Uhm... this came out of nowhere and just resulted in one single moment of the movie being scorched into my brain with hellfire. That was many levels of bad. I'll only critique it for coming out of nowhere. It acted like it had been built up or something, but I don't recall a plot line about the Mad Hatter being sad and hasn't danced since the Red Queen took over or anything like that. In Last Boyscout with Bruce Willis, having very nearly been killed in loads of shootouts, Bruce swears that if he survives this he'll dance a jig. Humorously he happens to defeat the final bad guy when he happens to be at a location packed with people for a football game, so when he keeps his promise to the Universe and indeed dances his jig, the cameras are on him and he's on the big screen.
This scene was always kind of frustrating to me. It's surreal and weird, which fits wonderland well, but the style is too connected with hip hop and breakdancing, and being able to do those moves that are impossible to survive, when I was supposed to be worried about him getting hurt a little bit earlier, really shatters suspension of disbelief for me. It brought in too much of our modern world, while simultaneously shattering the mortal aspects of The Hatter which I could relate to. Take the hip hop out, and leave head spinning for the more cereal and less physical creatures like the Cheshire Cat, and I'd have no problem with it.
This makes me wonder why The Mad Hatter would ever have to fear having his neck snapped or body dismembered if he can do all this
