    I appreciate the ingenuity of the P2 and P4, but between the cost and tool quality/selection the Wave and Charge series would be a far better value. I can see the P2 and P4 being great for someone with disabilities though.

    I hate to see the Juice S2 discontinued. I hiked Philmont in 2010, 2013, and 2016 using a Juice S2. It is a Backpacker Magazine best pick for several years. It had a great ratio of weight to function.

    Love the old charge al, I have one I heavily modded.
    Juice is sadly discontinued, I didn’t like the new ones but I have two old s2’s a d an xe6.
    The new Leatherman Bond is now my daily carry, nice and light.

    My only gripe with the P4 is the magnet I work in a metal shop and all the metal in the air gathers on the magnets and binds everything up cannot get it off the magnets when it's all in between everything

    one- I hope they come out with a better steel option (like the charge tti) two - do you think the magnets would have a bad effect on cell phone if left in the same pocket, or would it also be annoying if i have my olight in the same pocket or something magnetic

  • @roy-batty
    @roy-batty 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the one reason you don't get a diamond file or a metal file is the presence of MAGNETS. It's on a rather expensive side. It's not superior to Wave, it offers something different, and yet it's much more expensive.

    Lacks the bit driver, and the new blade shape sucks. Even that joke of a file and ruler is pathetic. I'm still on the fence on getting a P4, the price is too high. Honestly it's just a Cadillac Wingman. My last two purchases were the G10 Charge+ and Forest Camo Charge+. Not really a huge step up in my opinion, even the Rebar feels more rugged and reliable for how small and low in cost it is.

  • @KoenMiseur
    @KoenMiseur 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To bad it cost alot more in Europe, it's €189,95 here (about 210 USD!) so it cost about twice as much as a Wave! That and 2 very annoying bad things: NO bitdriver and u don't get a pocketclip included (with the p2 u get it though, weird af)!
    I've always been looking for better tools than the Wave (that I carry daily for about 14 years now!) but or they have less features or they cost alot more or are heavier. This would be a very good contender but the price is to much and I need a bitdriver!

    I personally hate the new sheath that Leatherman has been using(rivet snap)!!! The sheath is way too stiff and the flap which snaps closed onto the rivet is way too tall(not tight/snug enough) and leaves a noticeable gap between the top of the Free P2&P4 and the actual flap itself!!! As far as the Free P2&P4 goes the tools inside are just odd/weird and really make no sense at all, and some of the design choices are also odd!!! Why does the spine of the main blade stick up well past the edge of the Free P2&P4 handle, but the saw blade on the Free P4 when closed sits flush and even with the handle? When it comes to the tools on the Free series the package opener on the Leatherman P2&P4 is really not that great!!! On the other hand, the package opener on the Leatherman Wingman comes to a narrow fine curved sharpened edge which allows you to easily pierce the thick plastic edge of clamshell packaging and easily slice it open. The package opener on the Free P2&P4 just looks like they just tried to lazily sharpen the corner edge of a flathead screwdriver!!! It's not as sharp as it should be and it's a lot easier for this package opener to just simply slide/skip off of the clamshell packaging while you're trying to slice it open, which can be dangerous!!! What really annoys me is that Leatherman already had perfected the package opener which was on the Wingman, so then why not just add that same awesome package opener to the Free P2&Free P4 instead of trying to reinvent it? It's just the case of Leatherman trying to combine two already existing tools into one(pry tool&package opener) and the result of doing that ends up just creating one lackluster, not so useful tool basically an all in one pry/package opener tool!!! The more that I've been using my Leatherman Free P2, the more I'm not liking the various tools that Leatherman decided to put in it!!! Also how the hell do you end up messing up an awl!!! An awl is supposed to have a very sharp/pointy end in order to pierce thick material like leather!!! Adding a micro screwdriver to the end/tip of the awl just makes the awls tip completely dull and therefor makes the awl completely useless!!! You shouldn't add one tool to another if adding the second tool completely removes the functionality of the first tool, which seems to be the main theme of both the Leatherman P2&P4!!! Then there's perhaps the most useless tool ever put into a multitool ever, the "mini ruler/medium flathead screwdriver" that's on the Free P2&P4!!! A ruler that's made this miniature is just completely useless and a complete waste of valuable space in a multitool!!! The medium flathead screwdriver that's part of the mini ruler also has a chisel ground tip that comes to a very thin edge/tip, which causes the medium flathead screwdriver to not function that well. The bigger a screw head gets the wider the slot is made in it for the screwdrivers head. So by making the tip of the medium flathead screwdriver on the Free P2&P4 chisel ground the tip/edge is way too small(thin) to properly fit into the slot of a medium flathead screw slot and therefore has play/wiggle room!!! The chisel tip also creates a ramp effect and the narrow tip/edge of the medium flathead screwdriver just ends up turning within the flathead screws slot before slipping out. The tip of the medium flathead screwdriver should have been made the thickness of a standard normal screwdriver(no chisel grind) so it would fit perfectly in the slot of a medium-sized flathead screw so you can turn the flat head screw without having any play!!! The can opener on the Free P2&P4 is for some reason the same not so great can opener seen in most older Victorinox Swiss army knives!!! Why didn't Leatherman just reuse the same amazing can opener seen/used in the Wingman!!! So that being said, what I do actually really like about the Leatherman Free P2&P4. I really like the magnetic balisong like opening, it's the best opening deployment method of any multitool ever in my opinion!! The magnetic tool deployment system/method is also the best I've ever seen!!! Every tool opens easily and locks in place without any play or wiggle at all, which is amazing!!! The plier head on the Fee P2&P4 has a slightly redesigned shape and is a lot more robust, combined with the replaceable wire cutters make this simply the best multitool plier head ever!!! But the tools that Leatherman decided to create/include in the Free P2&P4 are just simply odd/bizarre and completely don't make any sense at all!!! I was so initially hyped when I first saw the balisong action of the Leatherman Free P2&P4 in a January 2019 ShotShow TH-cam video, but after buying and using the Leatherman Free P2 for six months I was more than a little bit disappointed and triggered!!! What a letdown, the Leatherman Free P2&P4 had such amazing potential for true greatness!!!

      These are really good points that I would have missed in my rush to enjoy the frictionless opening! Thank you for writing this in-I plan to wait on this. Magnetic closure will likely stay-and new versions will optimize the tools. Thank you for your note!

      @@lvoss2534 The Leatherman Free(P ,K,T series) in my opinion were disappointing for sure. The knife/gear community has been complaining and bitching about how lackluster they are to Leatherman since they were first released. The Late Boy Scout's review of these new Leatherman Free P4 and K&T series of multitool was very lackluster, lacked a lot of detail/info and felt odd to me!!! It felt odd to me because it almost seemed like he hadn't really actually carried That Leatherman P4 and use it at all. Because if he had carried and used the Free P4 he would have for sure noticed how weird/shitty the tools inside and then would have talked about them in detail in the review, but he didn't for some reason!!! Here's a pro knife/multitool and gear buying pro tip, before ever buying a pocket knife or multi-tool watch at least 15-20 TH-cam reviews of it. Also I personally feel that small TH-cam channels give the best/most honest reviews on products because they're not sponsored by companies or online gear dealers and are not paid or given free gear to do product reviews!!! Smaller TH-cam channels won't have a bias or agenda when going reviews, what I'm trying to say is that you have to look at every product review with a grain of salt!!!

    Con esa Free P4, Letherman le hace competencia a la Victorinox Swisstool- Spirit... Pero no es precisamente por sus magnetos, sino porque Letherman por fin entendió que un diseño más simple pero bien pensado, con acceso a la mayoria de sus herramientas sin necesidad de abrirla, era la mejor manera de hacerle sombra a la marca Suiza. Y buen punto para Letherman al desarrollar esa T4 complementaria; sin embargo, aún esta por verse si consiguen mover de su trono a la ya mítica Spirit de Ibach; el tiempo lo dirá.

If I were on a deserted island and I could only have one multitool the Surge hands down would be my pick. Check out this holster for the P4. It's fantastic. 🗡
