Man... nobody had the personality, energy or the moves that Dizzy had. Cab Calloway was close. Love this find.

Out of all the years I have studied theater, in high school and college, which, by the way is NOT that long ago, I have never seen or heard of anything like this. Anything. I'm glad I quit. Cab Calloway, none of them. I really appreciate this.

It was fun to see Dizzy in a Big Band setting because he's mostly known for his small group performances. His Big Band only lasted about five years. This is fabulous documentation of that period. The picture quality may not be the best but it's still watchable.

I am so glad to have stumbled up on this Reelblack! I listened to all the r & b, jazz and big bands as a child growing up, as my dad played his large collection of music! I am a music lover, and only seeing the white films from Hollywood, it's wonderful to know there was also black cinema!!! I really enjoy the dance numbers, from myself being a tap dancer as a child, it's a joy to see such talent in our race, that was captured on film also! Thanks so much for sharing all of this black culture!! :-)

Please pardon the inflection in my sigh , but it's actually a sigh of utter elation.I mean, these gems should be more revered than what I'm viewing in the numbers.Dizzy Gillespie is reverenced as a God all around the Entire World. I said THE ENTIRE WORLD. You'll be hard pressed to find many of His Vintage Films, in pristine condition as they're Showcased here.Reel Black, not only is your Station a Vital edutainment channel, But ultimately it stands as a archivist platform. He tried to convince people that Bebop was danceable but he still failed. It was never meant to be danceable, it was musician's music, you're supposed to listen and concentrate on this music and get a dose of swing.

@@leetate1963 - Bleaching creams was around back then as well as today. My GrandMother used that shit back then. She stopped when she realized it was making her a little sick. Pictures of her when she was in her 20's-30's she was using skin bleach reveals that.
