      Hey I live in Australia, there is a Mazda 6 for sale which is missing the top end of the motor, they’re looking for $3500, is that worth? I dont mind doing the repairs, but where can I source an engine top, or whole engine? If I can find any in SA?

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is that a Speed 6? If so I'd say it's defo worth it, to give an idea a speed 6 with a fully blown engine and no reg cost about $3500nzd here in New Zealand.
      Also how many Kms are on the short block?
      I don't know where to buy Mazda engine parts over in Australia, hopefully one of our other Aussie veiwers can help you out with that, though ik here in New Zealand you'll see them for sale in Mazdaspeed buy and sell groups on Facebook

      @@LifeOfTuners yeah it’s a speed 6, I’m unsure of how many kms are on the short block, I might make it a project to swap the engine, what should I be looking for? Also I’ll check out some buy swap groups for the speed 6!

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh yeah, I'd find out how many Kms are on it, because if its not too high, then just buy a head for it, that way you'll really feel the full value of it. Because engines for these things arent the cheapest.
      In terms of engines, just know that they will tend to want to blow up once they reach 200,000kms, though could go earlier or later.
      Other then that, check the compression of it, maintenance records and see if the timing belt is due for a change or if it has already

    • @abadmixtape
      @abadmixtape 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I bought my 2007 Speed 3 six years ago with 82,000 miles, bone stock. Now it’s 173,400 miles full bolt on, bigger turbo, tuned (obviously) and still on the stock motor. If installing aftermarket parts all it comes down to is doing your research, going with quality, trusted brands, regular maintenance and a proper tune.

    For higher mileage, and especially modified speeds, having aftermarket injector seals and having had the injectors serviced and flow tested would be good too. Great vid!

    Some common problems:
    × High fuel consumption than some rivals;
    × Sparkplugs wear out fast;
    × High Oil Consumption
    × Weak standard mounts (rmm,tmm &pmm);
    × Worn VVT actuator cause timming chain to streach fast, you can notice by cold start rattle;
    × Turbo seals may go out soon if there exhaust modifications
    × Front tyres go out faster
    Apart from this they're very solid cars, Superb Handling, fun to drive and fast (can be seriously fast if modded)

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeahhh though I guess a lot of that is the consequence of having a higher hp 4 cylinder, (spark plugs, tyres, fuel)

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nah man, it should be allgood, the only thing that worsens it exhaust wise is a cat delete or going to a wider diameter exhaust system.
      Technically those actually don't make it worse, they just show the smoke a lot easier, for example if your turbo was already smoking a little bit and then you did a cat delete, the smoke would now be thicker

      That's great, though I saw the comment before it's edited, 11.5K NZ is way too much for 248k, unless it's got a new engine. If it hasn't, I'd be paying 7k Max, I still wouldn't buy it at that price, as it has a high chance of blowing up soon

      Ah right, I mean that's not too high, 200+ is when they typically blow up.
      But make sure it's had its timing chain replaced, they usually tend to start going bad around 150k

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, 12,000kms is too long for these, it's well known in the community, espically amoungst those that have had many of these cars, that you should be doing it every 5k-8k kms (3-5k miles)
      They're temprimental engines that are very fussy, but treat them right and they'll treat you right

    • @Bv1nte
      @Bv1nte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LifeOfTuners unless you buy one new, you will never find one with 8k km services from new. New cars need to follow brand service intervals to maintain warranty. And I doubt that the 1st owner would bring the car for expensive dealer service before time😂

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean if it's been done correctly for the majority of its life it should be alright I guess, the most important years, being the latest years before you've bought it.
      And remeber in 2013 when the last one was made, the mazdaspeed engine had been out for 8 ish years, some select people knew about maintaining them, though only the real fans would've known

    • @Bv1nte
      @Bv1nte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Telling you that because I'm looking to buy one and the service manual always shows 10/12k km service intervals from new on Mazda dealers🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @LifeOfTuners
      @LifeOfTuners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I know that, but trust the people who have spent their money on it and have spent years on years around them.
      If you go by that logic, you'd probaly assume that since it runs a timing chain (not belt) that they don't need to be replaced (since chains aren't meant to stretch) but they do and you do need to replace them
