I'm new to your channel, so you may have a very good reason why there is a stump next to where you stack your logs to buck for splitting. While watching this video, it appears that the stump impedes your workflow and efficiency. I would recommend cutting the stump down as low as you can and grinding it below the ground surface so the ground can be relatively flat in that area. You can rent a stump grinder, hire someone to do it for you for about $150 or you can place a metal 55 gallon barrel with both ends cut out and make a fire on top of the stump and burn the stump down).
Yessir that is a good observation! I used to use it to hold my stack of logs. I think I will be changing my operation here soon and the stump will need to be removed. Thanks for watching and welcome to the Channel!

You’ve given me an idea for a firewood bucket in my wood yard 😉 stay tuned, I’m hoping to use a SSQA plate like you did to keep the extra weight of the forks and frame, that way I’ll have more capacity for wood. Thank you sir. Yes, make it as light as possible. I have 1/2” ssqa plate and I believe I couldn’t went down to 3/8” maybe even 1/4”. That would’ve cut down 50 pounds.
I think if it was me, I would add a front to your firewood bucket. Could make it hinged on the top with break-over latches on the bottom. Kind of like a tail gate on a gravel truck. Could be made pretty light weight if you use expanded metal with a light angle iron frame. Just a thought.
Yeah I might need it down the road when I’m adding conveyors in the mix. As of right now I’m dumping in piles and I need the wood to slide easily and quickly out of the bucket. The gate will slow down the dump and make it harder on the tractor. Good thought just don’t need it right now. Thanks for watching.
Nice vid start to finish. You do a fair amount of work, pretty smooth operation. I would have to grind that stump though you keep driving around, knowing me I would hit that sooner than later with the KIoti. BTW Subscribed based on your hard work.
I was splitting big oak and maple rounds 8hrs yesterday in 92 degree heat . 20-36" rounds. I have like 15 cords of giant logs and rounds to get split. No fun compared to easy splitting in 20 degree weather. Big rounds suck when u don't have a log lift so I've just been cutting them in half . I want to get an axis or WR 17VSC but when firewood sales are terrible the past 8 months can't even get better equipment. Still have 60 cords of ash,birch,oak logs piled to get thru. Possibly have to rent a processor and make a giant bin to pile it on
While sales might be bad right now just know you are adding to the bank for winter. A splitter will pay for itself In two years easily. if you have the money up front. Go ahead and buy it and you will see the wood stack up fast.
I'm curious why you noodled that first oak round versus just splitting it? It was already right next to the Wolf Ridge. I am enjoying this content! Keep it coming!
I find it easier to noodle big rounds instead of splitting them. I roll the rounds close to the splitter then I cut them so that I don’t have to carry each quarter to the splitter. It’s easier to roll a round to the splitter than carry 4 quarters. Thanks for watching!

Just a thought, if you had an 8" round under the front edge of your bucket so it leaned back a little more splits would stay in. Less hand work.
I have actually tried it and the wood will start falling out of the back of the bucket before the bucket fills up. Good thought though .

Yessir, goals are huge. It’s helped me almost double my inventory from last year at this time. I didn’t always split every weekend but now I have to!

Matt, would log lift work on those big rounds without having to noodle them down?
Yes it will pick it up no problem. I just noodle the big rounds down to make it easier to split.
