    Bore scoring and IMS is scam!! Keep on driving nothing will happen up to 300k miles

    Great video. Like you I’m a dad in my 30s. Wanted a performance car and ideally to share the experience with the kids. Looked at the db9, mas gran turismo and 911 primarily. Kept coming back to the 911… it just felt much more like a sports car than the others. Bought a 997 c2s resprayed Miami blue with the engine recently rebuilt and 5k worth of other maintenance work. Not a cheaper end on but couldnt be happier with my decision. it’s a blast to drive. If you ever want to drive a standard one let me know. Thanks.

    The mechanical issues with the 997.1 have been blown completely out of proportion. From mid 2005 the IMS bearings issue was cured with a giant upgrade. As for bore scoring, there seems to be an issue on some early 997s, but you’re talking a few percent and the cost of fixing them with a complete engine rebuild is £12k, to put that into perspective that’s two clutch changes on a paddle shift Aston Vantage. So frankly the cost of ownership of a 911 over say 200,000 miles is likely to be a very low cost per mile. And that’s the rub, some of the issues with 911s arise because they are driven as god intended for hundreds of thousands of miles. Case in point is my friends 986 Boxster… the one with the exploding engine… bore scoring and an IMS… err well the engine was rebuilt at 140,000 miles and has now passed 190,000 miles. The only issue with these cars is the ones bought by people who can’t afford them and don’t do the basics of topping up the oil.

    • @pjay3028
      @pjay3028 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're absolutely right. People pay way more than £12k on rebuilds of their 964s and earlier 911s and they think nothing of it, because they paid £60k for it in the first place. Yet ironically, the same potential maintenance cost is holding values of 996s and 997s back. It just doesn't make sense!

    How comfortable was your daughter in the back. She looks quite close to the drivers seat but that might just be the camera angle. Apparently the cheap Halfords car seat fits perfect and is what most people use on the 996/7

    As a new dad who had to sell his f-type r for a new f-pace svr, I have a 992 gts coupe and Roma on order (whatever gets a build date first in this crazy car world), would appreciate your thoughts on fitting baby seats in those - also our market requires a top tether so might be worth including that in future videos. Thanks for putting these videos together, much appreciated

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the floor leg does the same job doesn’t it? To be fair I’ve never seen a top tether used in the UK, where are you located? I just did a 991.2 but look forward to doing a 992 and a Roma is certainly on the bucket list 👏

    • @samcas707
      @samcas707 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dadcars I just saw the 991, should be similar to 992 as it’s on the same chassis. Top tether is a legal requirement for us in Australia - so for the 992 for eg only the coupe has the tether, which luckily works for me as in our market only way I can get a 3 pedal 911 is a rwd gts coupe…. though with all the production delays I’m chasing time before the full hybrid auto .2 line up. Also worth noting, we have some strict laws around baby seats, so none of the factory accessory seats pass our regs, and definitely none of the slimmer styles you can buy in EU/US

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samcas707 that’s fascinating to hear it’s so strict in Australia. I’ll look into the tether and mention it in one of my future reviews. Appreciate this info. That’ll be a awesome 992 when it arrives, you’ll have to join the DadCars Facebook group and post a picture :)

    You can remove the seat bases on the 997 which might create a slight increase in space for a rear facing seat and fitting seat inserts might be easier.

    • @dadcars
