It's very disappointing to me how little love the Star Ocean series gets. From naming conventions to budget to a lack of marketing, there are a lot of things that seem to push people away from the franchise instead of bringing them towards it. As someone who grew up with these games, it makes me very sad. We have a let's play channel here - www.youtube.com/@realdegenerateplays and we have a store, cosmobunny.shop, where you can use code DJAY123 for 10% off your first purchase! Much love!
I first encountered Second Story on ps1. Played for about 45 minutes , thought it was great and then made (and forgot) a promise to eventually buy it. When I found out about SS R on switch I picked it up immediately. It’s quite a beautiful looking game with a great soundtrack . Really enjoying it.
You picked yourself a great one. First Departure R is also available digitally on a bunch of stuff. If you enjoy SSR you'd probably have fun with that one!
Star Ocean 3 was my first game in the series as well that I got to own and I was blown away by the post game. I don't remember the exact names but the Cave of Trials or whatever it's called plus tons of floors of dungeon in the Sphere company was crazy. I loved it.
I dunno, everyone said to me Tales of is great. I played 3 of em and 2 sucked so hard and one was decent. I played Second R. It was good, but did not made me interessted in other Star Ocean Games. My time and money are precious. Don't wanna throw them away for stuff that either suck or is just ok.
I own a PS2 copy of End of Time, and PS3 and PC copies of The Last Hope. Something to consider about the series, the same creators also created Tales of Phantasia, and then left and created a new studio (TriAce) and created Star Ocean from there.
Playing The 2nd Story on PS1 blew my mind, which led me to really dive into emulation and fan translations in the early days when my friends had to share games on floppy discs 😂 As a long time fan, the wait between 3 and 4 was agonising for me 😅
i played so2 as a rental in late 99 as a rental , didnt like it then but a few years later i played it again and loved it, so2 is in my top greatest rpgs
I really miss the way that the rental system used to work. It was so great to get games to try out that people wouldn't otherwise or might not even be able to afford at the time. I'm glad you were able to enjoy it then and it's great that it's still available now! The remake of 2 Is one of the first times in a while that the series has gotten some recognition just all around and I'm really happy about it.
I love these games to death! They are mostly separated by multiple decades with different characters, but they do make references back to each other. A great place to start is Star Ocean first departure R. It's on PS4 and 5 I know, and it is essentially a remaster of a remake of the original game!
That was probably the only one I ever saw a trailer for anywhere other than buried on TH-cam and didn't the 360 version end up having slightly less content too? There's a whole international version I know on PS3 and ported up past that.
I bought and played SO2 and 3 when they released back in the day. Love them both, especially the soundtracks. Motoi Sakuraba is an unfairly underrated composer compared to Nobuo Uematsu. And we need the odd-numbered Star Oceans to get PC ports some day! You know what would be good advertising for SO? Putting Blue Sphere (translated, obviously) onto the Nintendo Switch Online app. But who knows if Square wants to put money into doing that. Would be nice, tho.

I definitely want to play these games together.

Square enix has a blindness when it comes to noticing anything they own that isnt Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts 🕶️

I hope this series is in heaven 🙏🏻

Star Ocean is the best JRPG series that never gets the credit it deserves. I loved The Last hope, one of my favorite games.
The remake of second story has to be one of the most beautiful games i've ever played, no joke
Agree with a lot of your sentiments. It's a fantastic series that doesn't get the love it deserves

I would like to see a walkthrough on the other channel
I’ve never seen these games before but now I’m super interested, what game should I start on??

I think Star Ocean is better than Prime Transformers Megan Fox.
Whoah buddy lets slow it down.
I think I have a hot take. I liked Star Ocean Till the End of Time more than FF X. I wish we would get a steam release.
The last hope had a ton of marketing because they wanted it to be on Xbox 360. Saw allot of people I knew play their first jrpg with it

I love star ocean but the 3d ones are not good
