48 years on guitar, been paying my bills by playing guitar since 1990. I'm turning 62 this week, and I wish I could name everything,(even 1/4) that I play.. the way you do... "remember the 9 is a fifth of your 5" is like a foreign language to me... So..kids... learn theory.. you will be glad you did. synchronicity?
Saw Joe live in Charlotte this past weekend. This artist is legendary in his craft and is one of the nicest and most genuine human beings you’ll ever meet.
I had the privilege of spending 4 days with Joe, TE, pat bergason, joe Nichols at a guitar camp for TE. Joe is the real deal. Super talented and a really good person. Australia produces some great guitarists.
Great show! I love how enthusiastic you are as you’re watching him play. It’s like you’re at a sporting event and you’re analyzing the plays as they happen. Thanks
I still remember Joe Robinson, watching him , he was just a kid back then , and he won Australia got talent 2008, he's grown so much ever since, I like his guitar playing.
Smokin' Joe Robinson won Australia's Got Talent. It's not often a 17 year old instrumentalist can achieve such a feat. At that time he played finger style ala Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel, using a thumb pick bass rhythm, and fingernails for melody. He's since perfected flat picking country, pop, rock, jazz and blues in a manner that you can only say... superhuman talent!
Joe Robinson is a truly gifted player. Both as a fingerstyle acoustic player and an electric player. A super tasteful and melodic player with chops for days when needed.
Been following Smokin' Joe Robinson for a couple years now. He is an incredible fingerstyle player., even took a couple of his Udemy fingerstyle courses. This is the best cover I've heard!!! Thanks for taking us through this Michael!!!
Michael, great to see you excited about this masterful performance. I found Joe about two months ago and can’t get enough. His Summertime is an amazing blend of acoustic and electric guitars. Such a talent and to see you analyze this song is great! Thanks! One last thing, could you take a look at Corey Heuvel’s Cemetery Gates by Pantera? You won’t be disappointed!
This guy is fantastic. Super well covered...its takes a lot to do this one as well as Clapton. That picking is super clean and tasteful. Not too much, not over the top but just smooth and well played
I’ve been following Joe for over 13 years now! Would highly recommend checking out his channel. He is fantastic player and composer. Has a great mix of acoustic & electric playing, originals and covers.
I’m not that great of a guitar player, so watching you be able to play pretty much anything by ear is very cool. I can only hope to be this good one day. Awesome!
I love your channel- would love to see you do a video of parkway drives new song darker still. They are an Australian metal band but this song is very different for them- it gives me chills the whole way through- a seriously brooding and melodic song 👍
Absolutely! And Joe's left hand dexterity is ridiculous. Nobody can question Michael's ear and music theory/knowledge or passion, but I wonder if Joe consciously thinks about the theory while he's playing? I know SRV spoke of playing for feel and going for what sounds good. He said when he got thinking about where he was on the neck -- that's when he'd get into trouble.
Never heard of this Joe but he's awesome and you are just as awesome for breaking this down. Outrageously fun to watch. Thank you so much. I gave up trying to play guitar after 35 years because I can spend my time watching musicians like you and others do this amazing stuff.
Been following Joe for years. His romps in New York jazz clubs when he was doubtfully old enough to drink are legendary. He just moved from Nashville to Montana where he is happily settled with his new wife. Although this is some smooth electric guitar work, he's one of the best acoustic finger stylists on the planet, a Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel protégé.
It’d be cool to see you also react to Jacob Martin, my favorite tune is called “Is D Standard Still Heavy in 2021?” He’s killer on the git-fiddle. Great videos man
Highly rated by the greatest of all - Tommy Emmanuel (fellow Aussie). And a really clear dissection of what he's doing as well. (Michael - you any relation to Sam Palmisano, former CEO of IBM?)
“Me on you” by Muscadine Bloodline. Please please please for the love of god take a look at it. I can not figure out the opening lick and there is no tutorials anywhere. It’s amazing….
Mike, you are awesome! I love your reactions! Would love it of you checked out a guitar player named Michael Kelsey and react to his song entitled Free!
Love you reactions to music!! You should check out the band (The Warning) These three young Sisters (Dani lead guitar, piano and lead locals) (Pau drummer, piano lead vocals) and (Ali Bass guitar, piano backing vocals). from Monterrey Mexico who are highly skilled with there instruments and vocal abilities shared between guitarist and drummer. In 2014 Thay got recognized on TH-cam doing a cover of Metallica's Enter Sandman that hit 24m views when thay were very young 10,12,14yrs old. About a year ago thay were invited by Metallica to do a new cover of the song on there 30th anniversary of the black album, (What A Accomplishment). Thay have put out a few albums since then are blowing are up the Rock seen!! Thay have open for huge bands like Def Leppard, the killers and were the last opening act for the Foo Fighters before the tragic loss of there drummer 😢. Thay are currently touring with HaleStar and pretty Reckless and just announced thay will be opening for Guns and Roses in South America. I think you have fun reaction to this video that was shot in two hours with 16 iPhone and one drone in Monterrey Mexico. (EVOLVE) th-cam.com/video/3_RB0tRI624/w-d-xo.html ( ENJOY 😉)
You always pause the video too much. You press pause like every three seconds it’s really annoying can you just like watch more of the video and then state your opinion rather than making this a whole stop and go process
He's analyzing the performance as a guitar player for guitar players, it's not just a reaction. Otherwise he wouldn't be playing along. May not be your cup of tea if you don't play, but if you do then maybe just listen and learn something.
Finally Joe is gaining recognition.
Joe won AGT at 16. Before his teens he was touring.
He's been playing with the best for a long time.

Great suggestion James!!

Joe has been one of my favorite players since I was a kid and he was on agt
Yes, Joe won that season's AGT. But, l thought his guitar idol is Tommy Emmanuel, his countryman.
So useful thanks Mike. Great analysis of Joe’s great ideas and playing.
Yeah... I saw him Friday night in San Francisco opening for Robben Ford. He is really good!
Michael, great to see you excited about this masterful performance. I found Joe about two months ago and can’t get enough. His Summertime is an amazing blend of acoustic and electric guitars. Such a talent and to see you analyze this song is great! Thanks!

Boy that at times sounded like a Frampton heavily influenced tone!
I’ve been following Joe for over 13 years now! Would highly recommend checking out his channel. He is fantastic player and composer. Has a great mix of acoustic & electric playing, originals and covers.
We love "our" Joe raised up river from me.
Nice cover!

The guy can listen to a cricket fart in a tin can and mimic it on any of his axes. Michael is a truly insanely gifted guitar player.
I love your channel- would love to see you do a video of parkway drives new song darker still. They are an Australian metal band but this song is very different for them- it gives me chills the whole way through- a seriously brooding and melodic song 👍
Joe’s friggin’ awesome 😎
His right hand is in beast mode!
I love Joe Robinson.
Smokin Joe is as smooth as a gravy sandwich.
Dirt Miller | SOMETIMES IT'S HARD. That GEM you're sometimes lucky to find...Joe Robinson, you're amazing, too ;)
You make it look easy!
Saw him open for Tommy Emmanuel a few years ago, I was instantly hooked
If you’re good enough to open for Tommy Emmanuel you must be great!
saw him live opening for tommy Emmanuel! unbelievable set
Never heard of this Joe but he's awesome and you are just as awesome for breaking this down. Outrageously fun to watch. Thank you so much. I gave up trying to play guitar after 35 years because I can spend my time watching musicians like you and others do this amazing stuff.

Wait until you hear joe do his Chet picking. He surely needs more recognition as a musician
"I put my hand in the wrong spot. You ever do that?" 😂 Nah bruh. Never done that before. 😂
It’d be cool to see you also react to Jacob Martin, my favorite tune is called “Is D Standard Still Heavy in 2021?” He’s killer on the git-fiddle. Great videos man
The word you were looking for.....counterpoint? Great video thank you.
Michael, I think you'd love Julian Lage's "Tributary" and I'd love to see your thoughts on the song and his playing!
Love this tone, what rig are you using?
This tone is why I keep a strat around.
whou perfect
Highly rated by the greatest of all - Tommy Emmanuel (fellow Aussie). And a really clear dissection of what he's doing as well. (Michael - you any relation to Sam Palmisano, former CEO of IBM?)

Joe Robinson is really making this song "His Song".

10 years late but love the vid
Break down some Ewan Dobson for us Mr. Mike. LOL
Whoever says guitar is dead is either not paying attention or not deserving of ears . . .
Serendipity-the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.
That D#.. to me is just the ninth of a C# minor scale
Where did his backing track come from? Did he make it?
TASH SULTANA (JUNGLE)
Agree…tasty. Love you, you old Parmesan cheese! Great channel.

@@notsogreatami9176, so would it be coetaneously LOL.
There's not one part of this reaction that let's the guitar play for more than 5-10 seconds lmao
Seems like in the first lick he drops from c#minor down into Bminor same shape. I wouldn't say it's a minor to major move
I wish you would of the explained the minor and major triads a little more clearly with an example!
Good video tho :)

Very slow for a song about Cocaine. 😂
One of my less liked joe covers actually, he has some beautiful stuff but the improv here feels like licks to me
You always pause the video too much. You press pause like every three seconds it’s really annoying can you just like watch more of the video and then state your opinion rather than making this a whole stop and go process
Contact Michael for a full refund of all the money you spent watching this. Also, you can watch Joe’s version straight through on his channel… 🙄
