I'm working on an old 1968 case 480ck backhoe (same motor and starter as yours), worst shape starter I've ever seen, I poured almost a pint of rust dust out of it. Anywho, I have the opposite problem of yours, my bendix is good, but rust chunks took out the brushes/brush springs, brush plate, so I'm in the process of figuring out a cheap rebuild parts alternatives. I got like 10 disassembled jeep starters with an old willys jeep project I bought, motor housing won't fit over case commutator, but the brushes/brush plate looks like it will swap over, will see if bendix will slip onto jeep commutator, if it does, I'll post it up here, gonna try brush plate swap first. A lot of the willys jeep guys use a $60 gear reduction starter off an 80's land cruiser, so I'm hopeful I could make that work, will let you know if it works.
