Infinite Universe has to be one the the best space music pieces ever. It captures Hope, Joy, Sadness, and Expectation. The Future of Mankind will have all these things.
Doesn't it remind you of that scene where they were so far away from Earth that they were able to see the Earth that was still untouched from bombardment?

There are DVD's and Blu rays available yes. The story is faithful, except for a few small changes that honestly make it even better - there are a few new female characters, other than that the spirit of the show is fully intact. The space battles have been done in very very good cartoonish looking CG.The music has been remastered and reorchestrated by the original composer's son. All the voicework is topnotch...no english dub but unless it's Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing quality I don't want it. The remake is WORTH IT! I watched 2199 and now have gone back and watched Space Battleship Yamato (starblazers 1974) in japanese (eng subtitles) and it is amazing. I'm now in the Comet Empire episodes.....I love how IQ-9 is always harrasing Yuki. There are quite a few little bits theat got cut or edited for the American Starblazers. Namely people dying, sucked out of airlocks or decompressed in space, and Sake drinking on the job by a doctor, and cats and robots drunk on sake. They changed it to "spring water" ok buddy lol
The only thing that wasn't nice in 2199 is Kodai's brother. In the original, Kodai finds his brother actually living on Iscandar, and it is one of the best moments of the original series. In the 2199 series, the ship has the ghost of Mamoru, and Susumu does not get to meet him. 2199 is so nice that they have put hints of the Comet Empire in it. And the final battle is a blast, as is the strategy of Yamato in the midpoint planet with the artificial sun.
This is the art. Time for many of the japanese to review the concept of so-called "anime". It well deserves higher appreciation as frequently do people outside japan. We japanese may learn from them. An amazing performance here. Reminder of diva song in the 5th element.

are you also taking into account the live action movie. if it was a new build then the producers would have kept the spacious interior aand size of series build intact. but what depicted was probably highly modified original bridge and cramp confines more int line with that of roiginal ship. even landing bay would be somthing that could have fit on the yamato
