Aurianna- Apple removed the file browser in the new updates. it was a really useful feature and I dont know why exactly it was removed. In other comments I address this- but wanted to assure you- otherwise its extremely similar. Thanks for the question and hopefully that helps. -Stanislaw
Exactly, Motion to AE is like FCP to Premiere Pro, it's way more modern and faster to work with, but most people are just doing what the next man is doing, and that's why old things like AE is still an industry standard.
TNice tutorials is by far, the best tutorial I have found so far. I feel like I’ll be spending a lot of ti on your channel! Thanks man! Keep up the good
So I have a lot of experience working in Final Cut and all editing programs (Premiere and Avid) but I've never worked in a Motion Graphics app and so when I purchased Motion I opened it and was COMPLETELY overwhelmed and had no idea where to begin. I'm only 15 minutes into this but oh my gosh so many of my anxieties are being calmed by you breaking it down like this. THANK YOU!
Awesome. I'm brand new to Apple Motion and wanted a good tutorial to show me the basics. I bought a 20 minute video from the App Store for $25 which was not an intro at all. So searched TH-cam and found you. Very well explained. And free. The least I can do is like and subscribe. Thankyou so much. :-)
THIS IS STILL RELEVANT IN 2024!!! I know it's been 8 years since you posted this but it was very useful. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the videos in this series. Thank you!

I am watching this in 2022 because i really want to make my own videos, but after 10 years of using PP and AE that was paid for by my employer, they are just too expensive for an indivudual. I am super excited to learn from your tutorials. Thank you!
I was an after effects trainer for an adobe training center before I used motion. For fun and a challenge, I learned Motion and that’s how I developed these lessons. Once you get it, it’s typically faster and easier for about half the daily tasks I would normally do in AE. Good luck!

Helpful tutorial. I appreciate that you purposely do something slightly incorrect, point out the result, and then explain why that result occurred and how to fix it.

You don't skip over small details that are actually quite vital to beginners. Nothing slips through the cracks. I'm no longer intimidated by the application, lol. Well done. 👏

Hello Robert. I have been an Adobe user for quite a long time but recently acquired FCPX and Motion. I opened Motion and played with it about 5 minutes and closed it again. It is definitely different from AE in many respects and I was a bit reluctant to learn something altogether new. BUT, part of my reason for picking up FCPX and Motion are because I never know when I may stop subscribing to Adobe and then all my work would be locked up. Additionally, plug-ins like Red Giant Universe are subscription too. I like knowing that I am not going to be held hostage to get to my work. SO... all that to say, YOU are my first teacher in Apple Motion. And I would say that you do a good job of explaining the basics. I look forward to continuing in your video instruction and want you to know you have another willing student. :-)
Thanks for the kind words. I use After Effects daily along with Motion depending on the project. I'll say that Motion is actually more similar than it is different. the principles, and workflow are essential the same and universal. My name is actually Stanislaw, my middle name is Robert. Thanks for watching. -S
Thanks for checking it out, and appreciate the feedback. Im planning on a whole new set right now. Might take a while to roll out, but Im confident they will be even better. Stay Ultra! -S
I have just purchased motion and I started to watch your tutorials and its amazing. There hasn't been a lot of creators having tutorials about apple products like motion and im so glad I found your channel. After watching your first video, immediate subscribe and can't wait to watch the rest of your videos. Thank you for your tutorials man! I can't wait to make creative stuff with this
Great tutorial - I just downloaded motion and when you first open it, it can be a bit overwhelming. This video really helped demystify apple motion. Thank you
Hey Im really glad to hear that. It can absolutely be a challenge for people new to it but I personally promise if you stick with it you'll be able to make amazing things, useful things and speed up workflow in FCP. Have fun and keep going. -Stanislaw
You make it look so doable ! Thanks for boosting my confidence ! Bought Motion long back... just lying there without being used ! I will open it and try ! Thanks
Your tutorials are awesome. Very helpful. I am still using FCP6 - and an ancient Mac Pro, but it still works - and now it works better thanks to these tutorials.
I just recently switched to Mac, and I got this program. I am just slightly familiar with programs like this but wanted to learn. Found this video, and it is a tremendous help. I appreciate the tutorial!! Great work!
I've always said Motion is the most under appreciated software for editors on the Mac. I want to echo your comment about price. I just bought a new M1 MacBook Pro and when I went to the App Store I downloaded my FCPX and Motion 5 apps without cost. That's because I already owned them. BTW, I bought them in 2011! Talk about value for the dollar!! What would 10 years of Premier and After Effects have cost me? A tad more than $350 I think,.
Im glad it's still useful. It's a bit older but most of the information is the same. Im putting new intro lessons together at this time and hope you like those just as much.
You're one of the best tutorial teachers i've seen/heard. Really well explained. You touch on curiosities and questions ppl might have while explaining which eliminates deviations and misunderstandings, great work!
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! like many people here I was terrified of motion, you made is made sense, you don't waste a second of your video, everything is easy to understand (and when it's not I just rewatch the same part over and over again). I have motion 5.4.6 and head up display is in the upper right corner and called HUD, also there is no file browser, it is replaced by IMPORT button (eww)
You've been sharing your talent pretty well and you are impressive. This is better than the paid courses I bought. You are very generous in sharing! I wish you all the best!
Thanks for this, it’s insanely helpful. I’m finally ready to dive into Motion now. I’m also a teacher, and we use Creative Cloud in my lab (in addition to FCPX), Dan while I love the power of Adobe products, their business model and licensing policies are an absolute nightmare. I’m hoping Apple continues to invest in their software. And yes, I know this video is like 4 years old, but whatever.
Thank you Stanislaw, you are doing a really great job with these tutorials. I'm so glad I found you and saved myself a load of money not going with After Effects. Truly grateful. 🙌
Least I could do, I can see the amount of work you have put in on these and your thought process is perfect. I particularly enjoy the fact that you are not explaining all the controls first, but exploring those whilst doing a project and therefore it has more meaning to me. I followed your instructions and created a project at the same time, pausing the video and it worked beautifully. Thank you again, I appreciate you! 🙌
WOW, I've been so intimidated by Motion I would not even open it up, you have really helped me a lot. I generally stick to Final Cut and love it but this gives you much more range on your project. Thanks!!!
I just will begin to learn video editing and motion graphics do you recommend resolve, final cut or premier for someone that is beginning, I wont use it to find a job, just for youtube.
Incidentally I learned after effects first (and was an Adobe Certified Instructor for a decade) and saw that Motion could do 90% of what After effects can for $50. AV-Ultra was born in part from me teaching myself Motion based on the same principles of teaching After effects. Now here, I rarely use After effects unless its pipeline specific.
So I just saw that you have 22 (33 if you count the quick tips and compressor tutorials) and im probably gonna watch them all. Enjoy the money and the watchtime ;)
After watching several of your Motion tutorials the past few days (in no specific order) and coming midways to this very first one, what you say at the beginning about being a great deal for $50 is almost an understatement... having watched the particles, replicators, behaviors, rigs, title/generators/transition publish to FCPX features, etc I must say I’m floored. I can’t thank you enough for setting up this tutorials. Many years later and they are still 100% relevant. At the beginning one of my main concerns, and I declare myself guilty, was “but where are m’ah-keyframe expressions” from the AE world, not anymore... if it is really not doable then so be it, maybe do that small part in AE or try another way. It is more than capable overall. Any reason why these suite seems to be not that popular? Maybe also I have been on a bubble for the most part and people around tend to dismiss it or joke about it, honestly a lot of the things that AE can do are at least easier and/or streamlined here... AE for me becomes quickly precomps hell. I do find crazy that we have to create our own ‘adjusment layer’ equivalent (an empty Titles publish basically) for example though... that’s something.
It’s a tough call why it’s not more popular. I think a lot of people didn’t take fcpx seriously and people from the ae world looked at motion and saw mostly out of date examples. There isn’t an Andrew Kramer of motion to show how cool it is. Plus 50 for a serious post tool makes it seem like a toy. It turns off professional who spend 10k for flame or nuke 10 years ago. I think really it was way too advanced for its time. There wasn’t a lot of people doing video as much as now and literally everyone has movie quality at their fingertips and now just realizing it. It’s kinda weird but also kinda amazing. It’s been a long while but I believe 2020 is the year a lot of people are discovering it and just like you are saying I could spend $50 dollars for my entire career in motion or spend $7000 for Adobeland software. I’d rather keep the $7000 myself.
Adjustment layers aren’t really a thing. It’s kinda an overlay hack in all systems. I see a LOT of people making ‘adjustment layers’ for people to download but I think it’s a terrible idea. Motion changes a little from version to version and those adjustment layers can break. You can achieve exactly the same effect by using any title included with fcpx and just remove all the text layers and do whatever and now it’s an ‘adjustment layer’ ;)
I also believe a lack of training materials and just showing people what you can do is a huge hindrance. One of the reasons why I moved most of my lessons to motion. It’s outstanding value that can’t be touched, renders really well outside of some motion blurs and particles that seriously need updating on apples end.
@@AVUltra Indeed, very well said. Maybe 2020 is going to be an interesting year. Lots of advancements on many levels, a lot of the plugins I tended to use on AE have a counter part in FCPX/Motion for the most part (mO2 Element3D was a nice discovery for me), explorations on NLE tools on iPad Pro, etc. I also program a bit and have realized that there's actually very good 'getting started' documentation on how to do Generators and Effects via the 'FxPlug' SDK, something that with AE I couldn't ever really get started beyond the usual JavaScript-ing... the barrier for me there was real, seems a lot less scary now. Maybe yourself were ahead of your own time too, here I am watching over 3yo tutorials! Thanks for going through the comments along the assorted videos. I kinda spammed along them as I was watching without realizing it could take too much of your time in one shot. Greatly appreciated.
Thank you for making this video. I'm just trying to get a basic understanding of what Motion is like before I buy. Man, I googled looking for a video explaining it since there's no trial version and it's unbelievable how many videos I had to skip over before I found this one. So many videos about After Effects took search result priority even though I specifically googled Motion 🤨
I have come late, very late to FCP X & Motion 5. My 1st attempts at introducing myself to Motion were dreadful, and disasters. I then discovered your Motion introduction video, and it's like veil being lifted. "I've seen the light". . . . Thank you sir. Plus I have subscribed to your channel, I hope that's OK ? Kind Regards
Better late than never, and in that same thematic. I think you're right on time. Things are just now starting to get really great with FCP and Motion, and I'm excited (and grateful) you found some of my lessons helpful. Thanks for checking it out. -Stanislaw
I use AVID and Premeire and FCPX- and love the integration of Motion and FCPX. It works great. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! -Stanislaw
Thanks for the comment, apple has a lot of documentation, otherwise there’s more information now from other people on TH-cam or other paid training options. If you liked this one, I have a dozen more lessons on TH-cam.
Thank you for posting this! I've been wanting a simple to use software to create and animate videos without having to pay an arm and a leg or "rent" a program with a learning curve like El Capitan.
Thanks for the comment- Out of all the motion graphics suites I use, Motion has been the easiest fastest way for me to create. And the price is so low it really pays for itself after a single job. I hope you make some great things with it. -Stanislaw AV-Ultra
I'm just into making some podcasts on history and adding a video component (but there is only so much one can do with iMovie) - but when I saw the price of After Effects and the amount of technical training, it just didn't seem worth it. Plus, I'm not keen on the idea of 'renting' software. I look forward to seeing more of your tutorials. All the best!
Thank you for some great. instruction. You have a wonderful teaching style that is very easy (for me) to follow. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I look forward to watching again and again - until it all sinks in.
Thank you. The first Motion Tutorial I have been able to follow from start to finish - I am totally new to Motion. I was thrown by a few differences between the release you were obviously using at the time and the current release I have started with - 5.4.5, but I think I managed to suss everything.
Thanks for awesome tutorial Stanislaw! I’ve been battling between learning AE and this and paying for a subscription to do basically the same thing. I got Motion for free as part of a bundle so I really have no excuse not to learn it. I will be watching all of your tutorials and I want to thank you for taking the time out to do it. It’s much appreciated! You’ve got a new subscriber.
Thanks for checking it out and the kind words. The reality is that Motion and After Effects are very similar tool until you get into deep specifics. There are absolutely things that Motion does better than After Effects, and there are things that After Effects can do better. For the price and the versatility- I personally prefer using Motion to accomplish a lot of my Motion graphics needs nowadays, but there are still times where if i need after effects- I can still grab it for a month, but those times are becoming fewer and farther between. I sincerely hope you enjoy the other lessons. I do my best to answer questions and comments in these videos whenever possible, so if there's ever anything you would like to know- don't hesitate to ask. -S
I’m enjoying watching these videos. I’ve never know what to do with Motion. What version of Motion are you using here? I have 5.4.7 and I can’t find things that you have. Your videos are older but features seem better. Thanks
this is an excellent tutorial! thank you. Motion is much more about building and viewing a vertical timeline as opposed to FCPX with a vertical one. thx again
Hi, great video and I love your teaching style, I wish that you would update it though so that your screen shows what I am looking at on my screen. I understand that it changed recently but I never had the old version, it is kinda confusing.
Hmm... At the top where yours says file browser, library, inspector, mine only has library and inspector. Does anyone know why this is?
Aurianna-
Apple removed the file browser in the new updates.
it was a really useful feature and I dont know why exactly it was removed.
In other comments I address this- but wanted to assure you- otherwise its extremely similar.
Thanks for the question and hopefully that helps.

Excellent tutorial! Thank you ;)
Thanks for checking it out.
Great tutorial!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank a lot, man. Obviously the best Motion tutorial in TH-cam
Thanks for checking it out, and appreciate the feedback.
Im planning on a whole new set right now.
Might take a while to roll out, but Im confident they will be even better.
Stay Ultra!

I can't wait to make creative stuff with this
Hey thanks for the comment. Motion is crazy powerful for the price. Hope you enjoy the rest of the lessons.
-Stanislaw
I am a student who studies motion 5. This video helped me a lot. Thank you so much.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
This is a great tutorial. Stanislaw has a gift for teaching.
+Unnderdogg1 Glad I could help! Personally I believe the older macpros are way better. Slap a new gpu in there and it's faster than the new machines.
Wonderful information for a Motion 5 rookie! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I am very new to Motion and needed to know the basics to get me started. This little tutorial has helped me immensely! Thank you!
Im glad it's still useful. It's a bit older but most of the information is the same. Im putting new intro lessons together at this time and hope you like those just as much.
That was a great tutorial! Thank you for this!
If you accidentally trigger a different render view use keyboard shortcut SHIFT +C
@@AVUltra thank you 🙏
Great Video So Appreciated💪🏾🤟🏾
really felt like i was watching the NFL or NASCAR with those title card sound effects. great teacher! great video
You're one of the best tutorial teachers i've seen/heard. Really well explained. You touch on curiosities and questions ppl might have while explaining which eliminates deviations and misunderstandings, great work!
Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the other lessons as much.

I have been trying to learn this for a long time now. finally something worth my 30 min. I really appreciate it man. Thanks a bunch.
Very easy to understand and yet speedy and complete instruction! Nice! Thank you very much.
You make it easier for newbies. Thanks!
Thanks for watching
It was a very good and useful first tutorial.
That was well spend 30 min. Nice work!
Thanks for watching. Im planning on having another 5 motion lessons in the next month or so
Well done Stanislaw! I am a Motion rookie and your instruction has helped so much!
You've been sharing your talent pretty well and you are impressive. This is better than the paid courses I bought. You are very generous in sharing! I wish you all the best!
Thanks so much 😊. That was originally my plan when I started out. Theres not a lot of content out there for Motion and it's really powerful.
It is still an excellent tutorial even after 3 years! thanks a lot.
Absolutely!
You're welcome!
Great stuff buddy! Keep it up!
Thanks for the kind words. I guess the good news is the core topics and workflow hasnt changed too much yet.
well done!
Thank you Stanislaw, you are doing a really great job with these tutorials. I'm so glad I found you and saved myself a load of money not going with After Effects. Truly grateful. 🙌
Thanks for the kind words.
I truly appreciate it.
So useful thanks lot sir
Loved it !! Thank you
You're so welcome!
Man, I was desperately looking for a way to get these essentials about motion. You gave it to me perfectly explained. I appreciate a lot!
best Apple Motion tutorial i've ever seen... Thumbs up!
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
This was one of the most incredible tutorials ever thank you so much, you're awesome!!!
Thanks for the kind words about the lessons. Apple motion is amazing especially for the price and integration.
Awesome. I'd like to switch to Motion from After Effects. Thanks.
Thank you so much. I have started to watch about 8 videos. And yours had the clearest explanation.
+China Moses Thanks for watching.
I have a whole set of motion lessons online to get up and running. Be sure to check them out.
-Stanislaw
Very cool - thanks
So I just saw that you have 22 (33 if you count the quick tips and compressor tutorials) and im probably gonna watch them all. Enjoy the money and the watchtime ;)
thank you very much from Saudi Arabia
You’re welcome!
Thanks so much for checking it out.
Really well done tutorial! I'm not too intimidated to jump in to Motion now.
Glad to hear it. It was tough trying to cover everything Motion can do.Thanks for the comment!
woah, just went from imovie to Motion and this is awesome, I've got a loooot to learn! This was realllllllly helplful!
Thanks for watching. Its a great program. I wish Apple would fully update parts of it but its incredibly powerful for the price.
Just found this tutorial playlist of your Robert. Great video, you made the process pretty easy to grasp. Thanks alot!
Thanks for the kind words.
I'm really excited to have a few more giveaways like transitions coming up.
-Stanislaw
Thank you. Just starting with Motion. Clear and concise. I'll be doing the whole trainning.
Hey thanks for the free tutorial! I just got apple motion and intend on watch every tutorial you have. Thanks again so much!
Thanks for the kind words. Hope it helps.
-Stanislaw
Much respect for your work, been using final cut for music videos, now getting into the graphics side of thing with motion, apple all the way!
I use AVID and Premeire and FCPX- and love the integration of Motion and FCPX. It works great.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
-Stanislaw
wow! my English isnt the best but I understand u perfectly
perfect introduction of motion! Good Work :)
Thanks for watching.
Appreciate the comment and glad you could understand it.

Amazing. Thank you for this. Liked and subscribed 👏👏👏
Great tutorial. Thanks. where do I find more about Motions?
Thanks for the comment, apple has a lot of documentation, otherwise there’s more information now from other people on TH-cam or other paid training options. If you liked this one, I have a dozen more lessons on TH-cam.
@@AVUltra Thanks. I will look up your lessons soon. Very good and usefull.
Thank you for posting this! I've been wanting a simple to use software to create and animate videos without having to pay an arm and a leg or "rent" a program with a learning curve like El Capitan.
Thanks for the comment-
Out of all the motion graphics suites I use, Motion has been the easiest fastest way for me to create.
And the price is so low it really pays for itself after a single job.
I hope you make some great things with it.

SO helpful bro

AV-Ultra thanks again and if I have questions I will definitely ask!
Tks for the tutorial !
Thanks for checking it out

I’m enjoying watching these videos. I’ve never know what to do with Motion. What version of Motion are you using here? I have 5.4.7 and I can’t find things that you have. Your videos are older but features seem better. Thanks
this is an excellent tutorial! thank you. Motion is much more about building and viewing a vertical timeline as opposed to FCPX with a vertical one. thx again
Hi, great video and I love your teaching style, I wish that you would update it though so that your screen shows what I am looking at on my screen. I understand that it changed recently but I never had the old version, it is kinda confusing.
Hi there!-
Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching!
