So, they only remained to supply weapons, a supply that has dwindled fast, in the last year. All the while Russia is still maintaining their fire superiority over Ukraine.

@@harounel-poussah6936 > Why wouldn't they?
China.
> the people of Sakhalin and Kamchatka have ALL interest at becoming Japanese rather than Chinese!
What the people want is largely irrelevant. Japan is unlikely to fire the first shot in a war with China as the Japanese military is simply not large enough to win such a war regardless of what anyone believes about relative quality of equipment and training. If China wants those islands, the best Japan will be able to do is negotiate some sort of free travel/trade agreement.
That said, I'm not sure China would actually want them. They might not. But they still won't want the Japanese to get them because that's just how geopolitics is. They'd ensure those islands remain under Russian control if they aren't going to be Chinese.
I'm sure Japan would complain to the UN or whatever other international bodies and try to make their claim in that way, but China would be under no obligation to give a shit any more than Russia cares about the international recognition of Crimea as still being part of Ukraine. All the paperwork and impassioned speeches in the world don't change the reality of boots on the ground if the people telling those boots to be there doesn't want to change their orders.
> if the governor of Vladivostok is clever, he's already taking steps to make his oblast a part of Japan when Russia goes bankrupt
That's not how anything works. That would be explicitly treasonous and it's unlikely the Japanese would be receptive to such a thing as it would severely damage their own position if it got exposed. And even if such a large realignment does occur (unlikely but not impossible), China would again be asserting their own claim over the territory which Japan would be even more unlikely to directly contest than they would be for the islands.
Wouldn't necessarily take "collapse".
Two scenarios:
1. the Russian military falls below the critical threshold of conbat readiness. They're not too far from that now.
2. Russian national TV starts playing "Swan Lake"...
Maybe China too!
