    In the video, the word Hypersonic Missile is used to refer to Hypersonic Cruise Missile. This is clearly Mentioned In the video Itself.
    Most of the Ballistic missiles have the capability to go at Hypersonic Speeds. Many countries have such Ballistic Missiles.
    And also, there are other rocket-driven missiles which have Hypersonic Speeds. But they are not Cruise Missiles. The Only Cruise Missile in active service now, that has Hypersonic Speed Is the Russian Zircon.

      NO they dont.
      the Russian missile, the Zircon does MACH 4 top speed, vcat eben catch SR 71,
      just download the video of Zircon and do the math, MACH 4 was it, MACH 4 is not halfway to Hypersonic.

      @@LewisMuturi-b7u Iran does not have Hypersonics. The missiles from Iran are just normal ballistic missiles. Yes, they travel at hypersonic speed, but so do all ballistic missiles. The Zircon is not quite a hypersonic either, although it seems to be very capable none the less. Also, the Iskander, and Kinzhal are not Hypersonics, they are also standard ballistic missiles. Russia loves putting out propoganda.

    Recent ballistic missiles have a limited period in ballistic trajectory. They use thrusters and vanes to change direction. Even more modern ones barely exit the atmosphere to reduce interception. They have a tremendous ability to change direction and impact angle. They are definitely not pure ballistic.

    There has been a gross over usage of the term hypersonic. 5x the speed of sound doesn't make it hypersonic. If that's the case we've had hypersonic weapons since the 50s. Hypersonic means 5x the speed of sound, but stays under a specific ceiling to deprive the enemy the ability to detect and react to the weapon before it makes impact. It essentially hides behind the curvature of the earth and maneuvers around radar stations to remain hidden. The reason why everyone isn't doing that is because of the incredible difficulty of keeping the materials from melting due to air friction, but also the ability to steer itself at those speeds is also incredibly difficult because you lose the electronics when there's a cone of plasma between the guidance system and the fins. At higher altitudes there's less air friction but you also lose the element of surprise and it then takes on a ballistic trajectory, yes you can maneuver a little bit but the trade off of less air friction is that you turn a lot slower.

    • @Tabula_Rasa1
      @Tabula_Rasa1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is what I heard about the overheating cone. I didnt know about the "curvature of the earth and maneuvers around radar stations". I thought hypersonic can change flight trajectory too.

Amazing what you can learn in 17 minutes, I've always wondered about the term ballistic in missiles as compared with general ballistics, in WW1 artillery units required engineers or mathematicians on site in order to calculate trajectories. Sadly it took the lives of great minds like Karl Schwarzschild who died of aquired autoimmune disease in the Russian front in 1916.

    A ballistic projectile is one in which the only force on it is the constant force of gravity, causing it to describe an inverted parabola. A missile that is either powered or is subject to air resistance is not a ballistic projectile. Even without thrust or air drag, a missile that ascends high enough will depart from a ballistic trajectory due to the fact that the acceleration of gravity is no longer constant and is decreasing with altitude. The trajectory of a missile can be modeled fairly accurately through the use of numerical computer solutions to the differential equations of motion, where all the forces are taken into account.

    The word ballistic comes from the Roman slighshot type weapon called the ballista. Ballistic means that the project’s propulsion is similar to a projectile shot out of a ballista.

    A better way to explain it would be to draw the Y and Z axis and draw the vectors of the thrust in these axis. The boost phase accelarate in the y and x axis but the moment the boost is over no more acceleration takes place in the x axis. But the deceleration takes place in the y axis untill maximum height. After which acceleration takes place in y axis as gravity pulls it to the ground. The missile does not take advantage of gravity but fights against gravity and carry the missile high enough so that the velocity in the x axis can carry the missile horizontal before gravity pulls it into the ground.
