  • Yo BMW fam!
Got a bone to pick with this BMW K1200S. ABS is acting up like a possessed chihuahua, and the speedo's gone AWOL. Talk about a confidence killer!
But hey, ain't nobody gonna fix this beast but me. So, I'm grabbing my tools, cranking up the camera, and diving headfirst into this electrical gremlin's lair.
Get ready for a deep dive into diagnostics, where we'll crack the code on these malfunctioning gizmos. We'll test sensors, chase wires like bloodhounds, and maybe even throw in some science for good measure. ⚡️
Who knows, we might even stumble upon some hidden secrets the German engineers stashed away. Or maybe it's just a loose screw (probably metric, knowing BMW). ‍♂️
But one thing's for sure: we're gonna find the culprit, fix this ABS/speedo tango, and get this K1200S purring like a Bavarian lion.
So hit that subscribe button, grab your wrenches, and let's get wrenching! This is gonna be one wild ride.
*P.S.* If you've ever battled a similar demon in your K1200S, drop some wisdom in the comments below. We're all in this together!

Really interesting to follow your chain of logic to find the faults. Give me a cryptic crossword rather than a wiring diagram any day. I ran a K1200S for several years but now have the much improved (by Ricardo) K1300S. My K1200S gave no problems apart from a pinhole leak in the rad. I'd read on the K-bike forums that if the electric brake servo failed on the K12, the residual braking was almost not-existent - luckily I never got the chance to find out.

I have 2005 K1200s same exact bike, had minor issue with I-ABS, ran dot4 oil replacement procedure, used Moto Scan APP, was successful, no issues. Never run into speedo issues, knock on wood. BWMs are much harder to work on then Japanese bikes from the mid 2000s.

I had the dsc triangle, amber abs and red brake light all on. No speedometer and abs lights flashing along with failed brake light. I tried a rear abs sensor. No luck. Fix was a bent pin in the abs module. Where the plug goes onto the module, a pin was bent up inside of the module. Straighted it out and tweaked the surrounding pins. Some are tiny so be careful. Straightened out the one bent pin. All working well now. 😊

Great video. What’s your preferred source of technical information and wiring diagrams?

This was through my Texa diagnostic tool, I pay extra with the subscription for the tech data. It should be available through Autodata and E3 technical subscriptions as well. 👍

The 'home made' back panel really needs a gasket to make it water tight. Another option could be using a gel potting compound, often used in outside wiring boxes to prevent water and moisture. It has the added advantage of being soft so can easily be removed at a later date.

What software are you using on your computer? I like those diagrams!

Hi, I'm using the Texa PC based software, they do a tablet version, but the PC is better!

Can I please ask what sort of cost is involved with this stupid "brake failure- solid red triangle" issue on these bikes? I've got one.....and I've got the bloody red triangle too! I'm an electronics tech, but not Auto.... Everywhere I look says it's some huge failure that's going to cost thousands! I'm tempted to start working on it, but now I've seen that you need to access the ECU through software etc, which I don't have, I thought I'd ask someone who's clearly got experience. Many thanks in advance.

I enjoy watching your videos. But as for BMW motorcycles, I have no use for them. You go to a BMW shop and you'll find every lift taken and most are major problems. My desire to have a BMW no longer exist. Like I said, I enjoy watching your videos and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!

They can be great bikes to ride but they are riddled with problems. Even Honda's quality has dropped as a lot of their bikes are now made in China! Triumph's are made in India and so are some of the smaller BMW's like the 310GS! Everything is now cheap cheap!👍🙂

So it turned out to be the front abs sensor?

      Yes, plus the module

@@melsmotors ok thx. I have a 2007 which has a different type of abs and my speedometer is also not working. Could it be the front ABS sensor?

@@mariotorchio4075 without live data you're not going get very far! You need to know what the sensors are doing, a fault code will help you look in a certain area, then with live data you can narrow down the issues!
