Hi Rob. Fabulous. This song has always been one of my favourites since I heard it the film Ghost And the Bobby Hatfield version was always my favourite until now .Lucy just crushed it absolutely beautiful rendition of this song. I have heard many versions of this song and Lucy´s is the best by a mile. Lucy is just a phenomenal artist Best female vocalist out there today no doubt in my mind.

Not one comment about Lucy's version said it gave them goosebumps, chills or made them cry. Bobby Hatfield's version did that to most people. Lucy has a beautiful voice, but her singing has very little variation nor the true heart wrenching feeling and desperation that Bobby put into it. This will always be Bobby's song!

Rob, I must say I'm not surprised at your reaction reaction to Lucy. Right out of the box your eyes popped and your jaw dropped. Then your real feelings kicked in. I saw what I thought was you wiping tears (wasn't sure ) but then a little later it got more and you even mentioned being choked up. Kudo's for leaving your reactions in. Lucy can have a gut reaction in me too; chills and tears. I've even had to pull off the road because of the reaction and I need time to recompose and get my eyes back so I can see to drive. I've been following Lucy for quite a while now. What attracted me was her killer vibrato (perfectly symmetrical), her silky voice, her perfect pitch (no going flat or sailing up), and how she throws herself into what she is singing along with the fact that emotion from her voice comes through. I've used all my superlatives while commenting to her or about her. And yes, she tends to make renditions her own.

From autumn Lucy will be on stage in the lead role of the new musical "Rosie" in London. And who knows, maybe one day she'll sing on Broadway - she definitely has the potential!

Hey Rob. This was an outstanding performance by Lucy. One that I feel is her best ever. Hopefully, she’ll get the worldwide attention she so deserves.

    Great reaction Rob!
This is my number one favorite song. It is almost impossible for anyone to sing it better than the late Bobby Hatfield.
But Lucy did sing it even better, of course. I don’t know about you, but Lucy got me with her very first note and she never let go!
“UNCHAINED MELODY” is the most beautiful song ever, and this was the best rendition of it that I have ever heard!
We always think Lucy can’t possibly get any better, and then she proves us wrong.
Lucy has the most beautiful voice in the history of song!
    Best regards,
    Hopelessly Addicted in Arizona

Most definitely prefer Lucy Thomas' version (reinvention) of this inmortal melody, notwithstanding that the Righteous Brothers brought it to universal fame. What she does with, and to it, is no less than incredible. Knowing how to guide it with her incomparable facial and bodily expressions makes the song come to life with a femenine touch and treatment, that I think is magical. Some will not agree with this sensual, stylish version (reinvention) of hers, but they will not be able to deny that it is new and wonderful. And it is!

Lucy is just stunning whenever and whatever she sings. Lucy's self expression is outstanding too, and adds to the difference between the two artists featured today. Lucy is most certainly the best vocalist around today and heavens! We have so much to look forward too from Lucy from here on in. Beautiful!

First off the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield was NOT the original singer, he also covered it, the song was originally written for a movie about a guy in prison singing for his girl friend/wife, asking her to "wait for Him, "are you still mine" time goes by so slowly, in prison. just a FYI, Lucy also covered it and crushed,it owns it now !!! There "reportibly" has been over 1500 versions of this song !!! !

Lucy has nailed every single song i have listened to her singing and to be perfectly honest I don't think there is a song out there that she can't smash out the park , her range , tone & clarity are on another level

  • @barrygentry5364

I like the Righteous Brothers version but prefer Lucy’s version. It’s slower and more melodic because the notes aren’t as short as in the first version, which allows Lucy to show off her beautiful tone of voice and her ability to hold the notes perfectly. ❤

You stating that Lucy doesn’t cover a song but reinvents it is on point! When she sings a classic like this, she wipes away the original artist and now it’s just Lucy Thomas!

Lucy sensibly didn't try to compete with Bobby Hatfield's amazing version. Instead, she took the traditional version to a whole new level. With every recording, it seems, Lucy's voice grows richer and more mature. Each time, I think that she cannot get any better - and then she does!

Lucy’s voice is just so silky smooth and gorgeous , I have to give this one to Lucy though I did enjoy the jazzier music and the ending of the original. Thanks Rob for your support of Lucy and I like the word reinvention!

Bobby Hamilton had to resort to a falsetto voice several times in order to sing this song. However, Lucy sings every note. Her voice is rich and full in all registers whereas Bobby’s is thin at times. Hands down, Lucy owns this song. She has set the new standard. Lucy is phenomenal! She has now reached the point in vocal development where she is in a class by herself. She is likely the best vocalist of all time.

I had the pleasure of hearing and watching Bobby sing this at Humphries in San Diego ! It was a reunion for him and Bill- awesome!! Now, witnessing Lucy hit this out of the ball park was magic. No need to compare/ just enjoy perfection as it comes and treasure each! Bobby’s version was voted number one on the 100 top songs of all time on my favorite radio station for several years in a roll/ must tell us something !! Lucy ? NO words can cover it! I’m so proud of EACH talent… the YIN AND YANG OF MUSICAL PERFECTION. Bill and Bobby had the perfect harmony (blue eyed soul) now we have Lucy and Martha … just enjoy!!!!❤Shane
    Oh// she gave goosebumps!! Satisfied?

Don't want to compare the two as both versions are great in their own right!,in saying that Lucy is just mesmerising & I see this version as a wonderful tribute to B.H.😊

Hear, hear, John! When you have two such brilliant renditions of the same song, comparison is invidious - just enjoy both and revel in the audio experience!
Having said that, Lucy is with us now and is the future - and, at the age of 20, is getting better and better with each new release! As one expert vocal coach reacted after Lucy's cover of 'Evergreen' (at the age of 19) - 'the female voice does not fully mature until the age of 28-32, so who knows where Lucy's voice will be when she reaches this age?' What an exciting time we 'Lucy Lovers' have to look forward to over the next few years! 😀

I really love the way Lucy is slowing down the song so you can enjoy both the melody and the lyrics.Lucy can do that because she such an outstanding breath control. That last note was about 12 seconds long... And yes, she did her fair share of "Lucy-ism" on the song to make it "her song" but as you say: so much respect in it for the orginal song. You can hear Lucy is more of a musical singer than a pop singer and I love it. I did understand next autumn the new musical "Rosie the musical" will have it's premiere, and Lucy plays the main character in that musical. Again: that's what I did understand. What is for sure: the songs are already on cd and on streamingsites like Spotify. So I think in a few month from now Lucy's name will be known by many more people. And if there is one person on the planet who deserves that? Lucy is.

Cover is technically correct, but the Righteous Brothers version is not the original. Sung by Todd Duncan, with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret it was written for the 1955 film, "Unchained". The movie, and song is about a prisoner longing to go back to his wife. It was nominated for an Oscar, but lost out to "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing". Lucy's version is the best in my opinion.

Hello Rob, I love your idea of playing two copies of the same song by two seperate artists, this time you have picked the best two versions of this songH ever made. I loved Booby Hatfields version i still remember it when the Righteous Brothers first covered in the 60's & it remained the greatest version ever made until I heard Lucy's cover. Lucy's version is just so beautiful , it is so amazing I hope it goes mainstream it is just so good. I think now Lucy's is the best version, take care, Barbara.
