Only those who grew up watching star blazers(running home after school) or watching space "cruiser" yamato on the saturday film festival (channel 5 in L.A) can respect and have the deep feelings seeing this movie come to life! Even tho its not dead accurate it is pretty dam close,i myself cannot wait to watch this as a adult and see somthing i would have never dreamed coming to life! Yamato was,has and will always be my favorite sci fi anime, cartoon or movie ever made! As a child and adult!!
@Nowhereman10 Dessler (aka Deslok) was portrayed in this live action adaptation by the same person who played him in the original anime. His name is Masato Ibu. They also were able to get the original voice actor for Analyzer (IQ-9) ; Kenichi Ogata for the movie as well.
This was the cartoon that started me drawing and the first anime I ever watched. I remember back in grade 4 singing the theme song on my way to school and back home! This is a treasure and hope someday to see. I give props to the guy who uploaded this!
The ship's interior reminds me of the Gotengo from Godzilla Final Wars, which is a good thing because that movie was awesome. The idea of making the most powerful battleship ever built into a spaceship is just awesome. The Japanese really know what they're doing. Also, the movie looks great considering it had a relatively low budget.
I grew up to star blazers too. Man I loved that show. I really liked the comet Empire Series. :) Was one of my Favorite. This movie makes me weep and I haven't even seen it yet. :)
this is awsome to see, I remember star blazers / space battleship yamato as a kid and I still use it to judge all other anime I really hope it is released in the US so I can see it.
When I was in high school, this show was on wpix 11 in NY (i think) & would come on at 3:30 p.m. but I would get out of school at 2:27! Because betamax's were either not available then or 2 expensive, I used a light timer connected 2 an old b&w tv & a tape recorder so I could at least "hear what parts I missed. I would ride like a bat out of hell 2 get home just 2 miss as little as possibile. I cant wait to see this! I even remember the last 5 min's of season 1 final episode word for word .
It is amazing to me how many of you feel as I do, is it because we saw this in our youth? As someone else said, so far the movie is so faithful to the cartoon. I find tears coming to my eyes at some of this stuff, but I think part of the reason is because it is SO WELL DONE!!! I can't stand Hollywood remakes (La Femme Nakita for one), I just wish they would release this here with subtitles - out of respect for the creators.
@Lightscribe225 Yes they did. Some of the cast was there as guest chefs. Cooking shows over in Japan are like talk shows in the U.S., lots of them and very popular.
@Nowhereman10 They got the original VOICE actor to play Desler in the movie. I don't want to spoil it, but the Gamalis are not humanoids in this film. As for the special effects, remember that this clip only shows a few minutes of the raising of Yamato. Also, whatever clips and previews you've seen on TH-cam aren't the finished product. This movie had a budget of 22 billion yen; just over of $271,000,000, so it had a large budget and great special effects
I would love to see a Hollywood release of, Star Blazers, with either, Peter Jackson or, James Cameron in the Director's chair. It has the potential of being a trilogy. I was a big fan of the cartoon series when I was a child.
A news! Americans are going to make "Starblazer" live movie inspired by this work! Yamato's gonna be global! I hope they'll use the original Miyagawa music! It's neat that the first Yamato anime was made about 30 years after sinking of Senkan Yamato and the live Yamato movies are being made about 30 years after "Final Yamato." Japan's undisputably greatest work!
@RX78 Thanks for the clarification on that. My Yen/Dollar conversion came from and online currency converter. Guess I won't be using that site again. Still for what is in the U.S. a very low budget it looked fantastic.
Man i wish they showed this in theaters for a day or two in America like they did Gantz! this looks badass too!!! Plus Takuya Kimura is like the fuckn man so i REALLY want to see it on the big screen!!
Seeing these clips and eagerly awaiting the movie to make it here... Haveing been a fan sence my very first episode of "blazers' all those years ago...It does my heart and soul good in seeing the characters and Yamato come to life! The new effects and detals are amazing. Personally, I'm happy and relieved that hollywood didn't remake it... I can't wait to see this film! And, honestly, am proud to have had my own little fan site all these years. B.D.R. The E.D.F. Drawing Board
Fireing on the ultra menace missle with the wave motion gun! Priceless!!! I would match the yamato against the death star, galactica or any other would be battle/star ship from any anime or movie,Yamato wins hands down!!!
first at all : starblazers is the name that the English translators gave to 'Uchū Senkan Yamato (Spaceship Yamato ' , a japanese anime, because it is very long . second, this anime vessel is based on the real Yamato-class battleships from Japan.
They built it from within the wreck, so that the construction wouldnt be noticed. The anime even shows the base underneath the wreck, and when it takes off, shows the command tower of the wreck breaking away to reveal the new one.
@MrYamato67 In NYC it came on at 2:30 in the afternoon. I remember because I use to get off from work at 2:00 PM and would make a mad dash home to catch it.( Star Blazers but in the ending credits they showed the original title of the series space cruiser Yamato) I already like Anime from watching the first Astro boy series back in the 60's. I'm just waiting for the blu ray release of this in Japan.
Only two days until the Blu Ray release, which means those of us who ordered it should have it by the wnd of the month. I'm chomping at the bit to watch it.
@itachispetkitty They had a screening of it at a film festival in California sometime in November of last year. I heard it had English subtitles. The movie is great!!!! I was over there in late December and saw it in Kobe. My Blu-Ray came yesterday and the quality of it's fantastic. If you can understand Japanese you should definately get it. I bought mine through CD Japan.
@DavidFullam For what I understand; pretty well. Debuted at number 1 on the Japanese box-office, ousting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1).
Check Suncoast or F.Y.E. at the mall, even try your local Comic Book shop. They tend to deal with a lot of japanimae films, and being this is based on japanese Animae you might have a Greater chance finding it there.
@Kagetora2010 Yeah, I really don't want to give too much away, but look at the second trailer. Freeze frame at 1:04 in the video. There's a pretty descent image of one of them attacking the Yamato crew.
Watche dit today and for the most part really enjoyed it. Good action, awesome effects work, set design, and costumes. Sympathetic characters, and it preserved the spirit of the original. Best of all, only a little bit of cheese. My only real dissapointment was the ending, which I won't spoil. But those who've seen it know what I mean.
Just saw the listings on CDJapan for the movie. The Blu-Ray releases are marked as Region-Free. No English subtitles, but don't have to shell out the cash for an R2 player.
When i watched this on someones channle as the old cartoon style i was hooked and also i hope they have an english subbed version of this in the states soon.
I loved the cartoon when I was a kid and can't wait to see this movie. Hopefully it will be available on DVD before long. Anyone know if there's a chance of it being shown in American theaters?
They cut off the Wave Motion Gun firing!!? O.O Man, what a buzz-kill. lol I loved Starblazers when I was a kid. I wonder if there's a version of this with English subtitles.
@RobotPorter It will be awsome, I read up that they are working on it, It's just not coming out in a little while. I think it said it might be releaced in 2012.
@SchwarzesDreizehn theres movies which reference world war 2 germany as well should they be banned from global distribution? i think not. This in fact aside from the name of the ship is nothing to do with WW2 its a spaceship, they werent around in 1945. I'm from australia and i would love to get my hands on an english subtitled copy of this movie. So i eagerly await news of such a DVD release
In it's fansubtitled form, the movie turned out pretty good. But I would love to see the full version of whatever show this is, maybe get an idea of why the guys are dressed like Mighty Morphin Iron Chef Rangers
@trekmd Get it, mine came yesterday and it is well worth it. Even if you don't speak the language you should be able to follow along if you are a fan of the anime.
@SammEater Ola brother, sim Yamato é muito legal, vi a serie cometa imperio na rede manchete iteira, a rede manchete tinha um cache de desenhos da hora, com Don Dracula, Pirata do Espaço etc Forte espaço
@MrYamato67 You called it true, bro. WUAB, Channel 43, Lorain-Cleveland for me. That and Battle of the Planets, baby...afterward, a little Atari or Intellivision and some Fruit Roll Ups.
I must say for a film that has a budget a quarter of that of the Star Trek movie, this looks promising. One question about the end though, did they just play this trailer on a cooking show or something? What's with the chefs?
I only want to see this movie as is with English subs! If Hollywood would ever copy something like this you know Michael Bay would be their 1st pick.... Oh the humanity!!
@RobotPorter Check again. I just looked and there are several sellers with this movie with English subs. They all seem to be out of Malaysia so I'm a bit wary of the legitimacy of it however. I'm sure it's the movie but I don't want a copy that features people in the audience passing in front of the camera with popcorn.
this movie is absolutely awesome to watch i only query the use of signage used in the film being in english why they didnt release a dubbed version. i do get tired reading for 131 minutes :)
@bobdefalco Amen!!! LOL!! cant forget battle of the planets,i also was lucky enough to get "supercar gattiger" as well! Atari 2600...state of the art 1983!!!
i remeber as akid getting up way early just too watch this cartoon me and my brother still talk about it he told me it is amovie too bad i dont read japanese kinda sad hopefully the blue ray will have subtitles if anyone knows pls let me know ty
It's bad enough that they're being STINGY with this flick... then they keep teasing us and teasing us... They could at LEAST subtitle the thing... I WANNA SEE THIS JOINT!!!!!!!!!

Holy Crap! I loved the anime as a kid...and it's still one of my favorites. It looks like they really nailed it.God, it looks badass! Thanx.

Awesome movie; probably watched it 50-100 times since I got the Blu-Ray last year.
@Barricade I will admit to tearing up as well. This is just beautiful.

A childhood favorite for many of us growing up. WILDSTAR! FIRE THE WAVE MOTION GUN!
The moment the rocks starting sliding down the bridge, I openly wept.
I won't even attempt to deny it.

@SutaSafaia They used the shock cannon in the cartoon. You are right.
the engineering chief pretty much reminds me of Scotty in Star Trek TOS movies :p
Oh man...where is Sulu ? He should be driving....he never once got lost in Star Trek :). I wanna see this !!!!!
turn on captions and set them to english and you will die of laughter

I bought the movie, well it was like 1 year ago, when the movies were not subbed for computer.
God, I wish they make a live action Robotech / Macross. this looks awesome.
@DavidFullam

Even the uniforms are the same. I like it.

Wow, they made a live action version of this!
"Hurry, Starforce, only have 365 days left to save the Earth" I remember it going something like that.
sucks that they cut it off right when they were about to fire the wave motion gun. impressive special effects for a japanese movie.
Just saw the listings on CDJapan for the movie. The Blu-Ray releases are marked as Region-Free. No English subtitles, but don't have to shell out the cash for an R2 player.

You can probably try to search it on Bakabt. You will have it if it is not licensed in the US
@RobotPorter Official release date in Japan is 6/24/11 for both DVD and BluRay
I loved the cartoon when I was a kid and can't wait to see this movie. Hopefully it will be available on DVD before long. Anyone know if there's a chance of it being shown in American theaters?
I so hope that we are gonna see this with what happened in Japan.
They cut off the Wave Motion Gun firing!!? O.O Man, what a buzz-kill. lol I loved Starblazers when I was a kid. I wonder if there's a version of this with English subtitles.

Wow wow wow! I never liked Japanese movies but this looks bad ass!

You know, unless I'm completely mistaken, doesn't the Argo use it's shock cannons to take out the carrier and not the wave motion gun?
@MrYamato67 You called it true, bro. WUAB, Channel 43, Lorain-Cleveland for me. That and Battle of the Planets, baby...afterward, a little Atari or Intellivision and some Fruit Roll Ups.
@gunplanut What? You mean the Gamilons/Gamiras/Gamalis are no longer humans with blue skin? Very cool. >;D
I must say for a film that has a budget a quarter of that of the Star Trek movie, this looks promising. One question about the end though, did they just play this trailer on a cooking show or something? What's with the chefs?
hope they do an english version, looks sweet as fuck
Impressive for any movie. But Ive never seen Japanese CG used for Space Sci Fi before. Must be the first for me....
I only want to see this movie as is with English subs! If Hollywood would ever copy something like this you know Michael Bay would be their 1st pick.... Oh the humanity!!

@pinoi78 Yeah, it would be nice....I found out from CD Japan that anything released over there is never subbed.
this movie is absolutely awesome to watch i only query the use of signage used in the film being in english why they didnt release a dubbed version. i do get tired reading for 131 minutes :)

I loved the Anime when I was a kid! When is it coming to the USA? I wanna see it!
It's bad enough that they're being STINGY with this flick... then they keep teasing us and teasing us... They could at LEAST subtitle the thing... I WANNA SEE THIS JOINT!!!!!!!!!
I hope they have the part where Avatar goes "QUIEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!"
Japan has some awesome movies too bad they don't have all the hd effects that Hollywood uses.
