    Luke, the arms are tight because you’re such a beast. Hate hood hanging! I can stand stock still and sweat; it needs to breath and ventilate. Thanks for the good review. Texas

    I have a similar jacket (4x the price from a major brand) - the only way I can get the hood to sit comfortably is to have a baseball cap on and use the brim to keep the top of the hood opening up.

    I hate tight arms and no pit zips. I'll pass on this one. I have an older Eddie Bauer jacket that has pit zips, and a back vent and I can still sweat so much that I get swampy. My XL is just 18 oz. so I'll keep what I have. Thanks for the review.

    This would make a great addition to my day pack for those surprise t-storms. Just in case I left my really nice raincoat at home or in the car! Small enough, and cheap enough, to put it in the pack and leave it. Or as a backup in case someone else needs one.

    For the hood pulls, tie the first part of a Stopper Knot (www.netknots.com/rope_knots/stopper-knot) without completing the last feed through the noose end. Quick, easy, requires no additional hardware.

    Another pretty thorough review, of an obscure, and relatively unknown rain jacket.
    The jacket looks OK for the price, but as Luke pointed out not very breathable, and the lack of pit zips is a glaring omission.
    Another important question to raise is "Does the jacket incorporate the use of a DWR coating?"
    This is important, because as we all should know, DWR must be reapplied regularly!
    To quote the reviewers from the Outdoor Gear Lab...An essential component of a jacket's water resistance is its Durable Water Repellent or DWR treatment. This treatment is factory applied to the fabric's exterior and makes the water bead when it lands on the surface of the jacket, allowing it to shed it. Even though both nylon and polyester are hydrophobic, if they aren't treated with a DWR (or after the treatment wears off), they "wet out", or become covered with a thin but continuous film of water.
    So there is still an unanswered question regarding this jacket. Does it incorporate DWR?
    Personally, I own many jackets that are multi layer from different manufacturers, that incorporate the use of DWR, as the main barrier to prevent the wetting out of the jacket's fabrics. I have to regularly reapply the DWR to maintain waterproofness.
    However, I have now moved on from traditional rain jackets that rely on DWR, and just purchased my first OutDry Extreme jacket, the Men’s OutDry Ex Reign Jacket from Columbia.
    OutDry Extreme does not utilize or incorporate DWR into it's waterproofing system, so it is basically maintenance free.
    Outdry Extreme has at least a 20,000 mm water column, or hydrostatic head water resistance/waterproof rating, which is very high, combined with great breathabilty, which is helped by having pit zips on my jacket.
    I paid $55.00 delivered using a sale and coupons, so nearly the same price as this reviewed bargain jacket.
    I would suggest outdoor enthusiasts take a look at OutDry Extreme rain gear.

    I think if they add pit zips, improve the fit, and fix the hood adjustment, they could charge, maybe $10 more, and it would be a great deal.

    A lot of newer rain coats/shell has adjustable cords on the inside of the jacket. I don't like it since i would have to unzip to adjust hood and zip back up. Sometimes I need the jacket to be zip up to get hood right. You can buy those cord holders from any outdoor companies in the accessories. I would cut off that end knob and slip in a cord holder and tie a knot at the end of the cord.

    Pro tip here. Look at the brand store page on Amazon for these products. The all capital names are typically just rebranded alibaba rebranded cheap products and that brand name will last as long as they don't get any negative publicity. If their stuff starts failing they'll just start a new company and keep going. It's a plague on Amazon. The company page for Gymax includes a Gymax foosball table and Gymax Basketball hoop.

    I do understand the breathe-ability sweat issue...that is a deal breaker for me as I tend to sweat more than most. I'd rather just save up for a better material jacket and really believe in the "buy once, cry once" mentality, especially when it comes to clothing comfort.

    • @r-pupz7032
      @r-pupz7032 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same - but since losing my job I just can't afford a new expensive jacket, even with saving up. However, I can afford a second hand one off eBay. That makes so much more sense to me, especially if you get one in good condition and don't mind refreshing the DWR (which most jackets need periodically anyway so no big deal!)
      I got an an OR Interstellar for £50, really good condition and so much better than most £50 jackets found in stores! I also like the idea of repurposing and reusing items that still have plenty of life in them, but that's a personal preference :)

    You hang it by the hood so the whole thing can dry. If you hang it by the little tab (which are very often too weak to last very long) then the hood droops against the coat and it doesn't dry right.

  • @omarrivera5353
    @omarrivera5353 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Luke on your question for Walmart not sure if someone answered you yet. Here some of my feedback usually the reason is they run out of stock and put a higher price range so no one will make a purchase not sure of it's easier for them to do that versus it saying it's out of stock but they do that till they get more stock in and lower the price. The other possibility will be that Walmart allows many third party companies to sale on walmart site. They to usually have instock issue and will do the same as Walmart in a higher price till back instock or they plainly have a way higher price. Easy way to tell is under the price will say sold by Walmart.com or can say sold by Wayfair or some other online company. Hope this helps and make sense. Take care bro ✌

  • @anhatur
    @anhatur 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason for the price at Walmart is simple: They think they may be able to charge that much.
    Retail prices depend on what customers are willing to pay, not on production costs. Revenue, however, is the difference between what they can sell for and what they have to pay for it.
    So with a high price tag they can say “this is a high quality product”, and if that doesn’t work they can slap on the “Sale!” tag later. And still have a decent revenue.

    Luke, remove the cord pull and replace it with a barrel cord lock. As long as the cord material isn't too narrow the barrel lock should work....one on both sides.

    I don't understand why more companies don't add puet zips, especially more budget jackets.
    Sure, the absolute cheapest jacket won't have them, that's fine - but for cheap jackets, breathability is the main issue and pit zips really help in that regard, for far less money than using gore-tex or equivalent.
    I do get that it would add cost, especially if they use decent water-resistant zippers, and there would be a small weight penalty, but it really seems worth it for most jackets.
    Lack of pit zips are also a deal-breaker for many, especially if the fabric isn't super breathable. The only jacket I've found that works well without them is the OR Interstellar, which is a premium jacket at a premium price, so a totally different market.
    Adding them would definitely boost sales, even if it costs a tiny bit more. It feels like a no-brainer, but maybe in missing something? Is it that much harder to produce a jacket with pit zips? Is adding some extra zippers and weight just too much? I don't get it..
