The girl playing Kim (Eva N.) goes to my school and i have the privilege of knowing her for about 4 yrs and being in class with her...she deserves it :) Pure talent.

@@themusicalspeakeasy2439 Take it from a Vietnamese person: this is a show, not a documentary. Not many of us speak English fluently enough to be considered for the role of Kim-or the ensemble, for that matter-and those who are are unlikely to have also received vocal training. If you want more *Vietnamese-Americans* to be involved in this production, that's fine, but that wouldn't make the characters any more authentic than they are now (save for the non-speaking role of Tam).
I'm Vietnamese and I think there is no Vietnamese actress play Kim role better than Lea Salonga :)

Eva has been one of my best friends for years. I cannot wait to see her play Kim. A real "dream come true" moment for her - just as it was for Lea 25 years ago, I'm sure. I always told Eva she would be a star, I just didn't know it would be so soon. Love you Eve. I'm going to miss you so much! Here's to hoping we share the stage again soon ;)

What about Thuy....who is playing him, this is a main role too. Jon-Jon's story on itself is inspirational, from theater runner to a pivotal lead role in a huge international theater production is absoutely amazing.

I have literally been replaying Eva's audition segment in this video over and over since I discovered this video a few weeks ago. She seems like she'll be absolutely fabulous in the role!!

I dont care if Lea Salonga is 42, 62 or 82...for me she'll forever be the only Kim. Miss Saigon will never be the same without Lea...i simply cant move on to other Kims. Kim is Lea & Lea is Kim.
I saw Ma-anne Dionisio, ovitatirac, as Kim. She was outstanding. I adore Lea Salonga to the max but am happy to know the Toronto's MS Kim was great. Don't close your door (and mind as well :)) to seeing other actresses/singers to play Kim, my friend! I remembered going to watch Les Miz thinking Colm Wilkinson was the best Valjean. Was I wrong! I saw two great actors play Valjean soo much better and one of them happened to play beside Lea's Fantine at the Broadhurst Theater... Lea was sooo good! I thought Patti LuPone was the best Fantine. Lea was perfect as Fantine. Just wanted to share that. Take care :P
I guess it only makes sense, i mean the none of the performers for the Les Miserables 25th annivarsary were french..They might as well call this Miss Manila...

deliza hermano i totally agree with you! no doubt that lea salonga set the bar very high when she played kim, kaya ang mga producers gusto ang mga Pilipino. yun lang yun! kaya sa mga bashers/sourgrapes na hindi nakukuha ang mga lahi nila sa mga shows kagaya nito, hmmm... ewan ko sa inyo ;p dasal dasal din pag may time, baka sakaling pakinggan ng mga dyos nyo ang hinaing nyo. i just hope that the producers will make a film (like les miz) in celebration of their 25years at si rachelle ang gawing kim para kaboom! ;P

Also, as a filipino, I think that the other pinoys are way too harsh on other people saying that Miss Saigon has way too many Filipino actors (not that I'm complaining though). Like, it would be nice to see a Vietnamese play Kim..

Rachelle Ann Go(Gigi) was part of the concert "Do You Hear The People Sing" in Manila with Lea Salonga and other foreign singers. Rachelle sang "maybe" a new song for the role of Ellen in Miss saigon. So far Rachelle can sing the songs of Kim, Gigi and Ellen. I hope she will be given a chance to portray Kim with her age at 27.She really has a great voice. Bravo! im so excited for her.

My husband and I went to see this production on Monday night (first night of our honeymoon - eek!) and were completely blown away by it. Everything from the singing to the costumes to the acting to the lighting to the sets was absolutely perfect. I just hope they decide to do a soundtrack for this cast because I want to listen to that show again and again and again. X
There is a live double album that was recorded earlier this year,i saw it on sale in the theatre but i expect that you can find on Amazon.....and much cheaper.

I adore and love this 3 men: Cameron Mackintosh, Claude-Michel Schonberg, and Alain Boublil since I set eyes on them during their search of Kim (in the Philippines) they found in Lea Salonga whom I greatly admire !!!! I pray tht they live a long, healthy and happy life in this lifetime!!!!

On Saturday 10th January...2015...I had the pleasure of being at The Prince Edward Theatre In London to see Miss Saigon.Tickets were a xmas present from my wife..because of work commitments we've never been able to make it...and we've waited over 10 years to see this production.What a show....the location....the music....the cast ...all superb...i'd reccommend this to anyone.
Lea's voice is still superior..but Eva seems so raw .. she can be a really good Kim.. There will be alot of Kims in the future..but only one has been chosen to be the mold of the character of Kim... and that's LEA... big shoes to fill in.. goodluck to EVA! She will definitely be brilliant in it...

Gigi is the most beautiful and most talented. She deserves to act the role of Kim. just saying.
She had left Miss Saigon coz she will be playing the role of Fantine in Les Miserables but another Filipina will take over Gigi's character, Natalie Mendoza. I just hope that Rachelle will do great in Les Mis and may she also be able to play Elphalba on the Wicked Musical next year! She deserves bigger roles!
Prince Ichigo Though she's great (Rachelle Ann Go) but she's still not fit to KIM's character, because this role requires an innocent looking lass.

I really wonder how this will play out once it is on stage come May 2014. I have real doubts about the casting for some reasons. Rachelle Ann is too strong and such a voice to reckon with specially with a powerful song as the first major song to be sung by her and in duet with Eva. Eva is a good singer but not at the caliber of Rachelle nor Lea when she landed the role already an experienced Repertory actress at the age of 17 whereas Eva has only school plays and musicals to speak of. Rachelle inspite of her age can pass for that innocent 17 y/o vietnamese and that voice, OMG. The casting for John and Chris are both weak compared to the original. The role of the engineer is really perfect for JonJon Briones who has done this in so many productions of Ms. Saigon. Once they have started rehearsals and maybe soft openings for the show before the premiere, they might make changes in the cast. I was expecting a stronger cast compared to the original but except for Rachelle and JonJon, the rest of the cast is nowhere near the original specially the role of Kim and Chris. Cameron M. might have made a costly mistake. They intentionally did not include Lea in the promo clip because she will certainly overshadow the new Kim.

For some people commenting, the creative team for this musical is the best in the world. They know what they are doing. Its not only about the voice. Its the totality of the character or role. And i can see that every artist there fits their role perfectly.

I agree that she has a great voice. But Eva Noblezada would fit better for the role of Kim. I think Rachelle Ann Go is fit for the role of Gigi. I can see her resemblance with Isay Alvarez.

Rachelle Ann Go can give justice for the KIM role, because she has an amazing voice and baby face..but it was the age issue,that's why they gave it to Eva so that it would be more authentic coz she's 17 and wonderful voice,she deserves it...but i am still thankful they give GIGI to Rachelle,knowing she ddnt really audition for the role gigi,means 2 say,she gave a good impression for the panel not to let her go..yeah!

allister sounds a little too nasal as chris, tamsin registers a little too mature for ellen; kim is very promising, great connection with the lyrics, rachel ann go will be great as gigi. jonjon is perfect as the engineer. who is playing thuy? and who are alternates for kim?

Oh my gosh I'm so excited about this! I think I must be the only person who is excited about Alistair Brammer, he doesn't have the strongest voice but that's not why he's so good, I saw him in War horse not long ago and he just has this natural depth and believability to his acting. His voice and his acting are both incredibly sympathetic and I think that will bring a whole new side to Chris, I've found that the actors who've played Chris in the past have had really incredible voices but they've been a bit one dimensional, a bit typical even. I actually love when they go for another take on the character. Honestly if they'd wanted a strong voice/ typical good looking guy there are plenty of them on the west end! They've clearly gone for something new and I love it! The only one I'm not sure about is Ellen, she seems a bit old to me? But they've hit the nail on the head with everything else so I won't come to any conclusions about that yet... GAhh I'm just so excited! I hope they do some sort of filming like in War Horse so they can show it around the world. It being the 25th anniversary and all I think they might do something special like that :)

Eva is the next Lea Salonga in my opinion! She is simply terrific and an absolute star! She's not only playing Kim in Broadway in 2017 but also starting as Eponine in Les Mis,m starting in April! She really is terrific
That clip of Eva would have been filmed before she had any sort of professional training, like Cameron said she had not done any other shows before except in high school. Now if you look at videos of her performing in the last year or so she improved dramatically and has a future brighter than light

Even with this Grand reproduction of Miss Saigon, just listening and watching these new actors in their auditions, I have to say, NOTHING compares to the Original production. That was and always be the MISS SAUGON. The acting and singing was phenomenal. The were all The Best cast ever. The voices were so original and their roles were so brilliantly and passionately played. You can build new props, bring in modern day music scores; new castings of new actors etc 25 - 100 years later but you will never take that originality and rawness from the original production. You will only have to sit back relax and run those reels and you transported back to Saigon. Heard the original Kim and Chris even after 25 years, singing together they sang in the original production, and you were immediately transported back into Miss Saigon.

It's because they only showed clips of him from when he was 16 and 20, he's almost 26 now so his voice has matured a lot
