This is my favourite Dynasty Warriours ost ever and i never thought id see the day when you would react to it. A little more context to this is that at this time in the game The faction you are playing as (Shu) has lost a lot of big people that had been its leadership and Zhuge Liang is the great strategist that led Shu to its greatness and is the last remnant of Shu's old order. He's incredibly sick by the time of this battle and perishes by the end of it which serves as the end of the story (for this faction) in the game. I love the bittersweet passing down of the torch to the new generation that this battle and song portrays and im happy that you decided to cover this great song!
The later Dynasty Warriors games, generation 7 onward, had so much emotion in every piece you heard, it really pulled you into battle. DW9 in my opinion was the absolutely pinnacle of this IMO
As a big fan of the history and games of the 'Three Kingdoms' era, I am so excited you review Dynasty Warrior OST. There is a funny quote among Dynasty Warrior fans, 'the company composes OST by heart, character illustrate by brain, and game by feet.' Please enjoy OST of this game. I have some favorite pieces, but music names are either in Chinese or Japanese. I know they may have different English names. But hey, this is also great to me. Waiting for your review on Dynasty Warrior OST is like unboxing experience, surprise mixed with excitement O~O
Battle of Wuzhang Plains is so emotional on SO MANY LEVELS. Not only is it the last significant attempt of Shu and Zhuge Liang trying to push against Wei and fulfill Liu Beis dreams, but you're doing it without a majority of the established heroes that have been such a big part of the Three Kingdoms period (on all sides of the struggle) since they've all died at this point. It's literally the passing of the torch from one generation to another, but from the perspective of Shu, everything you've built up is on the brink of being lost. LOVE THIS! Also, coincidence that the topic of Lu Bu coming up in your recent twitch stream? I THINK NOT 😂
Wow what a surprise macro! Most of DW's tracks are very cool heavy-metal pieces with strong emotions once you understand the history backgrounds. And if you are interested in reacting to more of these tracks i would recommend to Teary Edge, Battle Without Justice, and Geniuses' Sanctuaries!
You did not butcher Zhuge Liang's name at all, that's a pretty good pronunciation. Though I should mention if you see a name starting with T, the T is almost always silent. So for example Tsao Wei is pronounced Sao Wei Dynasty Warriors, heck the entire Warriors franchise, has always had an excellent soundtrack. They LOVE using electric guitar a lot, almost every song in every game has them. My all time favorite track has to be STEAL A MARCH ᐸ特命戦闘ᐳ from Dynasty Warriors online which is a remix of a track from DW 3 called Arena
@@stevenhsieh110 Yep it is but I personally like STEAL A MARCH more. I usually don't like remixes but this one I do. It's s shame the game is no longer active.
I suggest u hear more of the older titles of DW ost. This game have a very identic & unique ost especially that Guitar which pretty much present in almost all of DW musics. All character songs, Battle/map songs, all are so well made an i love the way how Heroic and melancholic all of this game ost is Titles from titles. DW 3,4,5 definitely holds some of the most iconic ost of this series and then many of its also either recomposed or more glorified in the future titles 🔥 U can also probably do "which Lu Bu theme is the best?" from the oldest to the newest lol
There's a bunch of 'character specific' songs, mostly from DW8, that actually have vocals (Not in English unfortunately) but if you were curious of that, "Trust Myself" is a personal favourite, it's Wen Yang's song, and in the game his story is mostly focused around when he and his family rebelled against Wei, then later joined Wu (an enemy nation) until another officer from Wei, who was also participating in that rebellion murders his father, so he returns to Wei, and helps stop the rebellion. In game his personality is he just wants to be a hero, but he feels like all the great people in the era have already passed, so he'll never be able to prove himself. And, I'm going to be honest, I think its an incredibly silly song and performance - but I do absolute adore it regardless, if you're familiar with the Three Kingdoms, you know of Lu Bu - His voice actor Tetsu Inada, performed the vocals for Lu Bu's song "King of Destroyer" live, which you might find fun, it's... I mean I'm sure you could've guessed, but its the most 'metal' song associated with the series, but I do want to stress how silly it is. There's also a version of Lu Bu's theme with an accompanying opera, (Though without the lyrics from King of Destroyer) in Warriors Orochi 4. (A Crossover series, its like Koei's Smash bros.)
I kinda want to see your reaction to Samurai Warriors music for sure now. The cool thing with them depending of the side you're playing for have alter version of the same music. Like in Samurai Warriors 4 Petals in the Wind for the Siege of Osaka for example the Sanada/Toyotomi have a version of the song and the Tokugawa have their own.
The most peak Song about Zhuge Liang's last flame in Wuzhang Plains Battle in Dynasty Warriors game. Also the fact there is cutscene of Shu-Han's officer talking to him before he passed away, make this BGM hit more in the feel.Tho you need do annoying objective to trigger this Cutscene
Goddammit, Marco, how did you use a Dynasty Warriors track to make me cry? I was just clicking around in my subscriptions for something to watch while I ate breakfast. Why did you do this to me?!
Dynasty Warriors music is peak, all of the tracks have this forward drive that goes so well with the gameplay itself. They may be rather simple "blender armies" games but they focus hard on that aspect of it and really nail the feel of heroism that is portrayed there. And the weapon variety is quite incredible, haven't seen another game where a BOAT is a weapon besides more classic fantasy stuff like spears and swords and flying swords... they really go absolutely nuts in trying to find as many exotic weaponry as possible.
I listen to the characters of the songs they sing which has meaning behind it each and every one of them from Dynasty Warriors 7 to Dynasty Warriors 9..
This battle was the beginning of the end of the chronicles of the three kingdoms, After than the Wei, soon Jin, had no more threats and will steamroll across China. You really feel it in the song too, The end of Shu Ideals.
I never played 8, but I'm excited to see some Dynasty Warriors. (And yes I see another video just went up, too.) I don't know if they make good reaction fodder, but a couple of my favorites from the series: DW4: Eve DW5: Great Red Spirit, Dual NRG, *Primitive Power* DW6: Welcome to China DW7: Glory, Thousand Suns, The Last Battle
So, I booted up the game to remind myself what context this song is played in. Since I was a mad completionist with 400+ hours on it *Completing the Story mode map 20 mins later after shaking off rust* Right, the game is nowhere as smooth as I remember it being. Soooo, frankly the gameplay is divorced from narrative and emotional context. Now, in the narrative sense: this is the ""Historical"" end of the Shu Story Campaign, the emotional climax of everything you're struggling against. Basically, this is indeed the final battle that will determine the tide of war. And you know you can't do it, but are putting your ALL into it, whatever happens, described in that final splendor of a guitar solo at the end of the loop. Now, the more grounded and simplified context: this is the final hurrah for the Shu Kingdom to establish themselves as an actual player in the power politics of the era. Jiang Wei, aka Zhuge Liang's protege, led a final wave of battles to claim territory in the Wuzhang Plains so they can get some access to grain and trade, they are a starving Kingdom in the Eastern Mountains aka the Himalayans. That's where they were pushed and effectively exiled from military and political affairs in North and Southern China. They have an excellent defensible position in the mountains, but they don't have the favorable terrain to grow crops and raise living standards to draft an effective army, unlike Wei and Wu in their own fertile lands. These Northern campaigns were fought long and hard by both sides for quite some time. Zhuge Liang, as "Chancellor" of Shu, aka the effective governing body of the Shu kingdom died during that time in the capital, far from the battlefield. While, Jiang Wei was unrelenting in claiming territory by any means necessary, getting supply lines from the mountains was simply far too straining for an extended period of time. While on the Wei side: Sima Yi was playing defense at an giga brain level, he withdrew tactically, always exhausting the Shu armies and stretching the thin in the plains. Making Shu's victories moot, because they lost so much men for every iota of territory claimed. And this, this is Jiang Wei's eulogy and Zhuge Liang's requiem in a sense: fighting against an endless tide in the name of a dream, a dream to reunite a shattered land.
@marcomeatball I love your videos, especially the BG3 and Warcraft videos. You should check out Plagues tale Requiem just "Main Theme" or "Title" I would love this! I feel like the song has a great feeling and is very emotional, features a choir too, so similar vibes to "invincible - WoW OST" Keep up the great work.
hoho, this is a surprise, diving into dynasty warriors soundtrack, i hope you can check out samurai warriors soundtrack too and warriors orochi too if you can
I HAD NO IDEA you were reacting to musou music
This just made my day
And this is definitely my favorite track from this installment in the series
It’s almost like the guitar is crying
La guitarra no esta llorando yo estoy llorando
OH boy you done did it now, dipped your toes in dynasty warrior's music.
You should check out the Dynasty Warriors 4 soundtrack. All the songs are amazing so you can't go wrong picking one!

Time to replay the game
