Interesting vid. I’ve just discovered your channel so comments will be popping up here and there. Boat running costs are always interesting for comparisons. I’m about 51 weeks into boat ownership and was a complete boat virgin too. I brought a 10 year old Bavaria s29. I’ve not worked out the full running costs for my first year yet but marina fees are £4850 for the first year! As you say, the variations can be very large 😅

You have a great boat and thanks for subscribing to the channel.
I have noticed the costs vary hugely even for consumables. Please feel to suggest or ask for anything I can possibly help with.

You are doing a great job seriously great videos & very honest as well, & a very nice Beneteau as well, great boats. I had boats way back in the late 1980's & 1990's, then took time out for no reason just very busy with business etc, then about 15yrs ago got back into it. Boating lets you switch off from the stress of life, so nice job keep at it as well very interesting indeed, oh by the way I now have a Sealine SC35 which is a lovely boat, cracking stuff keep at it

Which yard are you in on the Thames Estuary seems like an interesting choice. I am not looking for luxury just want somewhere safe with reasonable access to the boat tide permitting.

Island Yacht Club. You have to do probation and you are not guaranteed a mooring. It depends on what is available, and you have to commit some time to the club as part of a probationary period.

Yeah, I already got a boat and I try to do more or less everything myself, but this is good info for beginners.

Really pleased you find it useful. I do have an electrical issue come to light recently that I will cover in a future video...but I think I'll need professional help on that one.
      Appreciate the feedback.

Well done on this i to have just completed the first year of boat ownership and as you say my costs are going to be massively different again as I trailer my boat around so don’t have a mooring but I have to pay every time I want to use it and I do all my own maintenance so just parts cost , but this way means I know my boat and I can and do use it in a wide range of places so far that being the sound coast ( yes we have met nick a few times lol even been on a few of his videos lol ) a lot and local rivers . But all in all we love boating to the point I am now in the process of getting a bigger boat now we know what we need/ want a boat to be able to do for us
Well done with the channel I have thought about doing the same but not up there yet editing wise lol

Thanks so much for this feedback. It really means a lot.
Boating has been transformative for me (and to an extent my family), as it gave me a purpose of things to get out of the house during the lockdowns to go and do jobs when we couldn't do the clubs/sports with the kids.
Any suggestions or videos you want to share with me to post on the channel, happy to look at.

Hi, interesting and informative, I am 3yrs in with a brig 570 nav 100hp Suzuki I bought new which is great , everybody’s costing as a boat owner will be different , my boat is in premiers Chichester marina so I have access to the Solent and surrounding . I bought new as a first proper boat as a newbie to buy into the warranties that came with it . I don’t think you can get away from the fact that boating is not a cheap hobby but by the same token why should you have to justify the cost to anybody as long as you can afford it , As something that you have bought and want to use as much as the elements allow here’s where it can get expensive PETROL !! I am 64 , work full time but I reckon I can only afford realistically to take it out twice a month , the boating season runs from march till oct ? Then it sits on its mooring costing me £10 a day going nowhere , yesterday I took 2 friends out for the day , burnt 46ltrs of fuel , you do the maths , I don’t regret having it and if I did would sell it , just my personal take on boating , will follow your blog , have subscribed 👍

Cheers Cliff. Great observations and as you say the costs can vary greatly. I suspect your mooring costs are massively different from mine, and just like you, I am not trying to justify it to anyone.
I'm just trying to give the viewers an honest overview of my costs of ownership, and to hopefully show that it is possible to get into boating. It isn't an exclusive hobby.
Thanks for watching and subscribing, I appreciate your valued support.
