I manage to bring down my BP from 165 to 145 (sometimes 135) in 1.5 years by:
    1) Exercising for at least 45 minutes everyday, 6 days a week.
    2) Reducing alcohol intake to a can of beer a month, or none at all.
    3) Drinking 400g of unfiltered celery blend to substitute dinner everyday.
    4) Cutting down coffee drinking from a cup daily to alternate daily.
I believe I'm heading towards a normalised BP in another year if I'm persistent with the above tasks. My BMI is 25 and, I don't smoke.

I exercised regularly, didn't drink or smoke, but my BP always hovered around 140-145/80-85. Two and a half years ago I went on intermittent fasting (8 hrs/16 hrs.) and added potassium to my diet in the form of 1 full teaspoon of NoSalt potassium chloride every day. Within a couple of months my BP went to the neighborhood of 100-120/60-65 and has stayed there. I take out 15 minutes every morning and take 3 BP readings at 2 minute intervals which my machine averages. This morning I was 107/64 average for the three readings. Not bad for a 73 year old guy!

I was on BP lowering medicine for years until being diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic. That scared me. High blood pressure was normal in my family and, I thought, normal as you age. I researched T2D and was astounded to find it was 100% diet induced and fully reversible. Within two weeks I was off the Metformin and insulin, and Surprise! Surprise! I had to stop taking my BP meds. I asked my doctor about why he never told me about this, he said it takes so much exercise to overcome the high sugar diet. I told him no, you stop eating the sugar and carbs. What an idiot. He's not my doctor anymore.
My one and only visit with the Dietician was a train wreck. Totally wrong info. Everything she told me to do would have made me worse. Chronic and progressive, just like my doctor told me when diagnosed.
In conclusion, DO NOT TRUST YOUR DOCTOR! Check things out yourself. Do your own research. Figure things out for yourself.
Unfortunately, we need doctors to get prescription medications and have certain tests done. But you use the info. The doctor's solution is drugs or surgery. Neither of which heal you.

I got into keto because of high blood pressure. Keto did wonders for me. 54 and no meds. Feel and look great. However on this journey of keto I ran into trouble . I was not eating junk foods and such that was loaded with salt. I was not getting really any salt on keto. Fresh veggies and Whole Foods was great . But I was not used to using a salt shaker. I became very defiant. I was told not to for years. More bad advice from my doctor. So now I use salt again . This keto and fasting is great! It’s the best news I seen in all my life. It should be called the ‘blood pressure conundrum’ Again we are being hit over the head with the number 120/80 and our absolute need to conform. Nothing in life is that simple. I can’t change my age or ethnicity nor undo years of poor diet and medical misdiagnosis. As you have rightfully pointed out in your videos we need to reduce stress and inflammation. These two factors we have absolute control over. Another helpful video. Thanks!

In recent years, I switched to tea, because I discovered how much I love it. In either case, I have always found the ritual of preparing/enjoying coffee or tea to be relaxing and comforting. Dr Ekberg, I am from India and I started watching your videos by chance on youtube. I was a boderline diabetic for quite sometime and my BP was also on the rise. With age progressing, I was naturally worried about my health. I work in an IT company, which can become stressful at times. All in all, I was in a bit of bother. After watching your videos, I realized that both the situations are indeed related to the same root cause, and that is Insulin resistance. I stated lowering my card intake and increased my proteins and fats intake in my diet. It may not be the ideal keto diet yet, but I can see some results already. But, when I mention my diet changes to my friends and family here in India, they say that keto diet is not suitable for us Indians. Please advise.

A very sensible, concise and yet comprehensive presentation. However the BP situation may be more complex. A friend of mine is both sedentary, obese and diabetic and yet has enviably healthy BP. All the nurses are jealous ;). - There seems to be a paradoxical relationship between increasing age and increasing physiological stress. Older people try hard not to stress themselves, walk, do yoga or xercise classes and limit salt and alcohol and yet feel more stressed and have higher BP. In their situation some type of medication may be inevitable. This needs to be understood.

When I was Hypertensive Crisis 180/160, I took 500mg of Resveratrol, which is a concentrated form of the stuff in red wine, and my BP dropped immediately to 160/140. That took me out of crisis and helped keep it lower as I lost weight. I stayed using it while I started Keto and IF. The BP was dropping in concert with my weight and visceral fat percentage. I'm now using Resveratrol 250mg as a maintenance. Also, with high BP, the Insulin Resistance helps to damage the eye, as my ocular pressure was very high. Now it's normal and the floaters are all removed.
Thank you for mentioning the sodium issue and the misperceptions. We only use Iodized salt when cooking and iodine is a critical element, much like potassium and is extremely important for pregnant women and young children for brain development. My daughters have POTS syndrome and they can get lightheaded and pass out because they don't have enough blood volume. They need to take salty foods and drink water. Fludrocortisone 0.1mg is prescribed for two of the three. Also, BP can be high if you are dehydrated. The key to taking effective blood pressure tests is to create a consistent test environment, where you are not over hydrated or under hydrated. It's best to drink a glass and a half of water 20 minutes before taking a BP test. Cuff BP meters are far more accurate than wrist ones.

A bit confused about your explanation of the effects of exercise on the frontal lobes. Mayo Clinic says that exercise works to lower BP because it strengthens your heart and makes it easier to for the heart to pump, resulting in less strain on the entire cardiovascular system, and also helps to lose weight and maintain lower weight. I saw NO reference to action on the frontal lobes. However, there is some other literature about the effects of exercise on the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which suggests that exercise is neuroprotective under stressful conditions by promoting inhibition of cognitive interference on certain tasks as measured by the Stroop Test, but no mention of any effects on BP. You should provide your sources for statements like that.

I recently read an amazing book called "The Salt Fix." It blows my mind that mainstream doctors still recommend a low salt diet for the majority of people. I got diagnosed with hypertension and my doc gave me a diuretic and told me to limit salt intake. I had horrible side effects from the medication, and the low salt diet caused brain fog, muscle weakness, and fatigue.
In the book I learned that healthy kidneys can remove up to 45 grams of salt per day. For comparison, the "experts" recommend limiting salt intake to less than 2 grams per day. Our bodies have five different systems for handling excess salt, but ZERO systems to handle long-term salt deficiency.
I've recently begun intermittent fasting, low carb diet, and diatomaceous earth to help lower my blood pressure naturally. Wish me luck!
