  • The Free P4 is a spectacular multi-tool! Watch the video for the reasons why.
    The other version is the P2, not the P3 as mentioned in the video.

    Looks like a good multi-tool. It's amazing what decades of engineering and listening to customer feedback can do.
    Sure looks like Leo likes it!

      Agreed, Curt! It is a great tool! Continuous improvement is a trait we really appreciate! Yes Leo likes anything that involves being with everybody.

    I think that folks that say the Free series are junk have not spent much time with them. I have been carrying and using Leatherman tools since the mid 90's, currently own at least one of every model they have offered, except the OHT which I had and got rid of, and I truly believe the Free series will be a turning point for Leatherman in their design philosophy, helping them to lead the way into the Multitool future. Are they perfect? No,nothing in this world is perfect, but I can carry any Leatherman I want and the P2 finds it's way into my pocket more than all the others combined.
    Try one if they fit your budget, you Might be surprised. The Wave/Surge tools are truly industry Pioneers, but these are the next step in Evolution.

    I bought the Freep4 for 1 month. Leaving aside the issue of tool assortment, IT IS THE BEST QUALITY AND MOST ADVANCED DESIGN MULTITOOL EVER BUILT. FOR the first time leatherman surpassed the precision and build quality of the victorinox swisstool. !! (I own 8 leatherman 3 victorinox spirit swisstool and 1 gerber) Everything in the free is perfect, very tight tolerances, no difference between one side and the other and .... TOTAL ABSENCE OF PLAY IN EVERY INSTRUMENT! The engineering and build quality is at a much higher level than any other leatherman. And this time also to victorinox! Furthermore, the cost is partially justified by the enormous construction complexity compared to other multitools. It has many more parts and pieces than any other multitool.

    Why 4 flat head screwdrivers, 2 of them would have been enough, and instead 2 most common torx head screwdrivers / hexagon head screwdrivers! : ) Thanks for your perspective!

      I would like to second your recommendation for a torx and hex head drivers! Unfortunately we will have to endure the grandfathering-in of Phillips heads for some time longer. What an absolute nightmare. I pray my children will not have to suffer this stupidity.

    They should make a pouch for the p4 ! And include a attachable bit kit that would be awesome!

    • @proteqcustomgear
      @proteqcustomgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes with a decent sheath from Leatherman. It doesn't have a bit driver but I suppose you could use pliers to torque the bit once it's finger tight.

    • @mackjones7688
      @mackjones7688 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZapWizard and Shapeways have solved almost all of the design oversights with the P4. With T shank adapter, 4mm bit driver and Flat bit drivers available for purchase. 3D printed sheath is available to hold the P4 with bits and blades after adding his upgrades.

      @@mackjones7688 would you put a flat bit driver or the 4mm bit driver?

    • @mackjones7688
      @mackjones7688 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@young_of_the_mill9560 Hmmm. That is a good question. I have a the flat bit kit for my Surge. It's very convenient. I would probably go with the 4mm for my P2. The bits are easy to get from various sources. I bought my leatherman bit kit from a store for $19.99. I can't find those kits anymore. So my only option if I need more leatherman bits is to buy online. So I think that for regular use. 4mm has it's benefits. I could also order high quality 4mm bits from a reputable manufacturer online. That's my 2 cents. Hope it helps. Either way you go, I think you can't go wrong with a bit adapter. It allows you with a handful of bits, to customize your tool for your own personal needs. Which will vary from other people. For example. If you use your Leatherman to adjust and perform maintenance on electronics or pocket knives. A few Torx 4mm would allow you to use your P2 or P4 more often. Instead of chasing down a precision 4mm driver for the job.

    • @proteqcustomgear

      For an improvised solution, sure it would. But I would not view it as a purpose-built self defense knife like a Ka-Bar TDI, for example.

      @proteqcustomgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting. I'll have to check out the Victorinox Swisstool. After having used the P4 for several months now I can say it hasn't failed me even once, and I've used every component except the electrical connector crimpers. Have you tried the P4?

    • @petelopez5826
      @petelopez5826 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ProTEQ Custom Gear and ProTEQ Firearms Academy No I haven’t. I have the leatherman surge with all the bit kit It just feels clunky and not refined. I looked at the P4 it just looks not as tough and the tools are so much smaller than other tools. Check out the swisstool/swisstool x or the swisstool spirit/swisstool spirit x. I’ve used leatherman while I was in Marines, but when of my fellow marines introduced me to the victorinox never looked back. Just love them.
