    Some months I experience suicidal thoughts. I get panic attacks. The day my period starts, I start feeling better.

    As someone who meditates and tries their best to be aware & conscious of their thoughts. It’s so heartbreaking to one day feel like all the hard work I put into my mental health is destroyed simply because my body is doing something it’s suppose to be doing. I feel so defeated at times. And it really affects my work environment. Even my manager would look at me like they don’t recognize me and all I can do or say is “I’m sorry”.

      @@MariaSilva-tw8qu so far I downloaded a period tracker and the week before my period I cut out caffeine. I drink cinnamon tea everyday that week to reduce pms symptoms. And if you have an active lifestyle, I do stretching instead of working out. Also just being kind to myself and avoiding blame or being too hard on myself. I don’t have $$ to go to a therapist but I’ve had to see what things work for me and so far it’s these. Also, accepting that I’m someone else during those times helps. Like if I feel depressed I just accept it and vocalize to coworkers or friends what I’m feeling. Being vocal of what I feel and being true to how I’m feeling has helped more than any remedy. There’s only so much we can do. I’m not sure what symptoms you experience everyone is different.

    I’m watching this crying. I feel like a failure in every part of my life. For 2 weeks every month, I am a mess. I’m convinced my husband is cheating, and that I’m a horrible mother. This is unbearable.

      @@cuteness4less I do too. I began taking a b12, b6, and ashwanganda supplement a few weeks ago. I think it helps. I had a rough day when I wrote the above comment, and a rough day the next, but I’ve been mostly able to keep it in check! Hoping for my period in the next few days!

      It’s so hard to live with 😢 knowing though is half the battle though as then you can try to just ride the storm knowing there sunny sky’s are so close. It’s not been easy but with supplements and good self care and awareness we can keep happily married!

    Imagine trying to improve your life and being emotionally, physically, and mentally out of commission for 2-3 weeks every month. This is a disability. If you have PMDD and you're still here and still trying you should be very proud of yourself. That is a LOT to overcome and recover from every single month!

    I have this and it’s a living hell. Before my period, I get extreme panic attacks, suicidal thoughts, extreme rage and outbursts, lack of motivation, and a difficulty concentrating. It happens to me every single period. It’s awful.

      I have PMDD where I become suicidal, have you tried getting checked for poly systic ovary disease? I get facial hair and my sister has it and on one video it came up, PMDD can be linked to PCOS. My testosterone are high and now their checking for PCOS I thought I'd share in case you might make the connection xx

      @@jessicasteele8529 Thank you for sharing! I’ll definitely ask my doctor about it when the pandemic lockdowns end. In Canada, I can’t get in to see my doctor right now. Kind of a bummer because my period makes life so unbearable. I definitely want to get tested for PCOS and officially get my PMDD documented.

    IMPORTANT DETAIL: The common statement of symptoms appearing "a week before your period" can be very misleading. It took me years to connect my mental health issues to my menstrual cycle because of this. It turned out that one of my worst days, each month, was exactly 10 DAYS BEFORE MY PERIOD. Guess what - this is exactly when the luteal phase begins and there is a sudden change in hormones. I highly recommend that every single menstruating woman with mental health concerns keep a basic diary of mood, energy and appetite for a few months to at least rule out the possibility of PMDD. I did mine for a year. You might be surprised at the patterns you start to notice!

      @@Ann4Change The main difference for me was simply knowing I wasn't going completely insane. The bad days are still difficult, but knowing I'm nt going mad, and that the terrible feeling is temporary, certainly takes the edge off. I go gentler on myself and, when possible, try to ensure I'm not doing anything too hectic or demanding on my bad days (which, for me, are on 10th day, 7th day, 3rd day and 1 day before menstruation, which all the days in between being absolutely fine).

      @@Ann4Change Yep, definitely a rollercoaster, especially as the off-days can be singular, with days in between being absolutely fine (in fact, a bit of a high for me sometimes - I notice I sometimes get a bit giddy and silly in those good days that lie within my ten-day countdown). I sincerely wish you all the best on your journey to managing PMDD! For me it is a very long work in progress, and everything I've done to manage my emotional health - counselling, yoga etc. - has contributed to feeling better. I can still feel suicidal on my bad days, but now I know why I can ride it out, and always feel better the next day. Good luck! xxx

      These responses show that mental health support is just as important as treatments for the physical symptoms associated with menopause.

    I just loose control. It's like somebody has replaced me. I become so agitated to the point i feel like flipping a table if I perceive something wrong. I have major conflict with friends and family I could sleep for days. I feel hopeless, isolated, sometimes suicidal. panic attacks. the shakes, sweats, fear, thinking nobody likes me, I can cope with day to day. Then I get my period and its gone. This happens me every 2nd cycle. which is fucked up.

      Mine started in my mid twenties noone believes me. I'm just lazy or making excuses, and I can just make the decision not to be this way beforehand. This was told to me by doctors or nurses.

People completely lack perspective, it's shameful that some "medical professionals" can't take their heads out of their own asses long enough to actually help someone how they need to be helped. Instead they give you pseudo solution mumbo jumbo or misdiagnose you because they aren't familiar with your condition. I've been misdiagnosed with just depression and had doctors patronize me. Why would I let someone play the guessing game with my health. Only to take a bunch of strong and wrong medications to then have side effects worst than I'm already experiencing to then come off them and go into withdrawal 😑.

    This has me sobbing. How did no one talk to me about this. This is me, exactly me. I told a therapist thank goodness I’m no longer scared of my suicidal thoughts because they’re so common and I know days later it stops. The crying all the time, suddenly needing 12 hours sleep or I can’t talk without slurring my words.
    And then feeling bouncy and fine a week later! It made me question my sanity. It’s made therapists suggest bipolar issues but the descriptions never felt right. This is all exactly me.

      @@malsawmkimi1957 pmdd happens 1 to 2 weeks.before your period, and goes away within 1 to 3 days after. You could still have pmdd but ask your doctor they know your health best. Take care ❤️

I thankfully eventually realized how all of my symptoms followed a pattern, and then it hit me that it all followed my period cycle. When it was confirmed by a medical professional, it was a relief, but my work had only begun in learning, understanding, and deal with it. But knowing is such an important first step.

    I believe that trauma and economics play a large role in how bad PMDD can get for some of us. We're constantly taught by society that we have to attend school and work in the same way that men do - even though we naturally have a menstrual cycle. The pressure is worse for women to perform, despite our biology / related menstrual conditions. There is a lot of resentment in women, even those without PMS/PMDD, and we often bottle these emotions up until the hormones switch up on us, and we explode.
    Which is why I think it's important that folks with PMDD accept their emotions as valid, even if they feel extreme. I can't stress Journaling enough!
    Exercise, and therapy have all helped me with PMDD, but it is still a struggle. Thank you for this informative video! I now plan to research other supplements aside from already taking Chasteberry & Wild Yam for the physical side effects.

      I relate with all of that. It took me many years to put it all together due to complications of childhood trauma. Exercise, extra sleep, and SSRI have been helpful. It’s equally important to have people in my life who understand and respect my boundaries. It took many years to learn how to label and recognize the symptoms of PMDD. I hope we can continue to build awareness in ourselves and society in general.

    Week before : anger easily able to cry over the smallest thing. Craving salty spicy and oily foods. During : depressed, ready to cry at every little thing, sleeping too much, overwhelmed, lazy, craving chocolate. After : wondering who I was for the past 2 weeks

    The week before my period, I feel so moody that I literally go in one day from being in love with my husband to legit wanting a divorce. It feels so real even though I know I will feel normal when my period starts. In fact I almost always know when I'm going to start because it's like a switch is flipped I'm my brain and I begin feeling a lot more normal a few hours before I start. Eating dairy, caffeine and too much sugar make things so much worse.

      Your comment resonates so much with me! I also agree with your list of things that make it worse. Cutting dairy (mostly) out of my diet was a huge help. I also think that taking magnesium and chaste tree, regular movement (walking does so much more than people realize), and practicing mindfulness and nonjudgment have eased multiple symptoms. The last two might not seem as relevant, but I pair them with compassion for and acceptance of myself, and their effects are quite calming (very helpful).

    Days before my period, and sometimes when my period starts, I get these crying spells. It starts with anxiety, and then I give in to my thoughts and breakdown crying. Sometimes too I start crying for no reason. It happens every month around the same time. I thought I was having severe anxiety and considered getting therapy (which I can't afford at the moment). But when I started tracking it I realized it happened on or around my period. I have a strong feeling it's PMDD. it's a terrible feeling, especially when the crying starts, its uncontrollable and I cry till I'm drained.

It'll make a world of difference, I promise. I went to the doctor tons of times and anything that had a positive result I learned on my own. Hang in there. ❤️

    It’s interesting, my previous boyfriend could literally time me, by the day, and know exactly what was going on with me. The crippling anxiety, extreme exhaustion and endless thoughts of suicide were so intense for about 3 days before my period, but once my period started, it’s like a curtain in my mind lifted, and I was me again. People who don’t understand may think that it’s just an excuse to be crazy, or take off work, and some people may use their disorder as a crutch... but when you really get down to a real case of PMDD, it’s hell, and I’m so thankful for all the wonderful people around me who help me keep grounded and remember that the feelings and thoughts are only temporary.

    I experienced almost every.single.symptom. My mood switches completely and for between 5-7 days prior I am an absolute cow. I’m argumentative, negative, sad,crying, hysterically laughing, nasty and all things bad. I try and try and try every month to keep it under control but I just want to SCREAM! And then my period comes and I’m sweet again. I also experience overwhelming anxiety, irritability, panic, nervous and self critical :(
    It’s still really reassuring to know that other women, too, experience these.

      This is exactly me. I didn’t even know this was a thing. Since I became a mom, these symptoms have gotten much worse 😖😖 I’m a sweet person usually, but literally feel intense rage when dealing with certain people. I’ve never felt like this before til a few years ago.

    3-4 days before my period I feel like I’m empty, like I have love emotion. No love, no regard for myself, no sadness. I feel hopeless like there is no reason for anything that I do and that I should just die. It’s scary. I finally told my mom and she told me to ask my doctor. Finally I know why.

      Courtney: I feel the same here. No feeling whatsoever. It is good in a way, because I tend to feel a lot. So having no feelings for love is good. I hate the part of the pain in the body, tenderness, sadness, and nightmares. But I will get into yoga. I lost 5 pounds last month. Just eating rice and bananas. I am getting back to the brat diet again. Peace, and i hope you can find some peace maybe doing yoga. I drink a lot of tea. Ginger, green and relaxing tea, any... Ahhh. It is terrible being a woman. hahaha

    I just found this right now. Am shocked. Before my menses I sometimes feel suicidal, a failure, depressed, sad and reflect about being unloved ( my family is a little dysfunctional) food craving, sleeping too long, feeling bloated. I have dealt with this and have never told anyone till now. I know it linked to my cycle so I just endure it till my menses is over. Nowadays I don’t stress my self so much about this so it getting a bit better. I noticed this about three years ago.

    Honestly, I've been drinking red raspberry leaf tea for about a year now. A few days before my period starts and once a day for the duration of my period. It helps to even out hormones and I just feel 50% less crabby and the overall pain is reduced.

      I drank RL tea at the end stage of my
      Pregnancy as it’s supposed to stimulate contractions and bring on labour . I just wonder ( as I have long periods ) if that effect could make your periods speed up and end sooner due to increased uterine contractions?

      ​@@LxUxNxA Hello, I don't mind the TMI questions. I do find that I bleed less overall. I'm not sure that it shortens my cycle, but It's not nearly as heavy or painful. It's possible it could help speed up the process for yourself since the tea promotes the contracting. Don't qoute me on that, though. :)

    Why do so many women get misdiagnosed with bipolar and borderline. . When it's pmdd sometimes .. I feel like that's why so many people say "only women have borderline " I wish more doctors knew about pmdd and would rule it out before other conditions

    Suffered from this for years because my male family doctor and the psychologists I was seeing didn’t even mention it to me. I later figured it out on my own and told my doctor. he dismissed it as; “it’s basically just pms”. Makes me so angry women don’t receive proper medical care due to the negligence of men. And I live in Canada. Imagine how it is for women in developing countries.
    If anyone is wondering, I started taking birth control to regulate, or even skip my cycle, and it helped me completely. No longer suffer from this every month!

      @@jessicasteele8529 I heard the condition was finally classified in 2013 (DSM5) which is rather late for having suffered with this since 1982. I am serious in that it affected my career as I had competitors clock my monthly cycles testing my temperament in hopes to sabotage me out of a promotion. No GYN or doctor would entertain my complaints during my monthly paps. I had to rely on my faith in God to give me the strength needed to avoid provoked situations.

    I give my husband credit. He figured this out for me when we were dating long distance. He'd see me twice a month and I'd be a completely different person. He heard someone present on PMDD on some program and had me look into it. I'm glad I found out at 22

      I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way because this was me but your body isn’t suppose to be operating that way. I would recommend seeing a functional medicine/Internal doctor who can help treat that. I went from two weeks of the month be able to function normally while the rest was cycling through anxiety, depression, fatigue and self criticism. Turns out that we as females have something called the ovarian thyroid axis which are like foundational things that help us function they way it’s suppose to. While I think it’s good PMDD is being regonized one should understand that this is the body’s message to tell you this isn’t normal to function this way. I am being treated naturally and was told I wouldn’t even need to probably take progesterone because the OAT axis was being properly treated. I didn’t even need to take birth control. Hope this information helps someone. Having this condition really sucks so much out of you and really dampers the way you have to live.

      Omg me tooooooooo. I used to think it was all my fault and that I wasn't trying hard enough. I believed that because that's what my family kept telling me. They blamed me and made me feel like I was making things up, or being attention-seeking. It couldn't have been further from the truth. I was suffering from these uncontrollable feelings and had NO CLUE why it was happening and I just wanted to feel normal again. The symptoms would get so bad I would literally have panic attacks and think I was about to die. I should've been congratulating myself for not ending my life, not blaming myself for not trying. So much pain and stress all from PMDD. I didn't find out what was happening to me until over a decade later. Many women commit suicide because they never get answers to what is even happening to them. We are strong for having dealt with all of this. You have to stay strong to deal with this monthly nightmare. You are all amazing women to fight this EVERY MONTH

    It doesn't happen to me every month, but when it does, I turn into a different person. I can get so angry I feel like slamming doors, hitting walls or even myself. I feel like just fall on the ground and cry. I feel like the whole world is just falling apart. I'm in medical school, and I always feel like dropping out when these feelings come. I have no desire to do anything, no motivation to study. It's really a hell on earth...
    And as soon as I start menstruating, it's like the sun appears among the dark clouds and everytime I tell myself, okay, if it happens next time, you know it's nothing but pmdd but then again when it appears... I forget everything I have told myself and it's like I've been thrown in hell again...

    I wish I had found you in my 20’s. I have PTSD and I had PMDD. As it turned out, medical menopause & antidepressants finally ended the cycles of temporary insanity I lived through my entire adult life. I’m grateful to finally be able to know myself - & for the stability I have now. I’m also grieving for the impact my illness had on my kids - despite my efforts to prevent that & so sad for the time I wasted being misdiagnosed and over medicated. I don’t even remember years spent drowning in misery over thingsI couldn’t change.it’s a miracle I survived given how suicidal it all made me feel. Thank you for teaching about these complex conditions that cause so many women to suffer.

    I've told my psychiatrist that my depression worsens on my period but she dismissed it as just regular PMS, but I knew it was more than that (suicidal thoughts would suddenly pop up) and this video has been really helpful in validating my worries. This is such a relief. Thank you!

      Sadly, therapists and psychiatrists are not real doctors. They should realize this and they should never invalidate your experience. If a therapist does that to you, ditch them and find a new one.

    This is something to be taken very seriously. I have depression - I've been medicated for 6-7 years-, and whenever I have suicidal thoughts and this feeling of utter hopelessness, it almost always coincides with these weeks before my period. It's so important to remember this, to help you realize that what you are feeling is caused by something out of your control, and not because there's really no other option. It marks the difference between being able to overcome this mental horror and succumb to it.

    I have EVERY single one of these symptoms. EVERY SINGLE ONE. I have wondered for 30 years what is wrong with me. I just called it regular PMS- but it’s so much more than that. I have just dealt with it- I became an alcoholic. I am a year sober now. I thought my alcohol use was to blame- it wasn’t. I am relieved to know that I am not alone- that there is a reason for these marked changes. I have battled hormones for too long.

    For me, it happens right before ovulation. I get enough aggression to move a refrigerator by myself. I am moody and hungry and miserable. It does not get better until my period starts. It's pretty severe.

      Talk to your doc and start trying all the options until you figure out what works for you. I treat my symptoms with vitamins, minerals and sleep. I can still feel a change before ovulation and my period but it's now quite subtle and limited to a few days each. On the plus side, I always know when both are about to happen, verified by using a period tracker that estimates ovulation.

    I was diagnosed with PMDD way back in the day. I would get fits of severe depression 1 week before my period and cry for hours...I mean cry until my eyes were so swollen it seem like I was punched in the face...then flip into extreme hyperactivity...then flip into irritability. I started experiencing all this since I started my period at age 10.
    I thought I was going crazy... I try treating with hormones and it didn't work...then holisticly... And finally I had to get on an antidepressant regimen and TA-DA, I became a normal person. The change was so drastic that my ex at the time stated I was a different person. I finally felt like my true self. Unfortunately, due to the severity of my PMDD, I lost a lot of close friends because they couldn't take my depression. I still get heavy menses and severe pain...but diet and exercise has helped tremendously (been on Keto for 2 years). It's okay ladies, you are not crazy, talk to your doctor about this and get some help. Don't live with it any longer than you should.

      Yes exactly I feel the same way, the week before, I just get so out of control mentally and get so agitated to the point where I feel like throwing or breaking something or doing something destructive. It feels so scary. Then when my period starts, I feel like my normal, happy self again. I don’t wish this on anyone.

    I searched this condition again tonight because I needed some more awnsers. It breaks my heart that so many of us are suffering this way. I am about 12 days away from my period, feel like I just had it really but I am enraged this weekend. Everything is exacerbated and I want to throw everything in my life away except my lovely daughter. I want to isolate and cut it all off. I don’t know how I can run my business like this.     I've had this since my teen years, I'm now 32. It's taken a toll on me and my marriage 😢 During the week before my period I get so on edge, feel trapped in my own mind, filled with aggression and agitation, extreme tearfullness and just downright sadness/hopelessness like I don't even know what my life is and question my own existence on earth. Sometimes suicidal ideation, like this tormenting existential terror. I almost each month can't believe how awful it is and then I start my period and within a couple days I see the light again, I'm back in my own mind and body, I feel chipper and happy and I can always tell it's my real self when I sing a lot and feel bubbly. I would give anything to be that me 100% of the time. I told my husband if meds don't work (which I'll try this month) then I honestly want a hysterectomy. I just want to live my life in peace.

      @@akajol I've been on YAZ for almost 2 months! I'm sooooo relieved! I'm just taking the drospirenone pill everyday and no sugar pills. Basically tricking my body to not ovulate. The PMDD symptoms are basically at a minimal level and my life is tolerable again! I did start spotting on and off a couple weeks ago but not too bad. Way better than PMDD!!! Yaz has helped me tremendously

    Thank you for this, Dr. Marks! I’ve had PMDD for about twelve years now. It’s amazing to finally see awareness being spread and research being done now that it’s officially in the DSM. So many of my previous doctors used to look at me funny when I’d ask them about PMDD and treatment options. Either they would deny it existed or didn’t know about it at all. The view of it is finally changing and I’m happy for the women who have been struggling to find out what is going on in their mind and body. I think over time we’ll be seeing the statistics of women affected by PMDD going up because they will finally have a true diagnosis.

    This is pretty depressing, I will be turning 40 years old this year (Lord willing) and for years I have struggled in my mood and marriage. I started noticing the pattern that our major fights would happen the 2 weeks before my period started. It would literally be like a switch turned on and I couldn't stand my husband. He thought I had mental health issues. I would be so irritable, angry, depressed, crying over everything, tired, and have horrible food cravings. Once my period came on, I would feel better again. I wish I would've known sooner.

      The person you need to learn to deal with is you. Your partner has a good reason to resent you: you act like a terrible monster like 25% of the time. Figure out that you did bad things to your partner and harmed them. Not because you’re a bad person but because you were sick. Don’t shift the blame onto someone else. Take responsibility for your actions.

      Becca Becca I’m sorry that’s rough. I currently do see a therapist for PTSD, but despite it being under control, during my time of the month it gets 10 times worse. I’m going to start taking the supplements she mentioned in the video. I don’t want to get back on antidepressants.

      I agree that so many doctors are ignorant on this issue. But birth control has genuinely saved my life. I use Lucette which is the same as Yaz/ Yasmin and that particular blend of hormones has worked complete and utter wonders for me. Its lowered my sex drive *slightly* but I will gladly take that rather than being completely and utterly fucked up for a week a month.

      Now I'm visiting a psychologist and hoping my breast tumour isn't cancer :)

    OMG! I've always thought I had anxiety but the funny thing is.. its ALWAYS 1 or 2 weeks before my period and once it comes I go back to myself again. Never had suicidal thoughts, I love life too much. But, I feel so low, hopeless like Im not achieving anything in my life, that I cant do or learn anything that I have just to accept being mediocre. Also, feeling very anxious some severe social fears too. All my ambitions and goals in life disappear and its like I am numb and empty inside. Then, few days after my period is gone.. Im feeling like a rock star again haha (Not funny ! Its just very hard to understand and to cope with it)
    If you are reading this and can relate; let me share some things that helps me ( never fully makes it go away, but helps)
    1- Running
    2- High intensity Cardio
    3- Vitamin B6 B12 plus complex B
    4- Vitamin D3 and Calcium and when its possible at least 5 minutes sun bathing
    5- Gratitude Journal- Writing and saying out loud for 10 to 15 minutes
    6- Meditation ( mindfulness )
    7- Maca powder and dark chocolate

    At 34 years old and years of not understanding what was happening with my own body, I am finally aware of what is going on. Just the realization that I have PMDD has helped me cope tremendously with it. Every month I would have suicidal ideation along with many other symptoms, not understanding where it was coming from. Once I realized that it was PMDD I was able to cope better and talk myself off of the edge a little more. I just started taking Yaz this week and I’m hoping my symptoms are drastically reduced!

    Once I read that when your stress is high in the first two weeks of your cycle, your pms will be worse in the second two weeks. It ended up being true for me so I tried harder to keep my stress levels in check and it did help. I’m writing in past tense bc I’m in my 60s now but hope this tidbit might be another tool that will help menstruating women feel better.

      Yes this is totally true, when I am stressed i just know I'm going to have a hard time. The period symptoms also get worse. Exercise helps a great deal with regulating stress.

    I thought it was just PMS. I've learned that I need to recognize PMS symptoms in myself as soon as possible so that I can avoid and control my interactions with people, and avoid any unnecessary tasks until I get my period. I take it very seriously because my mood will be volatile and I'll also be extremely clumsy. I go through the day looking forward to getting home and locking myself in a dim room to just relax with low stimulation activities, and remind myself that it will pass. I guess maybe it's not just PMS lol

      Yesterday such bad severe cramps I stayed in bed all day after work in a dim lit room curtains closed didn’t feel like talking to anyone or doing anything. And a few days before I start my period I get so angry and don’t want to be near people severe stress and can go off if someone irritates me. Once I get over the first couple of days of my period and the cramping is over I feel amazing and brand new like a happy person who is very laid back.

    I have this and to me it feels like what bipolar must be like without the extreme mania. I’ve literally quit jobs, broken up w people, STARTED relationships all due to pmdd. It’s brutal

    I've been taking 400mgs of Chasteberry daily paired with exercise, no caffeine and no alcohol. I was already caffeine and alcohol free when I started the supplement. But adding the supplement and exercise helped almost immediately! My symptoms are mostly emotional symptoms and I noticed I wasn't nearly as depressed or hopeless. Chasteberry is honestly miraculous.

      @@bosi292 awesome! I stayed on the supplement for 6 months and then weaned off for the duration of a month or so. Maybe a little longer. But I'm still alcohol free, mostly caffeine free, and I also do yoga every single day. Even if its just a little movt. And honestly, I feel SO much more leveled out. I believe exercise can be grossly underrated. But the chasteberry was a lifesaver in getting me on track. Best of luck!!!

    Diagnosed in 2013, eventually having a full hysterectomy in 2019...I'm a veteran of this malevolent condition, PMDD. Ladies, you are not alone. I know you're hurting and feeling like giving up. Keep fighting. Keep going. Don't take no for an answer from doctors. You have come too far to give up now. I'm in the process of writing a blog to help my fellow sufferers, from the information I've learned over the past 8 years. Just know that you are not mad, this is not your fault and there is help out there. I'm sorry you have to endure this. Please look up 'vicious cycles', this organisation is incredible.

    This is how I feel right now! I have been diagnosed to have bipolar and a few other things but I honestly feel normal until it’s time for my period. I am so mean that I scare myself 😢

      You might be misdiagnosed. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety but with a new doctor who listens it’s probably been pmdd this entire time

      many women are misdiagnosed as bipolar, but once u log ur symptoms, and notice its in line with ur cycle, maybe speak to ur doctor about pmdd rather than bipolar :)

      Pmdd actually means that you feel horrible and not like yourself unless you are ON your period. Like, I've had it for 25 years and it's basically made the days that I'm not bleeding a nightmare.

    I never heard of it before today. I used to always say that my PMS is just bad, but i fit every criterion you have mentioned.
    It's literally so hard cuz i feel like one day I'm not gonna survive another month and I'll just end up taking my life away. It ruined me and i feel as if my mom is sick of me.
    At least now i know what I'm experiencing and it feels a bit better to know that I'm not alone in this!

      I have PMDD where I become suicidal, have you tried getting checked for poly systic ovary disease? I get facial hair and my sister has it and on one video it came up. My testosterone are high and now their checking for PCOS I thought I'd share in the hope I can help someone make the connection xx

    I’m sobbing so hard right now. Ever since I was a teenager, I always had a mental breakdown the week before my period and would have so much conflict between friends, families, and past boyfriends while on my period. It got in the way of my job eventually, I had to quit cause they didn’t believe my symptoms.
    I’ve been trying to work on it the pass couple years and have had less conflict overall but it’a really just too much for myself. & to have it every month too.
    I tell my current boyfriend all the time how everyone is lucky they can get away from me during this time…while I have to just get through it alone. Yeah. I can’t stop crying.

    I had PMDD for years. It's a good thing my ex-husband went to a doctor's appointment with me one day and started joking with my gynecologist about my behaviors around that time of the month. She started asking me certain questions as he was laughing and joking about how crazy I get. My gynecologist was looking extremely serious and she told him it's not a laughing matter. At that point she diagnosed me with PMDD. She also asked him if he knew I could cause him extreme bodily harm and possibly get off for temporary insanity. He stopped laughing at that point. I ended up going on fluoxetine and it helped tremendously.

    I have for many years believed all my problems and issues was caused by "severe PMS". I have recently been diagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder, ultra rapid cycling. I felt so relieved to finally get a diagnosis! Now I am very confused if it might be PMDD after all... I score on all the criteria, and I am very calm with high spirits and good mood in between my periods, sometimes I even am in like a hypomanic state. A few times I am depressed when I should have had my "good week". I am so very tired of trying to get help for my crazy mood swings that come and go, depressions, monthly social anxiety and also very very good mood so that I get exhausted, so maybe I should just believe in the Bipolar diagnosis. Oh, I am rambling and complaining! I apologize for that! I just felt the need to get this off my chest. This was a really great video!       Rapdi cycking you speak of is "unbalanced hormones" my dear. If can be sudden, youre a different mood every hour of the day and it depends on the hormones your ovaries are producing, or not producing. .
      Research natural remedies and exercise daily. Its about diet and not eating garbage and dairy and meat. Meat has extra hormones that send gour body into estrogen dominance. (Google estrogen dominance natural remedies)

      I resonated with your entire experience. Don't apologize for sharing. If it wasnt for this platform id really be messed up. I'm learning so much. I have major depression, bipolar 1 and I have always had bleeding issues and hormonal issues. I'm currently in a depressive and hypomanic espisode. I have not been able to work in over 3 weeks because of all of the physical, emotional, and mental challenges. I feel alone at times even when others are around. I get angry because I'm socially isolated, irritated easily by others, and I'm passive aggressive. I come on so strong towards others and I feel pure inner anger. Then I feel pure guilt for having anger issues and social issues because of my emotional issues. Trying to find a balance. There has to be a better way for us all.

    I have every symptom of every criteria. I am at the worst part of it now and thinking I don't want to live anymore. I am so sick of dealing with this every month. I hate it so much. 9 days to go and I will get me back. It's like every month I am a vessel of self-loathing, anxious rapid thoughts and convincing myself that my boyfriend doesn't love me and maybe I should just end it before he does. Poor guy, he is dating two women. Me that is so loving and sweet and the other me who is scared, negative and suicidal. God, please bring me peace.

    I had the worst weekend ever this week. I’m normally unaffected by my menstrual cycle but this weekend before, I felt like I was losing my mind. There was no control over my emotions. I was fine, then crying, then felt rejected, then panicked, then tore myself apart. No rhyme or reason or cause. Just like my emotions were on a random shuffle. slept for eleven hours at a time. It was so debilitating

    I was diagnosed at fourteen and I'm so thankful my doctor saw it so early on. I have been on medication since then because I didn't feel like I could deal with it along with high school and other medical conditions (chronic pain and severe asthma). I'm 19 now and in med school and a lot of people still don't know that PMDD is a thing. Living life is hard, but I've been doing a lot better
    So glad you made this video because there are still many things I don't know...

    I'm trying to check if this is my condition. Because every time my mestruo is about to come I feel like the whole world is falling apart. I never feel so depressed. I feel constantly anxious and I experience terrible thoughts, obsessive thoughts. I always thought that this happened to everyone the week before their mestruo, but lately I've started questioning, do they really feel this way? How can they bear those feelings? Am I just overreacting? If that's so, why am I the only one who needs to stay in her bed the whole day hot just for the physical pain but also for the emotional one?

    I have CPTSD and PMDD. The PMDD most certainly contributed to developing CPTSD, and makes the luteal phase a nightmare. I believe understanding that I have PMDD is the secret thing “wrong” with me that I’ve been trying to understand since I was 11. Im 26 now and still grieving how much trauma was caused from not understanding this condition. It is a woman’s issue, and it angers me that so many women experience this natural fluctuation and are expected to operate in the same way as males. It’s ignorant and unwise to pretend that men and women function the same way. Anyhow, I am practicing radical acceptance and rational detachment to try and cope with the grief I feel, along with just having started Sertraline. Im hoping the sertraline helps both the CPTSD and the PMDD.

      @@hottestfeedmedia Hey, so far it is helping the PMDD! It’s a relief. I’m not getting so bad anymore. It’s still painful but not as extreme. I was hoping it would help my CPTSD too but so far not really. I am taking 100 mgs daily and will increase over time to see if it can help more.

      Hi, I read your comment and just felt I had to say hi 👋 I have CPTSD, and ADHD, and I think also PMDD, it’s so difficult to navigate it all, and to know what’s real life, and what’s not sometimes? Just wanted to send love, if it’s any comfort to know your not alone! Also trying to navigate it all, the older I get the more I learn but the more it feels impossible to understand 😢 routine and excersise help a lot but with ADHD on top of it all, it’s so hard to stick to routines, not to mention being self employed too!!
      Did try sertraline a year or two ago but it didn’t agree with me! On Mertazapine now, it seems to suit me a bit better! Lots of love from a random stranger!! ❤
