a high school computer, 286, with colored monitor, keyboard only. Didn't know Ultima Underworld beat it to be the first 3D game before watching your video! I was so attracted to it, I don't want to do anything else. But I only have time after lunch in a school day.
@rondonnis6588Yeah. My classmate accessed teacher's computer, a workstation kind, that computer even had a UPS. He found the games, and copied to computers for students. There are only 2 with color monitor. We also have excuses because were in programming club. One day the whole school were listening to a speech, but the four of us said we need to prepare for the programming contest so we went to the lab. Then there was a knock on the door. One of my classmate went to open the door and it was my teacher. While I was exiting Wolf 3D, the screen shows the menu, a pistol points to the choices. My teacher saw that. I am not sure if he knew that was a game. If he had asked, I would just run Windows 1.0 and say that is modern programs with GUI. But he didn't say anything.
Great list with lots of familiar titles. Fate of atlantis was fantastic - amazing pixel art, animation and that signature adlib music sound never gets old! Man, Lucas Arts were gods back then.. 😉 Cheers!
I got my 1st pc in 1992. I was only 9 years old and this period was a miracle for me. Also the whole `90s, especially the next forward years. So many good games in this period... Scorched Earth, Dune II, Monkey Island, Golden Axe, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Heretic, Sim Farm, Sim City, CnC, Quake, Red Alert, Unreal, Settlers, Warcraft, Need for Speed, Little Big Adventure, etc. Best PC years i think.
Really feeling like I missed out back in the day. Great list of games. I particularly like the Dune based game. I loved playing Supremacy on the Amiga. So many hours gone in the blink of an eye.
I've been playing home video games since 1981 when I got an Atari 2600. I later upgraded to a Colecovision, then finally a Sega Genesis. After that I officially switched to PC and never got another game console again. Not even an Xbox. It's been PC ever since. Dune 2 was the first game that I ever played for 6 hours straight. The game was everything I was hoping for it to be. I don't think the label "real time strategy" was even used yet for games of this type. Back in those days, I didn't understand the difference between "real time" and "turn based". I preferred "real time" whether I knew what it was called or not. Eventually I moved on to the Command and Conquer games. PC games that blew me away over the years since I started playing PC games in 1988 whether it was graphics, gameplay or both. King's Quest 3 (first PC game I ever played) Dune 2 (first game I found addicting) Battlefield 1942 (first online multiplayer I played) Morrowind (I remember being blown away by the 3d graphics, especially the water in the game and how big it was) Grand Theft Auto 3 The Witcher 3 (possibly the best RPG I played and that's mostly what I play) Red Dead Redemption 2
Dune 2 was the last game I bought for my old 286 pc that a friend of the family had given me. It was hopelessly out of date by then and I couldn’t really play much on it after that, was too poor to afford a another pc for the next ten years so I remember that game fondly and sadly
Thank you so much for sharing your memories and experience! And I believe that Dune 2 ran pretty well even on a 286, right? Thanks again for stopping by! Cheers!
I definitely would have put Ultima VII: The Black Gate as one of the best. It set new standards for RPG games and blended psychological elements into the storytelling. The entire time you played that game, you were under the impression someone was watching you.
great vid, I would just replace one of the games from the list with star control 2. but since IRL nothing is 100% aside from death so this is the best top 10 list i have seen!
Indy is really the amazing one, but also Dune 1. 😊 It was really a game that was different from everything else, and followed the vibe of the books and movie quite well.
Dune absolute deserves to be in this list. I played it quite a bit, but never actually completed any of the missions. But without it there would've never been Command & Conquer which I played really much. Also iirc Warcraft came also later, which is also heavily similar on many levels gameplay wise. Very influential game.
Stunts from 1990 was one of my favorite racing games, you got to build your own tracks... Civilization in 1991, great game. No mention of Mortal Combat in 1992?😮
Yeah, Stunts is amazing! Check my Top 10 from 1990: th-cam.com/video/z1kDVHLTD70/w-d-xo.html And also my Top 10 from 1991, where Civilization is featured: th-cam.com/video/XDGNNciO6cQ/w-d-xo.html As for Mortal Kombat, it was released for MS-DOS only by 1993 ;)
Comanche Overkill , it was the basis for the novalogic world, the textures were used in the next games in the series, in delta force and in F-22. Wolf3d is Wolf3d, thats over! Dune2 the first real strategic game i have played and Formula One Grand Pix for me, is the best F1 simulation realease! Fate of Atlantis was based on the script for Indiana Jones' fourth film, they gave up and made the game. Nice Video!
I used to go to a weekly computer club in the late 80's and early 90's (basically a place to copy floppy discs) - I saw Comanche Maximum Overkill running on someone's PC and think it was the most realistic thing I had ever seen. Can also say about Wolfenstein, just because someone puts a price on something, doesn't mean it's worth it.
My top 10 would have definitely had Jill of the Jungle, not only included in the list, but on the first place as well. Also games like Secret Agent and Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure would be high in the list.
Nice :) I see that you're a huge Apogee fan! :) Thanks for sharing! Have to check out Secret Agent and Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure. Never played those two ;) Cheers!

It's really, really good! One of my top 10 point and click adventure games ever made :) thank you so much for watching and for sharing your memories from back in the day! Cheers!
